Surely someone out there is related to me. I cannot find documented parents for my g-g-grandfather, Robert Crockett. Robert married Elizabeth Doughton (Daughton, Doughten, Dowden, take your pick on the spelling). They had several children, one being my g-grandmother Jane (aka Jennie). He them married Anna Poe and had another family. I have connected with another distant cousin in California researching same line. Her grandmother was Robert's daughter Polly. She has had no luck either. I have been told there was a relative named John Crockett(aka Big John Crockett), who lived at Cranebrake. I can remember seeing a photo that belonged to my grandmother of a man in a casket she said was John Crockett. He had a daughter who had a beauty shop at Hartwell, WV. Robert had a son named Columbus (aka Uncle Lum), who raised a family in West Virginia, I believe he had a daughter named Georgia. His wife was Nora. If anyone knows anything no matter how trivial, please contact me. It may be the clue to break thru this brick wall. You may contact me directly: nubblesmom@yahoo.com
Thanks,
Barb

I may have information on this family. I am a Crockett. Most of my family was from Alexandria, VA by way of Baltimore, MD. They worked on the railroad. I am related to Crockett's on tangier, but cannot find the link. There were James & Roberts in my family. I have pictures of Crocketts and Pruitts together on Tangier from the 30's (Captain Wyatt Pruitt and Evelyn Crockett)? Maybe they are recognizable to someone from Tangier.

Re: WILLIAM ALEX CROCKETT

Hello,

My name is Leona Crockett Hiley, I was born and raised in California. My grandfather is Ida Leona Crockett's brother, James Alcorn Crockett. James' mother was Martha Jane Hampton, and William Alexander Crockett was his father. Ida, and James also had an older brother William Thomas. I have printed a note about William Alex's death. The story was told to me by my Grandfather, William Alexander's son James Alcorn Crockett, b.1892 d.1962 buried in Denver. James Alcorn, had two sons, my father, James Edward, and Joseph Warren Crockett. The mother of his Children is Zettie Sales Crockett Durden, who died in 1909 in Ark. Georgia May Sales, married Their older brother William Thomas. BTW, I have been trying to track Ida, I found her in Ark. and I knew from my grandfather that she had passed on in 58, however, I was having a problem finding names. Question, at the time of Ida's death, was her name Harder or Snow. The story of William's death is below.

The death of my great grandfather William Alexander, 23, November 1894; as told to me by my grandfather James Alcorn, and also, by my father James Edward Crockett..

William was working as a sheriff in Friars Pt. Mississippi in the 1890's. Friars Pt., a border town, located across the Mississippi river from Arkansas.

This is the story that I was told about that event. My great grandfather, William, was breaking up a fight in a bar; and he was shot in the back. He died that evening.

William, at the time, was living with his wife, Martha, and his three children. William had a 17 year old son, William Thomas; a 5 year old daughter, Ida Leona; and a 2 year old son, James Alcorn.

The evening of the murder, Martha took her three children; and the body of her dead husband; and fled, by buck board, back to Arkansas. William was buried somewhere along the road.

The reason Martha left in such a hurry, was because a friend had warned her that the men who murdered her husband, had also, threatened the life of her eldest son, William Thomas. These men who were responsible for the killing; were worried that the eldest son might seek revenge and were out to kill him as well.

Martha recorded the death of her husband William in Desha Arkansas, as occurring on the 23, November, 1894. Source: Recorded: Desha Co. Arkansas, Marriage Record Book A. page 156. I received this information from one Carol Draper; of Portland Oregon, in 1996, who stated that she had records in her possession, and sent me photo copies. Martha remarried, 19, July, 1897 to Elijah J. Craddick. Recorded; Arkansas Co. Arkansas, Book 1 page 389. Martha died in 1909.

Leona Crockett Hiley, great granddaughter, of William Alexander, granddaughter of James A, and daughter of James Edward Crockett
My grandmother was Olive LuElla Crockett third cousin to David Crockett of "Alamo" fame.
As a child we used to attend the "Barker-Crockett" reunion every summer in Carrollton, Missouri. It was always held on the first Sunday in June, at the city park. I am assuming they still hold it.
I am sure there are many Crockett reunions, but maybe this will help you. I am just beginning to research this branch of my family, if you have anything that would help me would be appreciated.
One of my grandmother's sister's was Bessie Viola Crockett. Their parents were Albert Thomas and LuElla Crockett. (These two "Crockett" sisters married two brothers from the Barker family).
I know this message is old but I have to try...You are the first person I have found on several websites that have mentioned Crockett's in Wyoming. My Grandfather, David B. Crockett(who originally came from either Tennessee or Kentucky) married a lady I believe named Mary Trujillo on October 1, 1908 in Wyoming. They had three children David Crockett born sometime 1909-1911, Lila Crockett born 1909-1911 & Marshall William Crockett born Sep 1913...If any of these names sounds familiar please email me at dianewebb1951@msn.com Thank you

JOHN C. REIMERS

I'm attempting to contact John C. Reimers who posted a message on this board 7 January 2002. He posted the following information:

I am a descendent of Andrew Jackson Crockett, born 1822 in Perry County AL. His daughter was Cynthia Qumile Crockett, married to George Willis Rhymes in Texas. They had Annie Eliza Rhymes, my grandmother. Am looking for the parents and siblings of Andrew Jackson Crockett. It’s from 2002, but might be a lead. This family is listed in 1860 Erath, Tx. census, and in 1870 in Yuma, Az. But there is another Cynthia Crockett in Tx in 1860 (d/o of John and Eliza) so I can’t confirm which is the right one.

Unfortunately, his email address is no longer valid, and we are cousins so I'm most interested in exchanging family information with him.

~ Happy Hunting ~

Re: James Anderson "Asher" Crockett Born Sept-1760 Hampshire Co WVA

Hi Steve,
I'm not sure about Asher Crockett ending up in Kansas though he did have a son by the name of Peter who went to Kansas ca. 1830's with his wife Nancy (Spurlock) Crockett. They raised a family in Kansas. My relation to Asher is that he is my gr-gr-gr-great grandfather who lived in Cabell-Wayne Co., VA now West Virginia most of his life. His son Andrew Johnson Crockett is my direct ancestor and brother to Peter. Asher was a Revolutinary War soldier with proof of documentation. There has been some confusion on other genealogy boards about his background and his name. He went by the name of James Anderson while serving in the army during the American Revolution. He took the name because someone else who was drafted didn't want to go so Asher enlisted under the draftee name. Hope this clear alot of this up.

Teresa C
