Comments: As a result of the second marriage of Griffin Croft, to Ursula, the daughter of Henry Adams, several dates for vital events in this family are found in a Streeter family Bible. In that record the death date for Griffin Craft is given as 21 Aug 1690, whereas his death date from his inventory was given as 4 Oct 1689, and the inventory was taken on 27 Nov 1689, so the 1690 date must be wrong. The death date for Ursula Adams is recorded in the Bible as 20 Feb 1649, which is wrong by decades, and the year of death of 1679 is an editorial suggestion. When the date of a vital event is found only in this Bible, then, it should be treated with some skepticism.
Also, among his descendants, in eastern Massachusetts ‘Craft’ was favored, but in western Massachusetts and Connecticut ‘Crafts’ was more common.
Estate: In his will of 18 May 1689 Griffin Crafts bequeathed to wife Dorcas £7 10s. and "one book of Mr. Girren's works," to son Moses Craft £10 "be~sides what he oweth me already and all my wearing clothes," to son-in-law Nathaniel Wilson "besides fifteen pounds that he oweth me already five pounds more," to son-in-law Edward Adams £5, to daughter Hannah Wilson £10 if she outlive her husband, to daughter Abegail Adams £10 (in same manner as to Hannah Wilson), to grandchild Ephraim Craft a cow at age twenty-one, and to son Samuel Craft (executor) "all my housing and lands & estate of what kind & nature soever ... excepting the movables in the house"; signed by mark (he was blind several years), witnessed by Joseph Griggs and William Gareis, and proved 9 November 1690.
Administration on the estate of Griffin Crofts was granted on 27 January 1690/1 to "Elizabeth Crofts, widow, and Samuel Crofts, son of Samuel Crofts, late of Roxbury aforesaid, deceased".
The inventory of "Griffin Croft late of Roxbury who died upon the fourth day of October" 1689 was taken 27 November 1689 by Samuel Ruggles Sr., Joseph Griggs and Samuel Gore, and totalled £288 10s., of which £250 was real estate:
"dwelling house with outhousing, about 7 acres of meadow before the door together with the orchard," £120; and "about 33 acres of land adjoining to said orchard & meadows," £130
