Libby, I know it has been several years since this query but this Charles is in my Richard Hazelwwood Crittenden family. I just wondered if you found more on the family. I have been to Johnson and Bartholomew Counties in Indiana where they were. Write me back if you see this.

Hi Sarah, Thomas Crittenden was my 6th Great Grandfather. I have he might have married Fanny Austin, but am not sure about that, but, I noticed that you had Stacy Austin Crittenden as his daughter, so maybe he wife was Fanny Austin with his daughter's middle name being Austin. So, if Daniel and Stacy Austin Crittenden McKinney are your ancestors than Thomas would be your ancestor also. So, Thomas was your 3rd Great Grandfather and my 6th Great Grandfather. It is nice meeting new cousin. I have Thomas's parents as William Crittenden born after 1716? in Essex Co. Va. and Eleaner or Elnore Downs. I have Eleanor father as Henry Downs born about 1675 in Eng.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Dianne

My aunt was Elinor Downs Crittenden McKinney My forefather was Daniel McKinney who married Stacy Austin Crittenden whose father was Thomas Crittenden. However, I know nothing about Thomas. Daniel and Stacy both died. I think their children, Jeptha and Jefferson were reared by Thomas. Jeptha was my great grandfather. Apparently the Crittendens were well educated. Jeptha graudated from Tulane which at that time was Louisiana College. He practiced medicine for many years in St. Helena. Some of his letters are on file at LSU. They may give you some information.

grandi42,
I have what you wrote in your message, but we disagree on the date. You have the CRITTENDENS crossing the Atlantic in 1636. It was actually 1639 & they landed in New Haven, Conn. Later that same year, the CRITTENDEN & a number of other families bought land from an Indian woman-(I can't remember her name). On this land is the town of Guilford, Conn.
About 10 years ago I drove to Guilford & somewhere I have the complete story of their voyage & the founding of Guilford. I have (somewhere) the pictures of the town & the stone house that their leader, Rev. WHITFIELD, (I can't remember his name, but WHITFIELD is at least close to the correct name.) built. Many of the other families lived in this building until they built their own houses. What I'm writing now is all by memory. Another family that was on this voyage was the CRITTENDEN's neighbor, the CHITTENDEN family. I bought the book "Families of Early Guilford, Connecticut" by Alvan Talcott. Many of the families that sailed together in 1639 have their family trees from 1639 through 1890.

Jack S. CRITTENDEN & his 3rd. wife Mary Laima EVANS.
If this is the couple that you have pictures of, then I would be interested in these pictures. I have both of these people being buried in Bonner Springs, Wyandotte, Kansas. They were married in Ohio on 01-11-1869 in Ohio & apparently moved to Huron, Wayne Co., Michigan by the 1870 census & by the 1880 census, they were living in Sherman, Leavenworth Co., Kansas & in the 1900 census, they were living in Wyandotte, Delaware Co., Kansas. On 02-08-1904, Mary died & on 11-02-1907, Medad died. I have no children for this couple, but I do have three children born to Medad & wives #1 & #2.
My grandmother was Oleta Lucille CRITTENDEN.

Jack S.
I believe we share a mutual interest in the Crittenden ancestral line. I am a Crittenden by birth and am interested in connecting with critts from all over. My ancestor Abraham Cruttenden crossed the pond from Kent, England in 1636 and was influential in founding Guilford, Connecticut. I can be reached by E-mail at cnltedder@aol.com. Hoping to hear from you
Carol Crittenden Tedder

Dear Carol,

I am related through my dad Fred Ballinger. I have Medad Franklin Crittenden born in NY in 1834. He was my Grandmother Ballinger's Grandfather. Although, it seems like she said he was her step grandfather. He married my G G Grandmother Minerva Curry in Ashland OH in 1862. Their child was Elnora Minerva Crittenden Veltman. Who was married to Charles G. Veltman. They had a child called Etta May Veltman Ballinger (My Grandmother).

Are you confused yet? I have the line going back to Henry Cruttenden born in 1530. Don't have where. The line goes Henry b 1530, anthony Cruttenden,I-b 1550, Anthony II b 1570, Abraham Cruttenden b 1584 in England but died at sea, then Abraham b 1610 in Kent, Eng., Abraham b 1635 in Kent d 1725 in Guilford, New Haven, Then Abraham Crittenden (changed the last name) b 1688. etc. The family went from Kent, England to New Haven to CT to MA to NY to OH to KS. The rest of the family moved to KC MO then to Independence MO. That is where I am. My Dad moved to IL where he is living in a nursing since last year.

Let me hear from you. Am interested.
Barbara (Ballinger) Patterson.
beejay5@sbcglobal.net
