Dear Jim, I have just started to trace the Crosthwaite side of my family tree. The only information i have goes back to Archibald Walker crosthwaite, married 1909 Muiravonside, near Bathgate. I would be interested if this ties into any of your research.

I just got off the phone with my mother and we were talking about Crosthwaite descendants etc.... Her mothers name was Judy Minor and her fathers name was Edward Minor, previously Crosthwaite until his adoption as a child... My maiden name is Mooney which is of course my fathers last name... his family is from Missouri. Frank Mooney was his father.... I know for a fact that my children aren't recorded yet at the museum in San Diego... My brother and I however are. I am just dying to know what other info you have!!! My grandfather has kept what he knows a secret and its bugging me. Thanks!!!

Hello -

Information on Phillip Crosthwaite Pioneer of San Diego can be found on my website - hosted on Tribal Pages, in the Site ID box type Crosthwaitetree and click on go. In the stories section you'll find some information on him that I found on the internet, including the San Diego Historical Society's website. At this time I don't know which branch he's related to, but it probably goes back to England, vs being descended from William Crosthwaite of Orange Co., Virginia - his parents immigrated to Ireland from England as did some other Crosthwaite families. If you visit my website, please sign our guest book. Currently we have almost 5K names in our data base. There are stories about our first known ancestor to come to the Colony of Philadelphia around 1720-1721, moved his family to Orange Co., Virginia and his sons and descendants continued in the Pioneer Spirit across the country. If you find your branch and want me to update information, please feel free to contact me. Thanks, Judy Crosswhite-Stratton

I've been watching this thread for awhile now.

Phillip Crosthwaite is a rather common name in my line. That's not a definate connection at all. However, it would be nice to have some dates, any known siblings, place of birth etc.

:)

It's one thing to say I'm the great great grandson if you're 20 years old and another if you're a great grandfather yourself. It could mean the difference of a hundred years in your timeline.

Does anyone have a date or age on this Phillip?

Charlotte Crosswhite
I am great great great grand-daughter of Philip Crosthwaite of Ireland who has much history in San Diego. My great-Aunt, (and grandmother who has past) is daughter of Rosario Crosthwaite, who was daughter of Charles and Rosario Crosthwaite. Charles Crosthwaite was son of Philipe and Josefa Crosthwaite. My great Aunt is turning 80 this next year and would love to help her find out more about our ancestry. Specifically she is looking for a book that was published from a series of articles written in the San Diego Union around 1850ish. These articles were written by Philip Croswaite and later published as a book. I believe they were a sort of diary, but not sure. If anyone can help me find information on this book and how I may be able to find a copy it would be the greatest gift I could ever present to my Aunt. she has so many historical stories about this part of our heritage and this would definately help close some gaps. Please help if you can with anything such as a name, publication date, etc,,

I have your line as Edward - Philip - Francisco - Felipe Eleuterio - Martina. Is that correct?

Mine is Edward - Philip - Carlos - Alex - Phyllis.
I had a message a few years ago from a woman named Britta who lives in San Diego: Phillip Crosthwaite was my great, great, great grandfather. His daughter Chipita Crosthwaite married Julio Osuna. One of their daughters was Ruth. Ruth married Albino Bertoncini from Italy and they had several children, one of which was my grandmother, Esther. Esther married Scott Lorraine and they had only one daughter Arlene, my mother. My mom married Garry Wilson and had my sister, Kristin, and I. So that's it in a nutshell.

Jim I have quite a lot of information on the Crosswaite/Crosthwaite family and my Great Grandmother was a Mary Crosswaite daughter of Joseph Crosthwaite and Deborah Goodall. Deborah died sometime after 1821 and Joseph Crosthwaite married Sarah Stainburn at Whitkirk, West Riding, England. Joseph died at Bardsey, West Riding, England Feb. 1865 at the age of 90. He was living with his daughter Mary Crosswaite (my Gr. Grandmother)at that time. Mary Crosswaite born Dec. 25, 1816 and married John Robinson in 1833 at Whitkirk, West Riding, England. John Ribinson died in October 1865. These are all in the parish records for Bardsey. Mary immigrated with her family to the US in 1869 and lived in the Marion-Delaware counties of Ohio. I have more information if you want to write me at my e-mail address. maryfmyers@earthlink.net

Pisgah Cemetery and Macedonia Cemetery in Audrain/Boone Counties in Missouri on my website.

You have my permission to "steal" these photos to include in your genealogy research. Simply right click on the photo and choose Save Picture As...

I have tried to put down what is on the tombstone but some are in really bad shape.

I hope you enjoy these and I encourage you to help the people who are maintaining these cemeteries by sending them donations (no matter how big or small). Both cemeteries are in excellent shape but neither have active churches to support them.

Hello Robert, or should I say cousin (?)

Feel any iron foundries in your past - if so, you're one of us!

If you are of the line, I think you are, the next people up from JSC is John Robinson Crosthwaite Iron founder of Thornaby on Tees. However, we have to be careful, as my John Stainton C, appears to have died in 1818, however, I have, shamefully, failed to keep the reference I have to that... let me check my records....

BTW, the Falkirk connection is very strong, as that where the family came from, before Thornaby...

There is a connection somewhere, need to confirm where.

Anyways - welcome!!

Best regards,

Catherine Crosthwaite
