Hello, yes there is a connection. Elizabeth Vance is a sister to John Ennis Vance and they were children of James Vance and Margaret Ennis. The Crossons intermarried several times with the Vance families. I have much information on the James Vance family and his parents, Joseph Vance and Nancy Bradley. I am looking for descendants of Nancy P. Vance, John Ennis' daughter who married Francis (Frank) Crosson in Colorado.

Re: Charlie Elliott Crosson

I believe Charlie died in 1951 in Minneapolis. I am sure that if you correspond with the local newspaper, the Minneapolis Messanger, they can supply you with a copy of the obituary.

I grew up in Minneapolis from age 2 until 12. And I left Minneapolis in 1950. Charlie was a man of awem mystery, etc. to us children. I can vividly remember being in the front year of the Presbyterian Church when Charlie was headed down town. He always had his binoculars on a strap across his chest. Most of the time he was dressed in uniform and always walked with a cane. The campaign hat was very impressive. He usually greeted me with something like "Hello, old timer."

We also delighted in walking by his house. There was a fence around the house and a gate at the end of the gravel driveway. I can remember a very old car in the garage, but have no idea what it was.

We was a local personality and somewhat of a character. I can remember when my folks took me out to see his gravesite which he spent several year in building and preparing. He also left detailed instructions as to how his funeral should be conducted.

Hope this is of some help or interest to you.

Dave Hubler

Alfred K.Crosson b. Aug 1829 appeared in the 1870-1910 Hornby, Steuben County, NY censuses. He had three children with wife Jerusha Wolverton and I have the descendants well
documented. I have not been able to find Alfred before 1870 however and am seeking information on his roots.

There is a James (1795-1866) and Sarah (1791-1863) Crosson buried in Pioneer Cemetery, Big Flats, Chemung County, NY who seem likely candidates but I have not been able to locate them in the 1850 or 1860 censuses. They were in 1840
Orange, Steuben County.

Does anyone have any information on this family?

Descendants of Alfred K. Crosson
1 Alfred K.

Samuel R. Crosson is my g-g-grandfather. My ancestry comes through Samuel Isam to James Samuel and William Anderson Crosson. I don't have much from the Crosson side before S.R., I'm still looking ... . For Margaret Lebo, there's been quite a bit. Her parents were Isham Lebow (there are 3 or 4 different spellings for the last name) b. 5 Feb 1808 in Claiborne County, TN and d. 10 Aug 1886 in Blount County, TN. Her mother is Sarah Ann Moore, b. 27 May 1808 and d. 2 Aug 1888 (same locations as Isham). From there Isham's parents were John J Lebow and Mary J Jennings, then John J's parents were Henry Lebow and Mary Polly Blair. It goes farther back to Berks County, Pennsylvania; here's a link I found that is helpful: http://www.rootsweb.com/~paberks/ I'm a rookie at this stuff but I'd be glad to attempt to send what I have. I would be interested in anything else you have on the Crosson side, You can respond to either address tcrosson@lexington.k12.mo.us or crossons@cebridge.net

Tim Crosson

My name is Charlotte Crosson. My ggrandfather was Thomas Crosson who emigrated to Canada from Ireland about 1848. One of his daughters also named Charlotte born in 1864 married Benjamin Krupp. They lived in Stratford, Ontario moving to Saginaw, MI and then on to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1914 where they lived for 5 years. I don't know why they moved to Texax and am wondering if by any fluke your Sara Ann was a sister of my Thomas and it was a family connection that drew Charlotte and Ben to Texas. Any information would be wonderful and thank you.

Charlotte

Hello, has anyone heard of a GEORGE PORTER CROSSON? He was my ggfather. He was born in the US abt 1880/1877. His siblings were FRED, BILL, EFFIE AND MINNIE. George was the youngest. George settled in South Africa in the 1900's until his death in 1942.
Hello,

I am searching for any information regarding John Cornelius Crosson, my great-grandfather. My information on him is rather sketchy. Here is what I do know:

He may or may not have been born in Ireland, but at some point it seems likely that he either went to Ireland or returned to Ireland. I do not have an exact birthdate, but I know that his son, Michael Francis Crosson, was born 07111880 in Kingston, MA. John Cornelius Crosson married Mary Elizabeth Herlihy, also listed as being from Ireland.

I am new to this website, so any information provided would be considered extremely helpful.

Sincerely,

Matt Crosson
m.crosson@snhu.edu
1212 Smyth Road
Hooksett, NH 03106

Dear Stephen,

I read your 2004 post on Frank Crosson and was wondering if you had found any information out. Samuel Isam Crosson is my GGrandfather, through James Samuel and William Anderson (my father). I was not aware that there was a Frank, but I'm just getting started with my research and haven't had much luck yet. I do have Ellen CROSSON DOUGHTY, Ethel CROSSON BANKS, Marion Ransom CROSSON, Charles Cecil CROSSON, and, of course, James Samuel CROSSON. Most of them stayed in the Crab Orchard, Williamson County area, near or on the homestead of Samuel R. and Margaret LEBOW CROSSON. Cecil moved west and lived in the Sacramento area, and James lived mainly in Jacksonville, Morgan County, Illinois.

I look forward to hearing what info you may have. You may contact me at tcrosson@lexington.k12.mo.us or crossons@cebridge.net

Sincerely,
Tim Crosson

I am looking for a Crosson family from Philadelphia. According to the Archdiocesan Research Center Patrick Mc Crosson m Mary Jane McGinley Jan 19,1879 St. Anne's R C Church in Port Richmond. 1880 Cenus shows them living on Ann Street.
St. Anne's Church records show that Ellen Crosson was b Nov 1879. At that time the surname was shown as Crosson. Three more children were born to this family. John b Mar 1881, Mary Jane b July 1882 and Isabelle b Oct 1884.

My grandmother was Ellen the oldest child. The next info that I have is from West Chester Historical Society where newspaper records show that Ellen married Hugh W. Waters in Camden NJ in 1907. After marring they lived in West Philadelphia.

1900 Camden City Directories show that Mary Jane and Ellie both worked as domestics in Camden but I can find nothing on Patrick.
Kemmit and variation

Hello,
While searching for my name, Kemmet, from Co Sligo, Ireland, I discovered it had many variation (see surname list). In my own family, I found some Kemmets, Kimmets, Kimmetts and Kemmitts.

The name distribution in Ireland is mostly in Co Sligo and the neighbouring counties : Roscommon and Leitrim (Roman catholics). Some went to the US, Canada, England, and a lot to Scotland in the 19th century.

Other lived in Dublin, Co Carlow, Wicklow and Ulster (Protestants).

The name has almost vanished from Ireland, except for one Kemmitt in Sligo town and two Kimmitts in Sligo and Leinster.
I don't believe the name to be Irish but rather English or German;

I am interested on any infos your Kemmits.
