I am searching for information on a James F. Crane born Abt. 1832 in New York. James was in the 5th NY Heavy Artillery during the Civil War. My purpose in researching Mr. Crane is that he is buried in a Cemetery that I am a trustee of. He has no headstone. He was a friend of my Gr. Grandparents here in the state of Washington and boarded with them. In the 1910 Census it says Widowed. In my Gr. Grandmothers Diary she called him Capt. Crane. I am a member of our Genealogical Society here in Washington state and we would like to apply for a Civil War Headstone for his gravesite. First I must prove that this James Crane is the same as the Capt. James F. Crane.... any help or ideas would be appreciated.
