I am well acquainted with Marion Crawford aka kit# 112747 as he and I are 2nd cousins and I was instrumental in having him tested. That being said, neither he nor I KNOW who the father was of our ancestor, JAMES Crawford (1758-1836) whose spouse was Sarah Vansandt.

Are you suggesting that you have PROOF that my James Crawford's line is from Old John Crawford who settled in Botetourt about 1740? Odd, then, that Marion Crawford's DNA results do NOT match with 2 other DNA participants that are linked to Old John.

I recall in an exchange on this list in 2006 you declared my James as son of John who died and left a will in Botetourt in 1796. My reason for refuting THAT was that son James who executed the division of John's land in 1797 to John's brother William (per directive of John's 1796 will) is noted in the deed as being "of Botetourt County State of Virginia" and my James (1758-1836) had been a resident of Fleming Co., Ky since 1795. I have seen documents executed in one county by a person of another county and it states the county they reside in.

I would urge you to carefully reexamine your conclusions and keep in mind that there were numerous James Crawfords in Botetourt (as there were Johns, Williams & Andrews) and 'same names' alone do not constitute proof of relationships.

Conversely, if you DO know of a document (or documents) that resolve and differentiate to a degree of certainty my James Crawford's ancestry, I, and others, would welcome the opportunity to examine the information.
