Randy, hope you will get this. I am curious about John Creath, b 25 DEC 1780 Antrim, Ireland. His son, Thomas, born 1814 in Antrim, married Sarah Tucker of Lubec, Maine, USA;
Their son John Robert Creath b. 22 Dec 1854 married Carrie Scovill(e) (Scofield)? and their son was Jerome Brawn Creath, b 12 Aug 1894 in Lubec, Maine. Jerome married Christine Libby b 08 Jul 1897. They had a daughter Lois Emma Creath, b. 27 Nov 1924 who married Wilfred Russell Cline b 17 may 1923. Their daughter is me. Christine Ann Cline b 01 Dec 1950.
That is as far as I can get. Do you know where this line of Creaths might have entered the US? Anything beyond what I have? Glad to share anything else.

I am a direct descendant of one Charles Frederick Creath date and place of birth unknown.
Charles was a seaman and at some time (defintely in 1846)worked as a sailmaker with the East India Company.
He was married to Eliza Burr (my great-great-grandmother born 16th October 1817, christened 9th November 1817 in St. Matthews Parish Church, Bethnal Green, London, England)on 10th June 1833 in the Church of St. John Hackney, London, England.
Charles and Eliza had three children: Eliza Jane (my great-grandmother) born 4th August 1837 in Poplar, London, Charles Frederick (junior)born 14th March 1846 in Poplar, London (died 30th June 1850) and Alice Jesse born about 1848 on board ship from Calcutta.
I don't know when Charles died but it was before his wife Eliza who died 25th January 1870 in Poplar Workhouse.
I'd be grateful for any information regarding Charles.
Erica

A patorn left a folder with me and I promised to try to find a direct descendant of the above couple.
The folder contains original pages of a family bible, containing only the marriage of the Creaths, above, April 9th 1854, their births and the births of their five children.
Other items: a photo, taken at a shop in Cantrel, Iowa, not identified; a scrap of paper from Milton, with a recipe/prescription containing 8 oz. of alcohol; an answer from THE REPUBLICAN in Keosauqua for a subscription price; a swatch of lace, 2 small pieces of fabric and a couple of small patterns cut from a newspaper; a subpoena for Eliza to appear in the Van Buren County Court for Lucy Creath vs Mattie Wolf; a receipt for a claim to estate of ?Darkes Sparks; a tied sample of hair and a letter from K. T. Powell. The letter is very faded, perhaps written in pencil, but darkened copy could be made.
I have quite a bit on the Libby's, Creaths, and all those associated with them. Since then you have lost your mother, I'm sorry. I wrote Cindy but we've lost touch. I live in Florida full time but will be in Maine later in May. Where are you?
Christy

Thank You, This reinforces the information I have. do you know to whom the Bible belonged? Did it perhaps belong to Lusetta and James anderson Creath. I am directly descended form James Crawford Creath, who married Sarah Matilda Downey in Cumberland Co., Il. Noting you are connected to the Patricks, I wonder if the Bible belonged to Lusetta as she lived with her daughter,I believe in Cumberland Co. and is buried in Hazel Dell Cemetery, in Illinois.

My husband's ancestor was Sarah Creath, daughter of George Creath and his first wife, Isabella (or so I have read an account of this in a Texas history book). Sarah was from Jackson Co. Ill and came to Texas with her husband John McSherry. She had a brother, named George that we know of for sure. Does you know anything about her parents?

I am trying to find information on Margaret "Maggie" Creath, arrested in 1861 as a Rebel during the Civil War and later banished from the state. She was related to Elder Jacob Creath (Sr or Jr?) of Monroe (and other counties!) in Missouri.

I am not a Creath family researcher but would appreciate any information on Margaret or this family. I am willing to exchange this interesting story!

Best regards, Lisa Perry
lpperry@comcast.net

My family was living in Granite City Illinois ,which bordersSt. Louis Mo.My father went over to the riverboatfor a night out . There was an African American Jazz musician (trumpet player)and his name was Charlie Creath. My dad thought he knew every Creath in the area (there wasnt many). He went up to him after the music and said something like"Charlie Creath I'd like to shake your hand,My name is Elmer Creath." Dad said they talked a little but never did piece the puzzle together.I have tried to get a line on him since then ,I have found out he was named along with the greats of jazz.I just read an article that put him alongside Miles Davis in talent .Maybe you are too young to know Miles Davis but he was also famous.Anyway I thought that might be of interest to others Creaths too. I like the personal stories, as your army texas story was. Esther

Hi Sheree,
I too love the Creath name. It is so unusual.I had read somewhere on here that some people named there kids after a Jacob Creath who was a minister in the early 1800's. I am certain like the rest, that none of our clan was rich enough to own a plantation, but we did have a lot of preachers in the family.I am very interested in your story as I am in all the Creath stories.I will tell you one the next time I write .I have been on here quite a while already.
Always knew growing up that I had a special name. It was and still is like no other. Do you know of anyone who has research the name itself...I've never been able to find it in any of the books of Names. The closest was Creech. I have to admit, I love it...I love the name Creath. It's a very special name to me. Okay, enough being sappy, gotta get back to work...have a great day!
p.s. I will keep my ears to the ground for more information

I not sure what I did incorrectly but I know you only received a Hey. Sorry about that! I just remembered there is a Creath, Texas. Near Waco. You can find it on the computer but it is really just a house left now as I understand it. You might find something about their ancestors as there are still Creath descendents there. Go to the Gen Forum Board and you will get a lot of info. Love Leona

Sheree, I don't know how to get list of plantation owners and I do think there must be a place to find this. I still think maybe you are truly descended from a Creath and not the plantation thing for the Creaths were not rich people as far as I can tell. I know there are Creaths in Texas and also in the regions of Mississippi and Alabama. They migrated there after leaving the Indiana and Ohio areas. I sure, in my heart believe youare truly a Creath and not a name taken at the end of the Civil war but I have not proof but will do my best to try to help you. Leona
Let me know i just wish I could help Sheree. If I keep thikking maybe I will come up with something for i am sure the 2 Creath Brothers came to Nova Scotia and then to the States . They were in Nova Scotia during Rev. War. and then came to Us and on down through the Va to Ky trail and then Ohio and Indiana and also points farther south as time progressed.

Thank you very much for responding. I remember being in the emergency room one day, I was in the Army and stationed in Texas. I heard a doctor call out "Creath". I was accustommed to be address by my last name and answered back. But he did that to let me know that his last name was Creath. Imagine his suprise as well as mine. It's not the most popular name. Kind of like my first name, I don't know too many Sherees', especially spelled the way mine is....anyhoo, he told me that his family originated from Minnesota and that the name was dutch.?? I do know that my dad said that B.B.King, the blues guitar player came from the same plantation in Mississippi as my grandfather, A Z Creath, but I will have to dig a little further. You wouldn't by chance know how to get a record of plantation owners from the late 1800s into the 19's, would you?
Take care and God Bless.

I would have to agree that the Creath line came from poor backgrounds and I don't know of any today that have tremendous wealth! I have my origins back in Ireland and England but not Africa. I don't know any African American Creaths either. My ancestors came in through Canada as best I can determine. I'm still in the research stages but don't believe that any of my family ever ventured further south than Pennsylvania. Good luck in your search. I know it's frustrating with many dead ends.
Sorry I couldn't help you out. There's always room for one more in the family!

Sheree, I am sorry I cannot help you but I have had this situation before with 2 other family groups I have been working on. we are glad you are a Creath and we care not the color of your skinl. I do understand this is not a common name for an African-American. I really didn't think any of the Creaths had enough money to own slaves and I think that is may be the reason you're a Creath. Why don't you go to all the boards and post your problem. II sure understand your wanting to know your family history. that is what we are all doing. I will try to find some information for you. I am african american and I am aware that both my grand and greatgrandfathers came from the same plantation...seeing how it is rare to have someone of my race with this last name, there has to be more to the story, of which I would like some insight. If you have any information or can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly, greatly appreciated. thank you.

Jacob is not my direct line. I believe he is the son of Samuel Creath, who along with his wife and baby son, William landed in Nova Scotia. My line is Samuel's brother William and on to his son, Robert, then James Anderson Creath, James Crawford Creath, Elmer Creath, Leroy Creath, Leona Creath Muessman. Would love any info you have and am willing to share. Not having dates, I can't be sure but I would say that your George Creath was a brother to my Robert hence descended from the same line.

Marge, I'm not doing much right now with my family history but plan to begin again in the fall. I'll keep your notes and get back to you then.
My husband is retiring and we are relocating so I don't have the time. Thanks for your info. I'll be in touch.
Chris
The name "Creath' is recurring over and over again in my Robinson Family. It began when my gggg grandfather, Benjamin named one of his sons Jacob Creath after a Reverend Creath that came to Kentucky with him and his family. The Rev. Creath and Benjamin Robinson were both from Spotsylvania, VA. Apparently, Benjamin thought an awful lot of Rev. Creath. The name "Creath" was then passed down to each succeeding generation until my Great Aunt Mamie "Creath" Robinson. If you have any idea where your distant relative Creath settled in Virginia, we might have a match. Would love to hear from you.
