I was recently at the OCGS going through their records and I saw a file from Helen Predmore and a page from Elizabeth Crissey-VanDuzer's Bible link Stephen Crissey as a son of Ebenezer Crissey and Sarah Smith.

I'm trying to find any kind of birth/death/marriage/will/deed records that would confirm this connection.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide,
Ed

Hello,
Yes I am still very interested in Juhn Crissey, he was my gr-gr grandfather. I have been in touch with, I believe, your uncle Ron. I looks like, from some of the pictures you have, that you have been in contact with him as well. I am a little more than courious as to where you found the name Stephen as the name of his father. It is quite possible but I have never been able to make the connection. There are also a couple other intries on your tree that I am interested in. Please contact me at Alwayslooking53@yahoo.com
Thank You, Laura
CRISSEY, William Stoddart/d

According to my CRISSEY research, the information (both from his obituary and the Elwell Crissey history, Horse Preacher, Blue Water Publ., 1989) that William Stoddart/d CRISSEY was orphaned in 1818 is incorrect. Only his father, Stoddard, died. The following support the fact that his mother, Sarah Ann CRISSEY, survived:

1819, Abstract of Book 1 & Book A Probate Record, 1791-1826, Hamilton Co., Ohio, p. 452 - Stoddart CRISSEY decd. Admrs. Sarah Ann CRISSEY & William T. CRISSEY, Bond $1600.

1819, October, Cincinnati City Directory - CRISSEY, Mrs. Sarah Ann, seamstress; CRISSEY, William T., druggist

1820, 6 June, Cincinnati Advertiser - Notice is hereby given to all persons having claims against the Estate of STODDARD CRISSEY, deceased, that they present the same within one year duly proven for settlement; and all persons indebted to the Estate will please to pay the same without delay. WM. TM. CRISSEY, Adm'r. SARAH ANN CRISSEY, Adm'x., May 23d 1820.

1825, Cincinnati Directory - CRISSEP, Sarah Ann, seamstress, Walnut, betw. 5th and 6th, Con. [Connecticut]

1831, Cincinnati Directory - CRISSY, Sarah Ann Mrs.

1842, Cincinnati Directory - CRISSEY, Mrs. Sarah Ann, bds. [boards] T. [Thomas] Richardson

1843, Cincinnati Directory - CRISSEY, Mrs. Sarah Ann, bds. T. Richardson
1854, October 1, Cincinnati Times - On Monday evening, October 1st, after a long and serious illness, Mrs. Nancy Richardson, wife of Thomas Richardson, aged 45 years and 5 months. Her friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral, from the residence, 182 Linn Street, on Wednesday, 3d inst., at 3 o'clock p.m.

1855, August 9, Cincinnati Times - On Thursday morning, August 9th, at 6 o'clock of bilious diarrhea, Sarah Ann Crissey, in the 70th year of her age. Funeral will take place from the residence of her son-in-law Thomas Richardson, No. 182 Linn Street, between Catherine and Clark Streets, tomorrow at 2 o'clock p.m. The friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend.

[Nancy Crissey and Thomas Richardson's daughter, Sarah Ann, was the wife of Jacob D. SHUTT. They lived across the river in Covington, KY. For several years after his wife's and mother-in-law's death, Thomas, a carpenter and builder, was in the lumber business with Jacob.]

Sarah Ann Crissey, Nancy and Thomas Richardson, Sarah Ann Shutt, and others are buried at Spring Grove Cemetery in section 73, lot 10, belonging to Margaret A. Peale. Margaret is Sarah Ann and Stoddart/d's youngest daughter and Nancy Richardson's aunt. Margaret was married to Samuel Peale. They are my GGGPs. One of their sons, William Crissey Peale, was my GGF. Stoddard Crissey is not listed among those buried at Spring Grove and I have not been able to locate him elsewhere. People familiar with Cincinnati gravesites have suggested that his burial ground may have been lost to downtown construction.

To any who are interested in this branch of the family, I invite you to email me at: diana@lightassoc.com.

Diana Light
Irvine, CA

Hannah Wilmot m. David Crissey in CT

HI,

Just wanted to post this connection that I was able to find,
thanks to a fellow researcher. It looks like all the siblings married but still little interest in this family.

David Crissey m. Hannah Wilmot

Children:

Jemima m. ? Fairchild
Mary m. Joseph Loomis
Naomi m. Daniel Potter
Preserved m. Rachel Kellogg
Israel m. Alice Woodruff
Liberty m. ? Brainard
Hannah m. Levi Dean
Asenath "Sena" m. Ira Mudge (my line)
Phineas (Don't know if he married or not)

From my family Asenath's name got garbled, and we had
Lucena "Sena" ? for her. Complicating matters she used
her knick-name Sena to name one of her daughters and not
her full name.

This family seems to have moved from New Haven Co., CT, to
Litchfield Co, CT to Otsego Co., NY quite fast, and thus why researchers had trouble finding some of the branches. David Crissey was a farmer as was his sons.

The book that was found, just happens to follow the men, in
this family, which is David and his son, Preserved, Israel and Phineas. Luckily, it also knew who the girls married too! The book is Annals of Winchester, on pg. 270

Ellen Baker
Washington State

I am looking for more information about Sylvanus Crissey, who died 24 June 1830 in Bedford, NY. His widow is listed as being Keziah Holmes Crissey. According to his Rev. War pension file, he married Keziah in October of 1779.

It is a bit difficult to track Sylvanus down. Any advice or suggestions on where to look would be welcome.

Parents of Alexander Crissey

It is my understanding that a common naming convention was to name the first born son after the mother's father and the second born after the father's father. The first born daughter was named after the father's mother and the second born after the mother's mother. If this is correct Alexander and Elizabeth's first two sons and daughters are in birth order are Alva, Hester, Sarah and Nathaniel. This would make Alexander's parents Nathaniel and Hester and Elizabeth's Alva and Sara. Both were born about 1812, He in Westchester and she in Dutchess.
In 1810 I found a Nathan Crissey in Bedford and a Nathaniel in Stamford, CT
What I need is is this Nathaniel's wife Hester and did they have a son Alexander?

She was their youngest daughter. I believe she is the Hannah Crissie age 19 listed with John and Hannah Curry and their son Joseph in Neversink, Sullivan, NY on the 1870 census and the Hanah Criss age 27 listed with John Curry a widower and his son Joseph in Neversink, Sullivan on the 1880 census.
In 1900 I could not find her or John Curry although at 91 he was probably dead. I found two listings for Joseph Curry. Both age 50 and born in June but one was born 1850 and living with John Bookel as a laborer and the other was born 1849 and living with Hull Rosecrane as a laborer. Both of the people’s names he is shown living with are as indexed. The two listing are three pages apart in Neversink, Sullivan, NY. He may have been working for both people. In both cases the marital status could be an M or a W but there is no entry in the years married column nor a wife listed. The reason I mention Joseph in 1900 is after having lived together 10+ years he and Hannah may have married and she died. Or she may have moved out and married someone else or died. I don’t know.
Please respond here or directly at mbacon3@cfl.rr.com
Marty
Alexander and Elizabeth Crissey younger children

I need help with the younger children of Alexander and Elizabeth Crissey; they are:
Hiram born 3-23-1846
John born 3-18-1849
William born 3-18-1849
Jane born 1-6-1850
Susan born 1-6-1850
Hannah born 5-2-1851
Alexander born 4-20-1853
The first five should have been on the 1850 Federal Census with the rest of the family in Rochester, Ulster, NY. They were not and I am assuming they all died before mid 1850 when the census was done. The last two should have been on the 1855 Ulster State Census but only Hannah was and again I am assuming Alexander died between 1853 and 1855. The following was also shown on the 1855 Census. Alexander was born in Westchester County; Elizabeth and all the children except Hannah were born in Dutchess County and Hannah was born in Ulster. In addition it also says they were living in Ulster for 5 years. What I am looking for is the date and place of death. Alexander would be Rochester, Ulster County. But what cemeteries were there in the early 1850’s. The others are most likely in Dutchess County, NY but some may have been Ulster County. I have not a clue where in Dutchess County they lived. In addition two of the older children Hetty or Hester 2-13-1838 and Nathaniel born 3-24-1841 only appear on the 1850 and 1855 census and the entire family is not on the 1860 and only Alva, Sarah, George, Alson and Hannah appear after 1860.
What has really hindered my research is being in Florida and having to depend on online sources or exchanging information.
Any help will be appreciated. You can reply here or directly at mbacon3@cfl.rr.com
Marty
Looking for information on Priscilla. She was born about 1844 to Henry and Nelly Low and was still at home in 1860. Between 1860 and 1870 she married Alva Crissey and they had 4 children. Then in 1880 she is shown as a widow with another child for a total of 5. In 1900 to 1920 she is listed living with her daughter Lorilla and husband Frank Williams. She is shown as Priscilla Divine and 1910 indicates she was married twice and had 6 children 4 living. The children are Marinda, married to Arthur Merritt, Lorilla, Norman, married to Cora Burger, Alvira and Ira. She lived in Sullivan or Ulster Counties, NY from 1860 to 1920. I have no information on her second husband.
If you can supply any information on this family please post a message here or you can contact me at mbacon3@cfl.rr.com thanks.
Marty Bacon

Moseman Crissy, b. abt 1782

I am looking for Moseman Crissy (I've also seen it spelled Crissey). He was born about 1782 and married Anna Benedict in 1810 in Westchester Co., NY. Moseman appears on the 1820, 1830, and 1840 censuses for Medina Co. Ohio. He died in 1848 I believe. His wife Anna Benedict Crissy died in 1850. Their daughter, Emma Crissy married Darius Oviatt in 1848 in Ohio. The other censuses suggest there were 3 more children, but so far I don't know their names.

Moseman is my 3ggfather. I've been searching around New York and Connecticut for Crissys and Crisseys. On the marriage record his name is spelled Cressey. Any advice will be appreciated!

I'm working on Crissey families in Elizabeth and New Brunswick, New Jersey from the late 1700s. The Crisseys go back in Elizabeth at least to the 1730s. There were at least 3 Williams in the bunch, and a couple named "Ellit" (not Elliot), including the earliest identified, who was born by 1715 and married Sarah Woodruff. I suspect a connection with the NYC Crisseys and possibly the Bedford NY / Stamford CT families, but I can't find an Ellit there.

If you have a Crissey born 1815 whose father was born c. 1790 in NJ, I would look in Elizabeth, New Brunswick or Newark for the father.

Let me know if you hook anything up!

Gary

I do not know too much of my background. All the Crissy's I knew were from Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia, Lehighton and Colesdale,PA. areas. Grandfather Al Crissy, father Richard A. Crissy, mother Elaine (Pennington) Crissy, uncle John Crissy who are all deceased now. I also had two aunts from Colesdale, PA. (also deceased)their names were Helen and Katherine.

Hi Tracy,
I'm not sure if we are related either. The spelling of my last name is Crissy, but that doesn't really mean anything because it could have been changed. You have a lot more information than I do. Most of my Crissy family were from upstate Pennsylvania, although my Grandfather's name was Al Crissy and he lived in Philadelphia, he was a policeman.
Sincerely, Grace Crissy
