"In the matter of the last will + testament of Robert Hall deceased as a will of Real + personal property Herkimer County Surrogates Office Ss: Richard Herndon of the town of Newport in the county of Herkimer being duly Sworn + Examined doth depose + testify that the instrument in writing in the hands of the Surrogate of said county purporting to be the last will + testament of Robert Hall deceased was delivered to this deponent by said Robert Hall for safe keeping + that this deponent kept the same safely until after the death of said Robert when this deponent handed the same to Benjamin Crosset Enclosed in a sealed letter directed to the Surrogate of Herkimer County and this deponent verily believes the said instrument to be the identical last will + testament of the said Robert Hall deceased + that the same hath been in no respect altered or changed since it was Executed + published by the testator or since it was delivered to this deponent - Richard Herndon - Sworn Examined and subscribed this twelfth day of December 1842 before me Lauren Ford Surrogate.

I ROBERT HALL of the town of Newport being weak in body but of sound Disposing mind + memory and blessed be God for the same do make + publish his my last will and testament in manner + form following to wit-
First- I order + direct all my just debts and charges paid out of my personal Estate + if that prove insufficient then I order + authorise my Executor hereinafter named to make sale of so much of my real Estate as will make up such dificiency.

Secondly-I give + bequeath to my Beloved wife Joanna the use of all my personal + real Estate after the payment of my debts + charges as aforesaid so long as she shall live:

Thirdly-I give devise + bequeath to my sons and daughters to wit-Hazard Hall, William Hall, Robert Hall, Isaiah Hall, Jonathan Boss a son of my wife Joanna, Amey the wife of Erastus Coy Polly the wife of William Worden Sally the widow of Henry Austin, Joanna the wife of Isaac Laughton Elizabeth the wife of Benjamin Hall Susannah the wife of Ira Morey + Lydia the wife of Benjamin Crossett all the rest and Remainder of my personal + real Estate which may be left at the decease of said wife Joanna to be divided between them share + share alike to have and to hold the same to them their heirs and assigns forever - + I do hereby order that my said daughter Susanna and her husband Ira Morey shall have their share of the real Estate set off to them at the East side of my farm beginning at the road + Extending back on McLaughlins line the length of the lot.

Fourthly + lastly - I do hereby nominate constitute + appoint my son Hazard Hall and my son in law Benjamin Crossett Executors of this my last will + testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made + in case the use of my personal + real estate is not sufficient for the support of my wife as aforesaid then my Executors are hereby authorised to make sale of the personal or real Estate to raise money for her support + maintainance. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand + seal this 3 day of October 1842. Thank you for taking the time to write. I would be pleased to receive information, pictures. I also have a picture of Minerva Sweet. I can't find much on her so far but would be happy for you to have what I have. Her husband (Powell) lived with her son Russell (and therefore my grandma)after she died.
Please forgive if I missed this - now I do have your email too?
One side of the family for me are the Crandalls and they go back so far. Yet now I see how the Crossetts are also deeply rooted in American History.
Its an exciting adventure to travel through history isn't it?

Good to hear from cousins. To send you some pictures I'll need your email address. A cousin in California sent me a lot of things on the Crossett/Simpson/Hall families plus a diary written by a woman who knew them all. I'll ask her permission to share it with you. I'm very interested in Minerva Sweet Crossett, the wife of Martin Powell. I have very little on her and do not even know where she is buried. Do you have anything?

Hi, My great grandfather was Russell D Crossett. Yes his middle name we have as Dunning. His daughter Myrtle was my grandmother. Myrtle wrote a little paper about her childhood with Russell traveling around Nebraska. His two girls Mrytle and Blanche also homesteaded in either North or South Dakota. I have several pictures of Russell (or Russel?) including one with his son Martin and his grandson Russell. I'm still just starting my tree but would be happy for you to join.

Crossett, James, proprietor of the Nelson house, Herkimer, is a native of Herkimer, a farmer's son, and lived on a farm until twenty-two years old. He then embarked in the meat business for five years, since which time he has been in the hotel business. He conducted the Waverly house, Herkimer, a leading hotel in Middleville, and the Nelson house now owned by him for eight years. He is a Mason and a strong Republican. His people have lived in this State for generations, and his father, still living, is a leading farmer of the town. Mr. James Crossett married Helen Hawkins, and has three daughters, the oldest of whom is the wife of Mr. B. Waters, of Little Falls.

Guy Crosset, editor of the Caddo Hearld, and Miss Daisy Baxter, a boarding pupil of the Presbyterian College at Durant, eloped from that institution Friday. The president and teachers of the college, aided by the entire force of city officers, were hot on the trail and came near catching the lovers on several occasions, but they succeeded finally in evading their pursuers and were married. Thank you for responding; will get back to this a bit later this morning and will probably be back in contact.

I am able now to access the Crossett web-site because the link you gave is a good one; the other one was not. My interest in Crossett is only because of any connections to "Macklin", Macklem, Maklem or any other spelling.

Andrew is the first of my ancestors of this surname and useful genealogical information on him has been hard to find. So best I can do is try to link up all of those "Macklins" by any spelling to see how they fit and hopefully find descendants who can help. Elizabeth is one that I have not been able to connect to any of those families I have on my database.

Is there anyone who is descended from William Crossett who came over with his mother Martha and who married (Crossett Genealogy) Elizabeth "Macklin"? I have not yet been able to connect her to my Macklem families of any spelling, also of Pelham, Hampshire, MA.

BTW: I, too, have tried that link for the suggested web-site on crosset genealogy and all I get is some page about home mortgages, something with a home.net in the address... What gives??? I have tried it more than once and always end up on that same web-site. I clicked on the link in the message; I copied/pasted in my browser and it all comes up the same.

I someone has access to the Crossett Genealogy by Miss Frances A, Plimpton, 1937, I would really appreciate having copies of the title page and pages 3 & 4.

Many years ago when I found this book in a library (I not longer have access to any of them), it was, I believe, on fiche and the only copies I could make are really dark and some of the information on the pages are very light.

I am interested in what it says about the connection to the Macklin family ; I am sure that somehow the Elizabeth mentioned in this book of of the same family I am and have been trying to expand on now, for years. It was only recently when I did more work on my Clarks of Pelham and other places that I discovered they went from Scotland to Ireland about the same time, and possibly came to America together or about the same time and also that the name which I have found as Mecklam, Macklam, and so on is Mac Lean (Maclean) which gives me more to work on now. Thanks for your help!

She died 23, Dec 1918 in Cedar Branch, Arkansas. My information is that they had 7 children. James, Floyd, Ross, Ether, Evalyn, Agnes & Bera.

Cyrus Proctor married Fanny Crossett on August 30,1846 in Lewis,Essex County,NY.This is mentioned in the Northern New York Historical Newspaper.These people were my gggrandparents.

My gggrandparents were Cyrus and Fanny Crossett-Proctor.They married on August 30,1846 in Lewis,Essex County,NY.Fanny was born May 4,1825 in Duxbury,Washington County,Vermont.Fanny Crossett-Proctor died abt.1902 in Essex County,NY.Fanny's parents( my ggggrandparents)were,Hezekiah and Betsey Wheeler-Crossett.

I received information...Fanny Crossett married Cyrus Proctor on August 8,1846 at Lewis,Essex County,NY by Squire Wilder who was the sheriff.It's mentioned in the Northern New York Historical Newspaper-Essex County Republican dated September 10,1896.

13 Jan 1856 Greenup Co., KT Sarah Crossett born 1800/4 Ireland died 10 May 1895 Greenup Co., KY married James Osborn. She is in the 1870 and 1880 census Greenup Co., KY. John L. Crosset is in the 1850 census with Mary 26 born PA, and Sarah age 3 born MA. I cannot find Sarah Crosset/Crossett born 1800/4 Ireland in the 1850 census. No one named Crossett/Crosset/Crosett/Croset in the 1840 KY census. Any ideas?

Everything seems to point to the name being derived as a Scotch-Irish version of the French du Crozat. However, there is Crosetti in Italian, and I found a Crossett in Elizabethan England.

It was in 1855 census of Lewis,Essex County,NY with Eran,Isabel,Edwin,____tina Crossett.3 houses down were,Cyrus,Fanny,Ira,Jane,Harriet,Jacob,John Proctor.Looks more and more like Crossett instead of Cornell.

You may already know this but on the 1850 census Cyrus and Fannie Proctor live two properties away from Eran Crossett. I would appreciate it if you would send me your Hezekiah stuff on the side.

I have... A Record of the Births and deaths of Hezekiah H. Crossetts Children:

Fanny W. Crossett born May 4,1825
Eran Crossett was born August 17,1826
Jane Crossett April 30th 1828

My gggrandparents Cyrus and Fanny(Crossett/Cornell) Proctor were listed in 1850's( I believe) census in Lewis Essex County,NY with children Ira and Eleanor.Below this family were the Powers family.The wife's name was Jane.Jane Crossett( d/o Hezekiah and Betsey Wheeler-Crossett) married a Charles?Powers.Information was sent to me that abt.1840's Cyrus and Fanny married possibly in Lewis in the county of Essex.
If I can prove that Fanny is a Crossett( death record,marriage record)then I would have solved Fanny's maiden name.

I did however find and received a death record of one of Cyrus and Fanny Proctor's children.His name was Jerry"Zurry" Proctor.Born in 1860 in North Hudson,Essex County,NY.Married Elizabeth Cobb,married Clara.Jerry died 1928 in Keene,NY buried at Norton Cemetery.Fanny's maiden name was listed as Crossit.Fanny Crossit( Crossett) was born May 4,1825 in Duxbury,Washington County,VT.As was Fanny Cornell,born May 4,1825 in Vermont,place and parents unknown.

I received information that somewhere along the line,the letters in Crossett may have been mislead to believing that it was Cornell( ex.Corssett).The lettering back then looked different than they do today.

Any additional information is appreciated.

There are four Cornells in VT in 1830. Only John has a girl 5 or less. He is in Franklin Co. So, Fanny Cornell is possible. Hezekiah Crossett also was there in Duxbury in 1830 and had two girls under 5. He moved to Essex Co. and is there in 1840. His brother James had a girl in 1845 named Fanny. Chances are she's a Crossett, although no definitive proof in my database.

My ggUncle was Zury Proctor born Essex County,NY s/o Cyrus and Fannie Cornell-Proctor of Essex County,NY.I found as I was searching through Northern New York Historical Newspaper,Jerry"Zurry" Proctor born May 13,1860 North Hudson,Essex County,NYs/o Syrus and Fannie Crossit -Proctor.Jerry married Elizabeth Cobb.Jerry died Feb 23,1928 buried at Norton Cem.son of the late Cyrus Proctor of Elizabethtown and later North Hudson,Essex County,NY.

I also received information about Fannie Crossett -Proctor born May 1825 VT died 1902 North Hudson,Essex County,NY buried next to her husband,Cyrus.At the age of 25 Fannie is listed living next door to Charles and Jane (Crossett) Powers.Fannie had a sister named Phebe and several other siblings.Children of Hezekiah born in MA and Betsey(Wheeler) Crossett born in NH.

I have no idea where Cornell comes in but I have a strong belief that Fannie Crossett is definitely my gggrandmother who married my gggrandfather Cyrus Proctor.My gggrandmother was born 1825 VT and my gggrandfather was born 1824 VT.

Fannie moved to NY with family.Fannie W.age 25 years born in VT living next door to Charles and Jane(Crossett) Powers.

I found Jerry "Zurry" Proctor born May 13,1860 North Hudson,Essex County,NY son of Syrus Proctor and Fannie Crossit.Jerry "Zurry" Proctor married Elizabeth Cobb.Jerry "Zurry" Proctor died Feb 23,1928 buried in Norton Cem.son of the late Cyrus Proctor of Elizabethtown and later North Hudson,Essex County,NY.The reason why Fannie wasn't listed is due to the fact she died Dec 1902 North Hudson,Essex County,NY.

Maybe you can be of some help.I was searching through the Northern New York Historical Newspaper and I come acrossed a Jerry"Zurry" Proctor who was born 1863 Essex County,NY.It mentions his parents as being Syrus and Fannie Crossit Proctor of North Hudson,Essex County,NY.Jerry married a woman by the name of Elizabeth Cobb.I received information that Fannie's last name was spelled Crossett who lived next door to Charles and Jane(Crossett) Powers.Fannie's parents were Hezekiah and Betsey(Wheeler) Crossett.The family had moved from Duxbury,Vt to Lewis,Essex County,NY.

The problem I have is my gggrandparents were Cyrus and Fannie Cornell Proctor of Essex County,NY one of their son's name was what I thought named "Zury" come to find out by searching the Northern New York Historical Newspaper,"Zury" was a nickname,his name was actually Jerry Proctor.And,I can't figure out where Cornell came from.

I am really confused because I have him as the father of an ancester of mine and the trees that I have seen have John(James) Crosier as a son. One tree (Kincom Family Tree) has one girl and 2 boys named Crossett and 4 Crosier boys as he and Martha Hamilton's children.....others just have John Crosier. One says this of Wm S Crossett: "Scots-Irish descent
immigrated to Boston in 1716 arriving on August 4 (Genealogy ofthe
Hamilton Family by Salome Hamilton, 1894)".

But I am wondering how the Crosiers got in there.

My Surnames reflect my downline including the wives surnames.

Yes, I have seen that. My line goes down through John. I have also seen places where they say the Crosiers are of Scottish descent and there evidently were Crosiers in Scotland as I went through my Scottish places and that pans out. However, this seems more real to me because my great grandmother always said they were of French descent. This has got me going on this subject. I do not at this time have a membership in Genealogy.com but next month when I have more time, I will get at least a month's subscription and do some research on there. It seems to have some information.
