I descend from Joshua Scott who married Savonia H. Creasy (her name has been the subject of much research--but it is NOT Savannah as I once thought.Their daughter Irene Weatherford Scott married James T. Updike. Their son, Edison Updike, was my grandfather. Some published research, including Robert Craig's Updike/Updyke of Virginia, has Savonia's name as Lavonia, but I havent see that spelling in primary sources. Joshua died before the 1950 census of Pittsylvania Co, Va where they lived.

One interesting note for Scott researchers: John Scott came to Bedford Co from Halifax Co and paid 15,000 for Fancy Farm from Pascal Buford. He must have made his fortune or inherited it before coming to Bedford. He apparently did not remain wealthy; he didnt keep Fancy Farm very long.
