I want to help you do this research but what you have is pretty vague. Please provide your father and mothers name, birth, place. Need more [if you have it] on his parents such as full names, maiden name of wife, other places lived. The names William and Nancy are pretty common so any initials, nicknames or military service, etc. will be helpful.
You can contact me directly.

Patrick Crocker
patrickliveshere@aol.com

My father had 5 brothers and one sister. Their Dad died right after the sister was born. No one knows what happened to her. I have theorized that she was adopted. The parents names were William and Nancy Croker. They lived in Floyd County, Georgia. The girls name is Annie M. Croker. She was born sometime between 1927 and 1930. Does anyone have any ideas how I might find out anything about her?

Can you tell me if there is any chance that my grgr-grandmother could fit in this family? I recently found the record in Quebec of Mary Ann (Marie Anne) Croker's marriage to her first husband Thomas Laffan. She says she is from Ireland and that she came to the US in 1849 to live in Wisconsin. Later census info states that she came to Canada in 1836. She was born about 1827, her father was John Croker
Jill Olson Gaffney

James Joseph Quan came from Ireland to Bristol certainly in 1841 with 'wife' Ellen Croker, and child Michael. She died in 1843, and in 1845 definitely married Ann Croker presumably sisters. They were all Roman Catholics ,initially he was a Policeman , and gathering increasing family moved around England and Wales. James died in 1875 in Polar aged about 70, and Ann (became Anastasia in 1871 Census) died aged 62 in 1888 in the ''Essex Lunatic Asylum''.
Any ideas would be welcomed to trace Quan /Croker families pre 1840.
Cheers

Hi George,
I do not have any information about Michael Ryan. If I may suggest an idea though. If you go to amazon.com and put in keyword Tammany Hall, there are some books available about its
history. Richard Croker came from County Cork so possibly Michael Ryan was an acquaintance? Or maybe since the populace of Tammany Hall was 100% Irish, it could just be a coincidence. Good Luck
Marie Coscette

Hi Marie,

I am trying to trace the movement of my great great uncle Michael Ryan, who emigrated from Ireland (west Co. Cork) to New York (not sure of date). It was said that he was an aide to 'Boss' Croker of Tammany Hall.

Unusually, his mother also emigrated to NY sometime after that to join him ;
both of them died there.

Do you have any information on a Michael Ryan who was linked to Richard Croker?

regards,

George Ryan

Croker m.1846 Quebec>WI

I recently followed many of the blog threads on Ancestry for Croker families. I also found a clue that I hope might help in my finding more about my gr gr grandmother's family.
Her obit in April 1901 said that she and husband Thomas Laffan came to Wisconsin from Canada in 1849. The 1850 census in Columbia Co WI found the couple stated they were both born in Ireland. They were listed with their first 2 children Mary b. 1850 in WI and James b.1847 or 48 in New Brunswick. This I have known for years and years, but the Canadian records on Ancestry provided their marriage in 1846 in Quebec. The best news was that it listed her parents: John Croker and Mary Ryan(of Quebec) and his parents: James Laffan and Anna Ryan(of New Brunswick). My gr gr Grandmother's name was listed as Marie Ann Croker.

You have probably seen my queries before, but it's my hope that using this information I can find more clues. Every little bit helps.

Yes this is who we are looking for. What is the family tree back from your husband and do you know where edward f croker was born? Thanks for your help with this. My boyfriend is originally from upstate NY and I think he came across this nozzle in the Binghamton area back in the 70's. Do you know if edward ever lived in this area?
Tracy Pardue Smith
Dear Nick

Don't know if this is anything to do with your tree but am trying to find a Robert Croker - possible middle name Joseph - who was born in July 1897 - where I don't know - and he married in 1st Quarter 1921 in Liverpool to a Margaret O'Connor. Am having no problems with the O'Connor tree but cannot get further back than my paternal Grandfather.

It just seems a co-incidence that 1897 popped up in your mail message.

I cannot find him in any of the English Census. He did mention that he came from County Cork and also mentioned Boss Croker but how much is true I don't know.

Regards.
ELAINE (nee Croker)

Robert CROKER of Woodville who married Catherine CONNELL of Cork spinster at Castletownroche on 2 July 1827. Administration of her estate was granted in 1841 in Cork Diocese when she was described as of Newtownards. Robert described as of Cork married secondly on 3 May 1842 Eliza widow of Capt Peter DOBSON of the 3rd Buffs . This Robert was a veterinary surgeon who went to America. Administration of his estate was granted in 1897 to his son Robert, noting Robert senior apparently died in 1875. There was an advertisement in The Times on 10 October 1882 seeking contact with his legal representatives. His son Robert the younger was recorded in the 1881 census at 23 Woodland Street, Portsea, Hampshire along with his wife Ann and children:
Whilheimina;
Richard; and
Mary Ann.

Regards

Nick

Wiliam Croker of Orange County North Carolina

I am searching for information on William Croker of Orange County. He was a free born colored man and married to a free born colored woman (possibly a Pettiford or ?) Also, it is possible that his mother or grandmother was Fay Croker. This family may have originated in Granville County North Carolina. William Croker died in Orange County ~ Jan/Feb 1847. He has three known children to survive him: Tempy Croker Archey, William Croaker, and John Nelson Croker.

I have a friend, who back in the 70's, collected brass. He
found a fire nozzle that had an engraving on it. Chief Edward F. Croker New York. I did some research and found who it had belonged to at one time. We became interested in
the history behind it and that led me to this research. Can anyone out there give me some info on his family?
Edward Croker had 2 sons, Edward, Jr. and Robert Van Wyck who was my grandfather - is this the same nozzle mentioned in more recents posts or are there others? My family had an extensive collection of fire fighting items from when Edward was chief, but they were lost after my father died. We are always looking for information about where they may have ended up.
As far as family info, Edward had an uncle, Richard Croker, who on one hand was Boss of Tammany Hall and on the other, a breeder of the great racehorse, Orby, the first Irish horse to win the English Derby at odds of 100:1! There are a couple books on Richard and info on Edward in any books on fire fighting, especially after 911 when one of his quotes about firemen was extensively used.
Hope this helps,
Susan Croker Fisher

I know Corinne married a man called "Tex" from Brownsville, TX on Aug 8, 1944 in Columbia, SC and they lived in Charlotte, NC most of her life. I'm also just noticed I spelled Corinne's name wrong in the previous email; it should be spelled "Corinne".

May I ask your family connection to Brenda Carole? It helps to know who the inquiry is from, so can contact you with updates that might be related.

Thanks,
Karen
