I am a descendant through Mary Ann Crecelius who married Peter Walters and lived in Washington Co, Tenn. I have some papers showing the ancestors back to the Krekle spelling of the name. I would love to be able to see your books. Is there some way to see them through Libraries, etc? Does anyone know if there are any Crecelius reunions anywhere?
contact me at
orateague44@comcast.net

Wow, I can't believe you replied! Well, I'm Wally's second oldest grandchild, first Boy. I have two sisters, who are fraternal twins, they are two years younger than me, Jamie Lee and Jessica Lynn. Also I have One brother who is five years younger, Charles Monroe. We were brought-up in the mormon religion, recently I stumbled across some astrology stuff, I was intrigued, I've been reading more and more, what I thought I believed is starting to fade into endless questions. When I was a young kid my mom had the Coulter clan book, she was borrowing from my Grampa, since he passed I'm not too sure what happened to it, is there a way to get hold of another? I would like to get to know you and perhaps other relatives.
there's a little more about me, I look forward to hearing from you, thank you so much for, EXISTING.
-Jake Tucker

Hi Cousin Jacob!
Delighted to hear from you!
The Jacob Crecelius who married Christena Lewis is NOT your direct ancestor. That one is a distant uncle of ours.
YOUR Jacob Lewis Crecelius (1858-1934) was a son of George Crecelius & Elizabeth Keller (my great-grandparents).
I believe Jacob was named after two uncles: Elizabeth's brother, Rev. Jacob Keller, and Jacob Louis Bottles, husband of Elizabeth's sister, Eliza Keller. Both of the older Jacobs served in the Civil War (on the Union side).

Do you have access to my 1970 book, OUR COULTER CLAN & ALLIED FAMILIES? I know your great-grandmother Alcinda had a copy. I enjoyed corresponding with her in the 1970s.
Your mother is listed on page 166. Page 147 shows an 1895 photo of your Jacob Lewis Crecelius, his wife Laura, and their first three children: Roy, Gertie, and Hiram the baby. Photos of Jake's father George are on pages 146 (with his bachelor brother Adam Crecelius, a Civil War veteran), page 147 (four generations of which he's the eldest), and 148 (the long-widowed George with five of his children: Will, Al, and Charles, Etta, and May). The Crecelius plot marker in Conrad Cemetery, Conrad, Iowa, is shown on page 148. A long 1970 letter from your great-grandmother Alcinda is on pages 165-166.

In 2001, I updated the descendants of George & Elizabeth Keller Crecelius, but your grandfather Wally never answered my letters asking for an update of his branch. So whatever you can tell me about you and your siblings would be much appreciated. Your great-grandfather Hiram had a bachelor older brother, Roy Elsworth Crecelius (1891-1971); so being unmarried runs in the family (reference Uncle Adam Crecelius above)! Hiram's sister Gertie Crecelius never married either. Nor did Hiram's nephew, John Walter Whitlow.

I've just listed your great-great-grandfather Jacob Lewis Crecelius on findagrave.com:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=47...

I do not know which of the cemeteries in Miller, SD, he rests in; so please let me know if I chose the wrong one!
Thanks!
From Jacob's listing, you can click on links to his siblings, their parents and grandparents, etc. Maybe you would like to list your grandfather Wally on findagrave? It's free and easy.

Send me your questions, and I will try to help.
steven coulter
1058-56th st
des moines, IA 50311-2246
515-255-1903
RSVPR@aol.com
P.S. My home computer died last year and I haven't replaced it. I try to visit the public library to check my emails. But I also work 10-hour shifts on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, so it will probably be Tuesday before I can get to a computer again to reply.
Take care, and tell me about yourself!
Hey, My name is Jacob Lewis Tucker. When I was born my parents were not together, my Grampa Wally (Walter Lewis Crecelius) named me after his grandfather, Jacob Lewis Crecelius. My parents were later married and I proudly wear my father's name. My Grampa Wally didn't tell me much about my great, great grandfather Jacob. I am 28 years old, I have no children, un-married, I'm beginning to question my purpose, what's it all for? I don't expect any answers. I would like to know what type of man Jacob Lewis Crecelius was, what kind of impact did he have? What was his relationship like with his son? My Mother is Denise Lanay, Hi Aunt Kim! I Love You

Did you ever solve this puzzle? I am a long time Froman researcher and just came across your query, but I can't find an immediate answer to it in my file. Jacob Froman of Crawford Co had a dau named Nancy, born 1808, who married Thomas Robertson in 1829, but I don't see how that would answer this puzzle. What I can't find is a male Froman with a wife named Nancy who could have fathered Margaret in 1824 in Floyd Co Indiana where it says Margaret was born in the 1850 census.

WoW! Impressive. Where can I find documentation about Otto's arrival in US? What ship did he come to America on & when? What is his pattern of migration (in which years did he live in which states/counties?) More details please as I'd love to know how we got from Krekel to Crecelius -- so in Germany we were known as Krekel -- but when he came to America- he was entered as "Crecelius". I've just never been able to trace an ancestor that far back & was wondering how you can prove it. My daughter does 4-H genealogy and they ask for documentation, so I'm wondering how to go about getting the documentation for her to put in her book. I'm not doubting you - just wanting to create the paper trail necessary for her project. Thanks!

Help w/ Nancy Crecelius [MN], b.1808 in KY?

Nancy Crecelius, age 72, widow, b.in KY is listed in the 1880 Crawford Co, IL census as Mother with the Wiley Morris Pleasant and Margaret (assumed Frohman/Froman) family. Nancy is definitely not Wiley's mother, so we would assume that this is, perhaps, Margaret's mom. Margaret was allegedly born 1822/23 in Indiana and married Wiley in 1843 in Orange Co, IN, moving from Crawford Co, IN to Meade Co, KY and then to Crawford Co, IL.

We'd REALLY like to find Margaret's parents and this is our best lead. Can anyone help?? This family can be viewed online at:

http://myarnolds.com/family.php?famid=F17017&ged=Arnold....
-thanks in advance, Stephen

I have learned of your interest in the Nancy M. J. Crecelius who married Felix G. Noble. I had all of the same information in my computer base except that I show Althea married to Jess Bartles (Bottles) son of William Bottles. I have done a genealogy book on the descendants of Henry Cline Crecelius of Meade Co., KY and I sent a copy of it to the Mormon Library in Jan 1999. I did a companion book on the Bottles family since there seemed to be so many of them that intermarried with the Crecelius family. At this time we do not know if they came from Germany at the same time as Otto Rudoph (Grandfather of Henry Cline) but very early on Henry Bottles (great grandfather of Jess) married Otto Rudolph's daughter, Maria Elizabeth.
Robert Crecelius

Maria Barbara Crecelius

I'm hoping that someone familiar with Crecelius family history in Harrison Co. might know on what basis Barbara (Kindle) Harmon has been identified as Maria Barbara Crecelius. I have searched all the microfilmed marriage records for both Washington and Greene Cos. in Tennessee, and found nothing - no record of any marriage for either her or her husbands, George Kindle and Joseph Harmon.

I've had to rely on secondary sources: a family group sheet from the Corydon Public Library (compiled by Carol Y. Miller before 1980) and two on-line genealogies. There is also circumstantial evidence - the John Crecelius letter about the drowning of Barbara's son, William Kindle, in 1829, and the fact that Barbara lived near various Creceliuses - in both TN and IN - over a period of 40 years. But I'd love to know if there is anything more definite out there, or at least who originally identified her with the Crecelius family and on what basis.

I'm also curious as to what became of her sisters Catharine (Catharina Barbara) and Margaret, who were alive in 1787 when Otto Rudolph made his will, but "disappear" afterward. (There are no Tennessee marriage records for them, either.)

I'd be very grateful for any information/suggestions.

Hello, I ran across Rudolph's will in 1787 while looking for Philip Asmus in Washington County N.C. (Tennessee). I have typed it out, but I'm sure you have a copy. Do you know why Philip Assimus (Ausmus)would be associated with the Crecelius Family?

By the way, I have only found one sites on the internet that has early Rockingham tax lists. Do a search for the name in quotes "Peter Nasmus" and you will find one of them. The best source for Rockingham is from Lyman Chalkley. Do a search for him and you will get a lot of court records for Augusta and Rockingham.

I believe you have confused John Tye born about 1737 with his father, also John Tye, born about 1717 in Baltimore Co., MD; died 1747 in Baltimore, MD. The younger John would have been only about ten or eleven years old when Mary Ann Tye who married about 1770 to David Wilson was born about 1748. David & Mary's daughter Diana Wilson Crecelius (1792-1848) was my great-great-grandmother.
steven coulter, RSVPR@aol.com

Wendy,
I think I have sent you a previous email about the reunion, if not... July 28th we will be having the 54th Crecelius Reunion at the Nazarene Church. On Saturday we will visit cemeteries, and New Amsterdam will be one of them. Claude and Fama lived in New Amsterdam and I can show you the house. We will also have information on your Crecelius ancestors. Hope you can make it. You can contact me directly at my email address for further details.
Charlotte
