I am looking for information on S.P. Croft who married a Sarah Croft in Midway township, Bamberg Co SC in the 1850-60 time frame, and Sarah was a wid. by the 1880 census, leaving me to believe S.P. Croft may have been in the CSA. Sarah was living in the H/H of Linis Smith in the last census. If anyone has access to the Census for this time frame, and could shed any light on this family I would appricate it. I am connected to the Croft family thru William Eston Croft who went from Midway-Salley-Gregg Township, Aiken Co. SC Thanks Jack Wood

Wow I've always wanted to know about my great grandmothers brothers and sisters. I've only ever heard about my grandmother (she was the center of our side of the family). I'm so glad that you responded to my message.

Yes I have found that John's middle name was Hipple. For a while I was confused because I found that some people were calling him John Henry (Which is one of his sons names, as I'm sure you know). Have you heard much about any of the other family, any of Oscars brothers and sisters? I only got to meet my great grandmother once because she died when I was only nine months old, so the only thing I have that shows that I have met her is the photos from our family reunion. I would love if you would e-mail me with some other information that you have. I have a genealogy book that my grandmother (wife of Bruce Alfred Montgomery, son of Grace Irene) made and I also have one that Virgil Leigh Thompson (son of Hope Cansada) made. I would love to get as much information on the family as possible.

my e-mail address is
imak1kami@aol.com

Thank you,
Kamarin Montgomery

There is a photo of GW Croft posted on the Monroe County, TN website www,tngennet.org/monroe/photos/military/CivilWar0001.htm. This Croft(s) line is mine. I do believe that there is some mix up from what I have come across. George Washington Crofts served in the Civil War as a confederate soldier in the 43 Tennessee Infantry (5 East TN Volunteers-Gillespie's Reg't). George was born on March 20, 1832 in Monroe County to Josiah Frishy & Margaret Mitchell Crofts. He married Martha Elizabeth Bazzell b. Sept 11, 1835 SC married 1853. George died Oct 1915 in Monroe County, TN & is buried along with Martha at the Croft Family Cementary. I hope this helps. I am looking for information on both Bazzell & Margaret Mitchell. You may contact me: haleofanidea@hotmail.com

Hi Shelia--pleased to "meet" you! I just checked to see what I have on your gramma, and it isn't much. I have census records from 1910 and 1920. That's it. But now that I have put in a little more info about her, let's see if we get really lucky and something pops. Prior to adding your gracious info, I had 1 hint hanging on her when I opened her record. Both member trees focused on Rufus, so I couldn't pull any helpful info from them. I see you have a Bledsoe in your tree. Someone in the Croft tree married a Bledsoe and had a passel of younguns'. I can't easily jump back and forth between my tree and here, doggone it. Are you related to that Bledsoe? Darn--I wish I could remember which girl married Yancey Bledsoe. Right on the tip of my tongue--you know how that goes! Forgot about my printout--Suzannah Emaline married Yancey. She's GWs sister (your aunt). Other than that, I would be delighted to share info with you. I am specifically interested in GWs brother William's branch. You may contact me at buttrkup@gmail.com, and my name is Dolores.

Her parents were John & Ann Dilts Hipple.

My husband Lloyd K. Croft is the great great grandson of John Hipple Croft, his line being Wm. T. Croft, Oscar C. Croft, Lloyd Ollie Croft. I have found little documentation for the great and great great grandparents (so far). Most of what I have I've gotten from Ancestry.com ,Rootsweb and Genforum but have found some good clues.

L.Croft

Hi lady, Cheryl is a little slow answering but her info is very good. She is usually working or traveling. Not too much time for computers. She lived with the people and knew them first hand.
I'll look around and see what all she left in my computer as far as the Crofts are concerned.

My Great Grandmother was Grace Irene (Croft) Montgomery. She was born to William Teeter Croft and Alice Madara Caulk. William Teeter Croft was the son of John Henry Croft (born 1818) and Elizabeth Teeter. I'm not sure if the middle name Henry is right due to the fact that my grandmother was the one that wrote out our geneology and she is no longer with us. Also she was getting information from my grandfather who got it by word of mouth. Trough research I have found that John Henry Croft was the son of Daniel Croft and Margaret Hipple although I haven't been able to go any futher than that. I'm not sure if this helps you but I do have other information on the other children that John Henry Croft had as well as the date of his death which is August 19, 1892. I hope this helps.

We have the same Croft family tree. I am descended from John Alfred Croft, born 1838, brother to William, born 1831. All the siblings match the ones that I have. They were born in Rixton-with-Glazebrook, which is a sub district of Warrington, Lanc. John Croft born 1806/7 was married to an Eliza(beth) Andrews. John Alfred is my great grandfather. I have all the birth dates of the siblings of William - will this help. Are you descended from one of these siblings? Can I help in any way.
Sandra
Hi Lou thanks for replying so promptly. I have a William Croft born 1770 married to Ann Cookson who had nine children one of the sons is John Croft born 1807 married to an Eliza Andrews (John Alfred's father) and there is a son William who was born 1801. Is this the William you are talking about because if so as you say he would be an uncle to my great great grandfather John Alfred born 1838. I haven't tried to go further than the William Croft born 1734 married to Elizabeth as I am trying to confirm my lineage is correct. Do you have the name of all the siblings etc if not I am quite happy to send them to you.
Sandra

Hi Sandra

My lineage comes down through John Alfred's uncle William 1770. He married Ann Cookson.

Mum and went to Salford family history centre and just scoured for any Crofts from the area. We also went round Hollins Green graveyard as there are ancestors buried there. Met some rellies in Irlam as well.
Lou

Yes, G.W. crofts was in the civil war. I have copies of his war and parole records. He was stationed in Vicksburg, Miss, and there is also a photo of him in his civil war uniform. I know that his e-mail is long after the discussion listed before, but it answers your question.

Hi Hugh
Sorry we do not have a link - I got quite excited!! The name Hawarden is a little village in Flintshire where many of the Croft family originated. It seems so strange that the names Joseph and Peter keep cropping up in both our family trees.
I am aware that one of my distant relatives called John Crofts was converted to the Latter Day Saints - was shunned by the family and emigrated to America - I think he eventually owned mines and like all of the Mormon faith headed West to Idaho where many of the Croft family now live as descendents of John - He left the UK early in the 1800's
So who knows we might still be related .!!!
My great grandfather Joseph was born in 1830 and died in 1914 his son (one of 3) also Joseph was born in 1865 married an Ann and died in 1898.

Regards

Cherry

Hi Hugh
Just checked the family tree and realized that my great grandfather Joseph had a son Joseph who married an Ann - he had brother Alfred and and 7 sisters one of which was a Martha
I am presuming that Joseph who is your grandfather was a brother of my grandfather Robert. Sort that one out!!!!
Look forward to hearing from you
Regards
Cherry

Hi Hugh
Thanks for your prompt reply - could you confirm your e-mail address as I think you have to add your country at the end. My e-mail address is cherry.andrew@tiscali.co.uk I have photos I can scan to you of Joseph Croft and Robert and his family
Joseph married an Elizabeth Griffiths - his father Peter married a Martha ( Thomas ?) and his father was another Peter Crofts who married a Jane Adams.
If you e-mail me I am sure we can sort out the discrepancies
Regards
Cherry
Wow! How cool is that?! When you found/answered my inquiry is not a prob. I am just so glad you replied. Yes, I too, have a photo of GW in his uniform--a mighty handsome man!! He and my friend's father look like twins!! I have GWs Civil War service record and his US Civ War soldier record. I didn't have the Vicksburg info--thanx. I have been able to reconstruct an impressive number of members of his branch of the tree. In fact, I have been filling the blanks for the past month. After my records searches have petered out, I have gone back to check member hints to see where they lead me. I am doing this research for a friend who is related to GWs brother William. Unfortunately, Wms branch is pretty slim in comparison. But what an interesting family. This has been such a fun task I hate to see it wind down. If I have any info to assist you, I am glad to help. If I might ask "who" you are--"whozz your daddy"? Oh, if you haven't found the Ancient Faces Web site--go look. There are several (our)Croft photos there--but don't get sucked in to the Geo WA photos--he's not related, doggone it. The photos are from Arthur Thomas' lineage--one of GWs sons!
