Classification: Death
Appears in the Terrell Times-Star, Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas, 1 November 1890...
New York, October 27 - J. R. Creighton of the banking firm of J. R. Creighton & Co. was found dead in his office at 72 Broadway this morning by the janitor.
The dead man lay on a sofa and a revolver with one empty chamber was at this side. On a table lay several sealed letters addressed to his wife, Mrs. Sarah Creighton; his partner and one letter was addressed "to whom it may concern" and read as follows:
"I have fought hard the business battle, have made a square fight, but have lost. My brain has given away, and now my body mus go. Please break the news gently to my wife."
George Crosby, Mr. Creighton's cashier, soon arrived and said "I left him at the office yesterday afternoon happy and have never seen anything in his conduct to indicate that he was low spirited. So far as I know his accounts are all right and he has had no financial trouble I think."
