Re: William CROOM married Sophia JAMES 1870 ish

Hi Deb,
Wiliam CROOM(1789/91) married Sophia JAMES(1810)
in Wimborne Minster in 1829. William may have been married before, possibly in Gloucester area where I believe he comes from. He and Sophia lived in Little Lonnen, Colehill, Wimborne Minster until his death in 1846 - Sophia remarried a George GUY of Little Lonnen in 1849. William and Sophia had: Ursula, Maria, Sophia, Charles, Henry and Caroline. My wife is a CROOM and comes from Henry's line. William it is believed had James, Edward, John and Sarah by his first marriage(wife not known). I have no further info. If you come across William's ascendants, please let me know on grcbookswa@dodo.com.au
regards,
Alex
The most informative for American Crooms is at http://www.johncroom.com/ He details the decendants of Daniel Croom of VA and the emigration of his sons to NC in the mid-1700s. As you will see, he has painstakingly worked to include primary source verification on all names.

John A. Croom married Mary Elizabeth Mott in 1851 and had two sons, William Moore Croom, b. 1855, and Washington Dorsey Croom, b. 1857. After Mary Elizabeth died about 1859,the boys lived with their grandparents, William C. Mott and his wife, Mary. I descend from Wm. C Mott, and am trying to find who the parents or siblings of Wm. C. Mott were. Wm. C. was born in 1801. I am hoping someone in the Croom line will have information as to who the Wm. C. Mott relatives were. I will be happy to share any information I have. Thank you in advance for your help.

There are 7 Croom children ( out of 9 )living. We are
located in and around the Memphis,Tn area. Our lineage goes to Hiram,Ab,Hiram(M.D.),Benjah,Major,
Daniel,and we think Joel-of Limerick,Ireland- from
the history we were told by my father (hiram) with stories handed down from his father (Ab) and his
grandfather (Hiram). There is a definite Irish connection there somewhere, but in looking at the geneology it seems we had an Irish grandmother,
and great-grandmother, so maybe it could be from
them, and not the Crooms. I know Croom is supposed
to be U.K. but through the centuries, I am thinking they
changed their name, just because it linked them to Irish heritage, and well, it was not popular with the English, who overtook their lands.

I am told that the 25 marker ($100 kit) we have chosen will go back 29 generations to find a common ancestor. Are you in the United States or United Kingdom? My Daddy said that we were English on his Groom/Grooms side of the family. One book called FAMILY TRACES connects the line to Joseph Groom out of Charleston SC who was from Southampton. I don't know the geography of England, but this would have been about 1720. Immigration was about 1750. I don't know how reliable that source is, however, as some data is also duplicated in the CROOM website and lineage of John Croom of North Carolina.

John H. Howell Marrying "?" Croom

I'm looking for any information on a John H.Howell marrying a Croom. All i know about them is that they lived in North Carolina between 1799 and 1813 then John and family (Major C.Howell b.1799, Jesse C. Howell b.1802, Daniel C. Howell b.1812, and possibly a Susannah Howell b.1813) appear in Maury Co. Tenn. around 1815.
The last record i have found on John H.Howell was in 1832 when he signed Daniel's marriage Cert. I've never found his age on any records nor have i found his wife's first name. I do have reason to believe it could be a Susannah Croom but am only guessing right now.
If anyone could help any at all please contact me at lhowell@wk.net (those are lower case "L")
Thanks !
Don

Don't know if you have ever heard of this book. It is by Doris C. Outlaw and was published about 1957. Probably list a couple hundred family trees for the Crooms. Looks like everything ties back to Daniel Croom at some point. I will research your Jesse Croom and let you know what I find.

Thanks.. Mike Davis

Other than the 1850 Madison co., Tn census, does anyone know if William Croom actually had a daughter named Caroline? I think, but do not know for certain that the "Caroline A." listed as Williams daughter was in fact a mistake by the census taker, and she was actually Samuel Luckeys daughter. Can anyone help? I need to see the 1840 census of the William Croom household to see if Caroline is listed....she would be about 3 yrs. in 1840.

If you type Madison County, Tennessee into your search bar, it will bring up several sites in Madison co. One site is either surnames or families. In alphabetical order, the surnames are listed. Jesse Croom is listed. John Croom compiled information regarding the Croom family history. I think he can be reached at familytree@johncroom.com. I am not a Croom, but my family was interconnected with William Croom in Jackson, Tn circa 1850. (I am trying to determine if there was a Caroline A. Croom b. circa 1836 or1837 to William Croom who is in the 1850 Madison Co., Tn census.) I need a Croom researcher to tell me if William did indeed have a daughter, "Caroline". Good luck!

Do you have Elizabeth Croom b. Duplin Co Nc 1750married William Maxwell b 1747 Ireland to NC who was killed by the State of NC for supporting the Tories? They had the following children: Elizabeth married Lewis Gilstrap, Zilphia married Isaiah Smith, John Croom Maxwell married Zilphia Stroud (her mother was Hannah Croom) abd Abel Maxwell. I am leaning toward Abel son of Daniel because of similar given names.

I am seeking documentation that Major Croom had only one daughter. Several very significant facts point to my GGGG grandmother Elizabeth Croom as being a daughter of Major Croom, also.
*I have documented data for the following:
*She was an Irishwoman from Dobbs Co b. abt 1751.
*No other Croom living in Dobbs at the time would be the age to have a daughter born in 1751, except Major Croom.
*She married Wm Maxwell II (b. 1749 Ireland) in Dobbs Co in 1768.
*They had the following children all Croom names: Elizabeth (my line), John Croom Maxwell, Zilpha, and Abel.
* The children of Wm Maxwell and Elizabeth Croom named their children Croom names ,also.
*They migrated to Duplin Co NC where Major owned land.
*Wm Maxwell is mentioned in deeds of Duplin Co with Major Croom who owned land in Duplin and Dobbs. *Wm Maxwell's father Wm Maxwell I is mentioned in early deeds of Dobbs Co. along with Major Croom/ Thanks for any documented information on the children of Major Croom.I have plenty on the sons, none on the daughters.
