I'm looking for any information about my great-grandmother, Sally Crews.

She died in Palatka, Florida (I think) in May of 1964. She was a native of Florida, but also lived in Brunswick, GA. Her funeral was held at the Pentacostal Holiness Church in Brunswick with the Rev Wheatley officiating. She was burried in the Chapel Crossing Cemetary in GA.

I know she had 4 sisters, but not their names. She was survived by her children: Chattey Wilkinson Green, Sarah Tyson, Nettie Rozier, Mrs. John L Collins, Robert Coy Crews, SL Crews, H Ray Crews, and Billy Blair.

I need to find her husband's name, marriage date, her parents names (maiden name)and any information on the 4 sisters, grand and great grand children.

given name Llewellyn

Is this a recognised ancestral name in the CREWS family and if so where might it originate?

There may not be a single common theme: I have CREWS in my UK ancestry, most recently my 2xg grandmother Mary CREWS (1810-1905) who wed a BICKFORD. Both families have history in Devon England. One of her grand-sons was a Llewellyn BICKFORD (1861-1931) and I have been curious about this forename for some time. I have found no trace of Llewelyn in the BICKFORD line so perhaps it comes from CREWS.

I am a rank beginner at this but hope someone can help. My husband,Jondon LLewellyn Shilg,is the son of Magaret Hope Crews and William Merritt Shilg. He was born in Louisiana in 1938; Margaret left when he was about 2 and lived in the Los Angles area. What I hope for is to hear from any of Margaret's children or grandchildren who might be able to answer some questions about her, her illness, if she had one that could be genetic, or anything that might be of interest to her grandson. Jondon's mother was born in Ohio, her parents were Margaret Gere Crouch and Llewellyn Pettitt Crews.

I have probably seen you at the reunions! I've been attending off and on since the 1980s. My grandfather was Hobert Riley Crewse and his father was William Edward Paul Crewse. We voted this past year to start having the reunions on Saturday at a new location. You'd have to message Jack to get the details. If the Blackwell/Crewse/Ragain lines are anything like the Hutsell/Crewse lines, I wish you luck!!
Traci Crewse Bohannon

I was able to locate our family tree online for free made by one of our cousins who did our family tree for a project in school, but I have since lost it and cannot relocated, I believe I originally found it under Eva Elizabeth Ledbetter Crews, but I cannot locate it now. Do you have access to our history? Please contact me at flipperlover64@yahoo.com, this is Elizabeth Jane Crews Loper daughter of Hardie and Hope Crews. Thanks

Thanks for your reply. Yes I have several of the "Crewse Of The Ozarks" books and have been in touch with the author Jack Crewse for years. I have been to two of the Crewse Reunions one about 1980 and one in the late 1990's. You can look for me under Carolyn Ann Phillips. My father was V.L. Phillips, grand-mother was Nancy Arilda Crewse and Great grandfather John William Grant Crewse. Have been trying to sort out all the Blackwell, Crewse and Ragain inter marriages for years. Found a 4th cousin-in the Ragain line living about 10 miles from me.

John William Grant Crewse was my grandfather's first cousin. Do you have the book CREWSE OF THE OZARKS by Jack Crewse? It contains lots of family pictures, including photos of John William Grant and his family and also one taken from a tyntype of his father, George Nathaniel Crewse. It also has some very interesting information about what happened to John William Grant and his brother, James Monroe Crewse after they were orphaned as young boys.

Our Fleming Jordan Crews from Georgia/McGirk was descended from a mothr or grandmothr whose maiden name was Jordan. I'd have to look it up and am not at home right now. She had two brothers, one was Reuben (Jordan) and the other was Fleming (Jordan)..so she and our Crews gr-grandfather named two of their sons Reuben Jordan Crews, and Fleming Jordan Crews.....those names got carried down from her and from her brothers. I think Fleming was a sir-name further up the line....

Leonidas Crews was my grandfather's brother. (mother referred to him as "Uncle Lonnie." My grandfather was Fleming Jordan (pronounced "Jerden") Crews, who lived in McGirk Community and is buried there, near Hamilton. He and Leonidas came to Texas after the civil war with their bachelor uncle, Martin Mortinmer Crews, who is buried in Hamilton. I have copies of Martin's will. I'll have to get out my family tree records before I can tell you more. My sister and I spent a lot of time tracing family before she passed away...but it has been awhile since I looked at those papers.

Her Husband Richmond Sydnor was owned by Giles and Rebecca Pleasant Sydnor of Halifax county VIrginia.I dont find her after the 1900 census but I find Richmond on the 1910 and he states he is widowed so she died between 1900-1910, no death record I can find. The children of Mary Crews and Richmond are Giles,Phil,Signora,Beck(nanie),Emma, home,Jim,Henry,William and Robert. thank you again . Marla

I would appreciate any documentation that anybody is willing to share on the Crews family.
I am descended from Lydia Bea Crews (Daughter of DD Sr. & Piety Collier) and her husband Thomas Guilford Hair who also served in the 2nd Florida Cavalry as did DD Jr.
My current project is writing a story based on my Hair/Hare family line, which I have traced from my grandmother in Florida back thru colonial N.Carolina and I would like to be able to provide an accurate summary of the Crews family line in the corresponding chapter.

my e-mail is ConklinRodneyA@gmail.com

**I saw on a recent post that the Crews family came through North Carolina, any info on where in NC the Crews family came from would be helpful as I recently gained access to a large collection of colonial records here. I will gladly reciprocate any info I find.

Good morning! I received a note recently from Irvin Crews. I am in the Isham (1852) line (Ware County). The references to "Crewsville" sound familiar, but, my Crews clan has not had contact with John Barney Crews line, brother of James Barton Crews...for generations. Both sons of Isham Crews and Kessiah "Kizzie" Johns....Ware County/SE Georgia.

Crews, James Stanley Jr (Ancestry Tree)

Anyone reading this in the John Barney line; would love more family history ..

Thanks,
James Stanely Crews, Jr. (Jim)
JimCrews@att.net

Luther and Caddie were my Great Grandparents. Audrey is my Grandmother. She is still living, she is the youngest. If anyone has any pictures or stories of Dempsey, Luther, Caddie, Roy, Buster, etc. Please let me know. A Good picture of John Collier can be found very easily on line. Would like to locate as many photagraphs and sketches as I can. I have two sons who love our proud heritage. My email is gatorconley2000@yahoo.com . I am a soldier stationed at Fort Bragg, NC.

I just found a very detailed genealogy of the Crew family in Charles City Co., VA. You can find it at the link below. Some of the people are the same, but dates and marriages and kids are completely different. Oh how I love it when it becomes more complicated!

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/m/i/Paulette-M-...
