Greetings! I'm finally home from VT and have access to my notes. Right now I have Isaac Taylor married to Margaret Risler, who had a daughter Mary who married Thomas L. Cronce, who had Hiram W. Cronce who married Mary Slater, who had Cora Belle. Cora Belle was named after Mary's sister Cora Belle. I am in the process of trying to go further back from Isaac. Like I indicated before, I am not skilled in how to send you what I have on the Ancestry format. Would that be the best way? I look forward to hearing from you!

Bonnie

Hi Nancy: I am new to this so please be patient. Hiram and Mary are both my great grandparents, and my great-great grandparents. I am on vacation and do not have my records here, but I will communicate with you as soon as I have more information. I live in Hunterdon County and am now to the point of investigating information in Flemington and going to cemetaries. My mother is still living and remembers Aunt Cora with great affection.

More later. Bonnie

Hi Bonnie, As you may see from my reply to Paul - I am researching my husbands family and Thomas L. Cronce is his 3g grandfather, through Thomas and Mary's son Hiram W. and Hiram's daughter Cora Belle. So you are related as well!
Do you have any other information about siblings of Hiram and down, or on previous generations of Cronces? I am happy to share info on my husbands line. I, too, have hit a problem with the parents of Thomas. If I get a definite result I will update you.

Bonnie Summer

Maybe I can help to identify him.

The town of Isenburg was founded in 1699, and John Henry Kranz might be from the vicinity.

Tobias Schilfer of Dreieichenhain and his brother from Isenburg also came to America in 1709.

Where can I find the Hunter Lists?

John Cronces in NJ

Hi Paul An old national geographic map on the New England area shows a road from New York to Trenton in the late 1700's. I wonder if that road leads back to Johann Heinrich Krantz who arrived in NY in 1710. The Hunter Lists, an early geneological record, traces his family to the third generation. Among his children are Johannes Krantz bapt 18 Feb 1713, at West Camp Lutheran Churchbook. He married Elisabeth Klaarwater at the Montgomery Reformed Church, Montgomery Co, NY.He also married Anna Christina Melsbach at the Montgomery Church. Among his children are a Hendrich from the first marriage, and a Heinrich Christ from the second marriage. Johannes also had two brothers, Johann Wilhelm, who married Elisabetha Muller at the same Montgomery Reformed Church, and Johann Heinrich III born 22 Mar 1720. Can you fit the NJ Cronces's into this scheme. Can you fit the Henry's you mentioned into this scheme. All the Johann's I've mentioned are first generation children, sons, of the original Johann Heinrich. Their are three Johann's that appear in the second generation also. Who is the oldest NJ cronce that you are aware of, a patriach of sorts.
John Cronce in Wauwatosa, Wi.
PS I trace from the Heinrich Christ Krantz branch I think. He was a son of Johannes and Anna Melsbach. He had at least two children, a Johann Krantz b. abt Mar 1772, and a Henry Crans/Cranz b. abt 1781, who married Catherine Storm at the Shawangunk NY Dutch Reformed Church. This Johannes Krantz, had two cousins named Johannes and Johann. These are the second generation Johann's I mentioned.
Palatine connection

Yes, I do. The Hunter Lists are a geneological record made in NY in the late 1700's. That list traces the family of Johann Heinrich Kantz, whose family came from the town of Isenburg in the Palatine area. The family is traced through three generations. I t is my feeling that one of his grandchildren is the father of our Henry Crans who married Catherine Storm. They had a child, Jacob Storm Crans who is George Washington's father. I visited the Jacob Storm Crans/Crance/Cronce area in Westfield, Pa. A road is named Cronce Brook Rd and a school district is named Cronce School District #7 exist on old maps. When the original Johann Heinrich arrived in the colonies, a road already exixted from New York to Trenton, NJ on the Delaware river. I wonder if one of the sons of Johann Heinrich or perhaps a brother of Johann Heinrich travelled the 60 miles to Trenton and is the grand grandparent of the NJ branch of the family. I hope to discover that link some day.
John in Wawautosa, Wi

Hi John, yes I think we've got it. But when did Leroy get here and why Michigan? Maybe logging, hummm I dono. I did find a John Cronce from around mid 1800's, but I better look at my papers from the library. Im going to look for Leroy also, and see if he shows up in Michigan records. Leroy may have been young when he came to MI. I talked to my great aunt and she has a silver dollor from the fire that Norman was badly burned in. I told her I'd like to see it and take a picture of it. There's many old pictures, but I lack the people to identify everyone in them. I also need to get up to the Brown City Banner for information about Norman by looking at microfilm or whatever they have. Sorry the info is slow John, but there's so much information to look over and a lack of time. Do you think the Crans were part of the Palitine Emigrants?

Norman's father, George Washington, was born 1835, in Condor, NY. His next three brothers and sisters, Abram, Margaret and Henry were also born in NY. John Crans/Cronce was born in Westfield, Pa. He was a civil war veteran and died at at a VA hospital in West Philidephia in 1864.The next four children, Annice(Annie), Lydia, Daniel and Veletis were all born in Westfield Pa I believe. Then came Leroy born in 1854. He married Florence Finkner in 1877, in Addison, NY. Leroy died in Mich I believe, according to Eldon Hill of Peterburg, Mi. After Leroy, were born Sarah, Rodelpha(Della), William D. and Delbert. I am assuming Leroy is the grand patriach of Michigan Cronces along with Norman Grant. Do you agree? I had a census record for George Washington when he lived in Dunkirk area. It reported a child N.G. I later learned that was Norman Grant. I hope this adds up with your Michigan information.

William D., humm... I'm not sure but I thought it might be Leroy. Norman left Wisconsin after the disagreement with a brother he moved to the Midland area of Mi. In the paper it says that when he was a few months old when his parents moved from Dunkirk to Shawano, Wis. where he lived untill he was 24 years old. 1889 was married to Ada. He lived in Midland for two years then moved to Sanilac County. Two weeks after opening a restaurant in Brown City in burned. "Mr. Cronce was severely burned trying to save a girl from the blaze."After that it seemed he was never the same with health problems. But owned many different bussinesses and seemed to be sucsessfull. He was well known in the community it seems. As for as the uncle I'm not sure yet I'll look around. Was there a John D. in Midland? My uncle is helping me out now with my grandfathers old pictures and things he left behind.

The Wisconsin and Michigan groups trace through Jacob Crans/Cronce and his wife Catherine Labar. They are found in tioga Co PA town of westfield. The earlier family members reside is Montgomery and Duchess Co NY. They are found in the Dutch and German Reformed Churches. However, there were three John Cronces that lived in a part of Amwell Twp. of Hunterdon Co., NJ, that became Raritan Twp. in 1838, and I so far have not been able to tell which John was my gr. gr. grandfather. I have found a few Henry Cronces in Hunterdon Co. as well. Paul

Jean, can you forward a copy of the GW death certificate? or can you inform me where to obtain a copy? Roger Cronce recently provided a picture of George Washington with Myron Cronce. George's wife Caroline is also in the photo. Have you seen it? What a treasure? My search is stuck of jacob and Catherine's father Henry and his wife Catherine Storm. Henry was known as Henry Crans. The only information I've located on Henry is a baptism record for Jacob Storm Crans listing Henry and Catherine as his parents. Jacob Storm Crans becomes Jacob Storm Cronce on the 1850 and 1860 Federal census records for the town of Westfield in Tioga Co Pa.

Hello Paul. Sorry I have no information about your family. I do however have a nephew, Paul Cronce, my brother's kid. I also discovered a Paul Cronce who was a chief petty officer in the USN and died early in WWII. He lived in the St. Louis, Mo. area. Small world. Your Henry search is similiar to mine. I trying to locate information about Henry Crans and his wife Catherine Storm. Their son Jacob Crans/Cronce is my great, great grandfather. Henry was a common name in the Cronce clan from the earliest times 1710-Johann Heinrich Krantz. Good luck with your search.

Hi Wade, Saw your message today. I am interested in more information about Norman's family. His children. I have a pretty good handle on most of George Washington's sons and daughters. Recently I acquired a picture of GW with Norman's brother Myron. What a neat surprise. Have you any photos of Norman? Hope to see you some time. John in Wauwatosa, Wi. PS I'm still hunting for information about Henry and Catherine Crans. Henry was GW's grandfather. Have you ever diskcovered any?

Cronce. Does this all jive with you? Or did I make a mistake? I'm just trying to figure out were the Cronce name is from! I have traked down a Johann Heinrich Crans, born 1686, from Palatine Germany.

Is Earl a son of Leroy? Leroy was another brother of George W. and William. Jacobs father was Henry and Catheridne Storm. His full name was Jacob Storm. The oldest relative may be Johann Heinrich Krantz who arrived in New York in 1709. The family migrated up the Hudson river to the Mohawk River and out into western New York and then Western Penslyvania before some came to Wis and others went to Michigan and California. Abraham the oldest son went to Calif. William and George Washington came to Wisconsin. Leroy went to Michigan. Henry's father and mother have been the most difficult for me to verify. Nice to meet you.
