crones sisters in 1870 census

1870 census for baltimore city shows crones: mary 25, lena 22, and ellen 20 born in virginia and living in household of cornelia dietz (name is misspelled diets/deets. also living with cornelia are her 2 children at bottom of list and her sister, julia shular, name also misspelled. should be shuler. shuler siblings were all born in virginia to conrad schuler and mary green. trying to determine whether there was a relationship between shulers, crones, dietz. cornelia was a recent widow and had been a dress maker (returned to it later) so guess it may be possible she took in the sisters to help pay rent. during this period it was easier for women to manage by working or re marrying in baltimore after the war rather than in defeated virginia.
thanks for any help. s

any relation to crones sisters born virginia according to 1870 census? mary 25, lena 22, ellen 20. they are living with cornelia dietz, name misspelled as diets/deets. julia shular, name misspelled, should be shuler is cornelia's youngest sister. all the shuler siblings were born in va. to conrad schuler and mary green. as cornelia is a recent widow - those are her two children at bottom of list in census - and was and would return to dress making, it could be possible she took the crones in to help pay her rent. am wondering if there is a relationship between the shulers and crones or dietz?
thanks for help. s

Re: Crone surname

Edward Crone the Man That Never Was

Patrick Dugan and Debra Lenihan/Lenaghan arrived in Scotland from County Down Ireland with their family and others, around the time of the Great Potato Famine 1849, settling in Glasserton, Wigtownshire.
Marriage Certificate
Their eldest son Daniel Dugan/Duggan/Dougan married Agnes Cronney on October Fourteenth 1855 at Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire. (there are so many spelling changes in the records)
The marriage (after banns) was solemnized between them according to the Rites & Ceremonies of the Roman Catholic Church in Scotland.
Their residences were given as Slate Heugh, Glasserton, the home of Daniel’s parents and Appleby (farm) Glasserton where the parents of Agnes resided. Daniel was listed as a bachelor, Farm Servant, aged 24
Born & Registered on 3 February 1831, near Castlewilliam (sic Castlewellan) County Down, Ireland.
His wife Agnes was listed as a spinster, Domestic Servant, aged 23,
Birthplace, and when and where registered
Born & Registered on 12 March 1832 at Portwilliam, Wigtownshire, Scotland

Parents Names and Rank or Occupation
Patrick Dougan, Farm Labourer and Deorah Dougan, maiden name Lenachan (sic)
Patrick Croney, Farm Labourer and Mary Croney, maiden name Croney

Officiating Minister
J. J. Buckley RCC

Witnesses
John Cronney and Mary Cronney (sic)

Registered 22 October 1855 James B. Dill Assistant Registrar.

There is a lot more to the story of this family which would be unknown to people in the United States who no doubt remain believing that they are somehow related to a family named Crone.
At Glasserton, Wigtownshire, Scotland Edward Dugan was born on the 16 Aug 1856 the son of Daniel Dugan/Duggan and his wife Agnes Cronie/Cronny. He was baptised on the 21st Aug.1856 at Newton Stewart RC Church, the sponsors were John Flanagan/Flanighan and Cate Duggan.
It is believed the sponsors were Catherine Duggan, the sister of Daniel and her future husband John Flanagan, the reason for the surname duplication being the fact so many different spellings were given in the records and I want the reader to understand this.
Despite an extensive search for the death or whereabouts of Daniel Dugan after the birth of his son Edward (under numerous spellings) I am unable to say what became of him.
When the 1861 census was recorded in Wigtownshire, Scotland Edward Dugan was listed at Appleby Farm with his mother and grandparents.
1861 census Scotland
Address: Appleby Farm
Name Relationship Age Marital Status Place of Birth
Patrick Cronie Head 58 married born Ireland
Mary Cronie Wife 50 married born Ireland Agnes Dugan dau. 28 married born Mochrum Wigtownshir Edward Dugan gr/son 4 born Glasserton,Wigtownshir Francis Cronie son 18 unmarried born Mochrum, Wigtownshir Ann Cronie dau. 16 unmarried born Mochrum.Wigtownshire

Death Entry Agnes Dougan died aged 39 (of valvular disease of heart) married to Daniel Dougan and daughter of Patrick Cronie, agricultural labourer, and Mary, maiden surname Cronie. Informant: Patrick Cronie, father. BMD Glasserton.

Monument Inscription – Mochrum Kirkyard
Erected to the memory of Patrick Cronie who died at Craiglemine 13 August 1880 aged 72 years Also his wife Mary Cronie who died at Whithorn 21 September 1886 aged 78 years.
Also his daughter Agnes Cronie or Dougan who died at Appleby 6 February 1870 aged 39 years.
(Edward would have been around 13 years old when his mother died)

I feel sure I once came across Edward recorded in the 1871 census of Scotland, after the death of his mother, still living with his grandparents but now recorded under his grandparent’s surname of Cronney.
(This surname like many other Irish surnames were given different spellings in other records)
Like the Dugan’s, the Cronny family were also from County Down in Ireland, but had arrived at a much earlier period, and quite a bit more is known about this family.
I think it would be fair to say that after the loss of his father Daniel, for whatever reasons, and the early death of his mother in 1870 and being recorded under his grandparents surname of Cronie (sic) Edward may have been quite confused as to where he fitted into the scheme of things.
The 1881 Census of Scotland does show an Edward Crone
Dwelling:96 North Woodside Road
Census Place:	Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
Source:	FHL Film 0203658 GRO Ref Volume 644-8 EnumDist 52 Page 1
Marr	Age	Sex	Birthplace
Andrew LIVEY M	38 M	Shettleston, Lanark, Scotland
Rel:	Head
Occ:	Van Driver
Agnes LIVEY M	24 F	Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
Rel:	Wife
Edward CRONE U	24 M	Glassarton, Wigtown, Scotland
Rel:	Boarder
Occ:	Groom

It has always been my belief that the man in the 1881 census was in fact Edward Duggan as suggested
in the following Marriage Registration for Scotland

Marriage Entry
Date: December 1, 1882 at Paisley Road Free Church, 111 Eaglesham Street, Govan
Groom: Edward Crone, age 26, bachelor, coachman, 22 Park Circus, Glasgow
Father: Daniel Crone, farm labourer, deceased
Mother: Agnes Crone, m.s. Mother’s name and place of birth: Given as Agnes ? , Scotland (both correct but clearly his mother’s maiden surname was not known. Edward had a half brother but I doubt he ever knew this, the children of his half brother also ended up in the USA but this is another story for another time, Kindest Regards, Paddy.

Hello Claire

Only just picked this message up a year later! My Crones (and also those of IDELLARCRO - we are distant cousins) are supposed to have originated from Cork around 1800 and before. Dennis Crone, my 3xg-grandfather, was supposed to have come from Kinsale (probably born abt 1800) and he was with the British coastguard service. This is the only info we have. Does this name tally with any of your Crone information?

Many thanks for any help.

Clare

Rev. Lambie. wit. Angus McKinnon
and John Tweedie, both of Vaughan.

And then,
http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/e/e328/e008183271.jpg
on the 1851 census, above, Janet Wilson, a widow, has her
mother living with her, a Susannah Weir, born 1802 Scotland.

And, according to my records, Alexander Wilson married
Agnes (Ann) Faint 24 November 1840 Scarborough.

What ship did this family come on and when?
warm regards,
Linda

lgouliquer at yahoo.com

Esther Crone was related to me. She was my Great Aunt. I was able to get some family history from her about 2 year before she passed. I'm not sure how absolutely accurate it was but I have family members who comfirm a loy of it. If you are interested in sharing information with me you may post here or e-mail me.

My Crone line goes back to Germany, the Westfalen district.
I have about 50 Crone relatives from that area that I have been able to confirm.
FamilySearch.org shows many Crone families in that area to the 1400's.
