Hi,

My maiden name is Crofoot and I was also always told I was Native American. I was told the name was originally Crowfoot and the W was eventually dropped. All of my evidence regarding an Indian origin is anecdotal. All of the Crofoot men looked Indian. Also - a dentist once told me that I had a ridge behind my teeth that he had only seen on American Indians. However, everyone I have talked to online has told me the Crofoot name is English and specifically of Welsh origin. I spoke with a history professor a few years ago whose name was Crofoot and she said she was positive it had no Native American roots. I would love to get to the bottom of this...can anyone shed any light on this?
