James Croghan b.c.1828 Athlone Co. Roscommon or Westmeath, Ireland. Arrived in Australia 1865 on "Maryborough" landing at Fort Denison, Queensland. He was a free settler. Occ. Stonemason.m. Mary Ann Ryan in Tipperary. She was a daughter of Michael Ryan also a stonemason. James and Mary came with their son James aged 6 at the time of their arrival. Daughter Catherine was born either on the journey to Australia or shortly after their arrival. Other issue Michael Joseph b. ?.9.1867 d.29.4.1868. Patrick Joseph b. 1869 Balmain NSW. Michael Francis b. 1871 Camden NSW. Two daughters Bridget and MaryEllen seem to have been left behind in Ireland. Son James m. 1. Susannah Banfield, 2. Elizabeth King. 3. Mary Ann Fisher. Daughter Catherine m. Thomas Devine, Campbelltown NSW. Patrick Joseph m. Julia McDonald, Paddington 1893. Michael Francis m. Mary Heazlett Perth WA 1907.
