I think I have uncovered a minor change in the children
of Hubbard and Anna Van Tassel.
It has been thought by me, and most, that daughter Sarah Crawfoot was daughter of Hubbard and Anna, or Hubbard and
first wife Maria Smith.
I came across strong evidence that shows Sarah was actually Sarah Haywood, presumed by me to be daughter of Anna Van Tassel and first husband Unknown HAYWOOD.
Researching a ggg-uncle, William M Clark and his family in Texas, I came across the death certificate of son James H Clark that showed his mothers maiden name as Sarah Haywood.
I thought I remembered that Anna Van Tassel's first husband was a Haywood.
It appears that Sarah was enumerated as Crawfoot on the 1850 Niagra NY Census with parents Hubbard and Anna. This being the only census she was ever enumerated on being unmarried.
1860 Harrison Co, Mississippi Census Sarah was married to a Fredric (Horace) Ball w/2 children and living in next household to mother and step father, Anna and Hubbard.
Mississippi Marriages, 1776-1935 / Ancestry.com
Name: Fredrick Ball
Spouse: Jane Hayward
Marriage Date: 14 Feb 1854
County: Harrison
On 1870 Simpson Co, MS she is found widowed with two sons living next household to a Clark family. Sarah married William Clark shortly after this census but no record, the Simpson County Courthouse burned about 1878.
To muddy the water even more, many Clark researchers show
this Sarah as Sarah Crawford and marrying David Clark, William's brother. David did marry a Sarah but not Sarah Haywood.
Both William and David Clark are brothers to my ggg-gf John Herbert Clark who married Clarissa Crawfoot, younger step sister? to Sarah Haywood Ball Clark, and daughter of Hubbard and Anna.
I have it all, with all census info, as I see it in my file,
corrections and thoughts welcome.
