John had two brothers: James Croft, born 1797, died 3 March 1873, and Thomas Croft, born 1814, died August 1894
29 June 1828: John Croft, Bachelor, and Frances Toppin, Spinster, were married in the Parish of Bedwelty, Monmouth, Wales, UK.
Both John and Frances were residents of Bedwellty Parish at the time of their marriage. Witnesses to their marriage were John Toppin and Ann Croft. (On 8 March 1829 John Toppin married Hannah Davies in the same Parish.)

On the 19 April 1851 marriage certificate of Thomas Evans and Ann Croft, John was named as Ann's father, occupation: Forgeman, born in England.
John Croft, age 46 years, a Miner, emigrated to the USA on the Bark Laurens leaving Bristol on 26 June 1851 and arriving at New York, NY, on 9 August 1851. Also on the ship's passenger list were: Frances Croft, age 43 years, William Croft, age 3 years; Thomas Croft, age 6 years;
Sarah Croft, age 7 years; Rebecca Croft, age 11 years; Maria Croft, age 13 years; John Croft, age 21 years, a Miner; Thomas Evans, age 19years; and Mary Ann (Ann Croft) Evans; age 15 years, a Seamstress.
On arrival in the USA, they went directly to Howard, Centre County, PA.
Apparently two of John's brothers had preceded them to Howard.
