My ggrandmother was a Cronkrite. Family records show
Henry Cronkrite b. Dec. 7, 1772. Henry m.Amelia on Jan.1.1794.
Amelia b. Feb.1,1774. First child Saley b.Aug.2,1796 and
d.Nov.27,1796. Second child Henry the second b.Oct.22,1797.
Eight more children:Lawring,John,Lyman,William, Orrilla,Mary,
Amanda and Sena.

I am researching my mother's family. Her maiden name is Conkrite and going back through the generations the name took on various spellings and has made it difficult to trace. Our segment has been in Chemung County, New York for many generations, the furthest I have been able to trace back is Henry & Lydia (Cray) Cronkright. Henry was born in Veteran, Chemung, NY in 1807.

Any family information would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt. Brud J. Cronkrite, 22, of Spring Valley, Calif., died May 14 in Baghdad, Iraq, from injuries he sustained on May 13, in Karbala when a rocket-propelled grenade fired into a building near him during a security patrol. Cronkrite was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 37th Armor, 1st Armored Division, Friedberg, Germany.

The incident is under investigation.

Rouses Point — Robert Glendon Cronkrite, 76, died Monday April 3, 2000, at his home in Rouses Point.

He was born in Rouses Point on June 11, 1923, the son of James and Gertrude (Lord) Cronkrite.

He worked at D&H Railroad and worked over 19 years at Railway Express. He was employed by Anchor Motor Freight for 15 years and owned his own trucking business.

Robert was in the U.S. Army and served in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion 912, serving 50 years and was a past commander. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 1418, the Masonic Lodge 237 and the Rouses Point Fire Department.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, James and Allyson Cronkrite of Chaumont and Robert J. Cronkrite of Ogdensburg; two daughters and a son-in-law, Judy and Loren Hazen of North Hero, Vt. and Kathryn Keable of Plattsburgh; two sisters, Kathryn Marnes and Jennie Hoag, both of Rouses Point; and his companion, Beverly Lavare; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Geraldine (Gratton); two daughters, Joy Racine and Karen Bombardier; three brothers, James Arnold Cronkrite, George Milton Cronkrite and Grant Loren Cronkrite.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 4, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 5, at 10 a.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point, with the Rev. John Hunn officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Champlain at a later date in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of the North Country.

Della Gardner was married to William E. Gardner.
William and Della in the 1910 census in Veteran, Chemung County. They have Virn born:1898 Frank b: 1903 and Clifford b: 1906. Della is born in NY her Father in PA.
Della and William was no longer in 1920
Della married Lloyd Bogart and she died in 7 Oct 1940

Marion was living with sister in Della in 1920

I, too, am looking for a Cronkrite ancestor: Harriet Cronkrite, born circa 1826 in Quebec and most likely a Loyalist refugee from one of the 13 colonies.
She married William Wood and died at age 95 in 1921 in Meaford, Ontario.
