VIRGINIA NORTHERN NECK LAND GRANTS, Vol. 2 1742-1775, compiled by Gertrude E. Gray.......Book H...The following Deeds (381-397) were for lots in Winchester Town. Deeds give the Grantee, place of residence if shown, lot numbers & date of Grant. Town lots were 1/2 acre and Common lots were 5 acres unless otherwise noted. All town surveys were made by Mr. John Baylis. Conditions set down by Fairfax for Town of Winchester: Town Lot dwelling house shall be no less than Sixteen by Twenty Feet with Chimney of Brick or stone. Grantee shall not Erect or Build any buildings of any Kind of Commons Lot nor permit Commons Lot to be Separated from Town Lot but must remain part of parcel forever.

Note - Frederick County created 1738-43 from Orange & Augusta Counties.
