Hello,

I have recently found myself researching the Gauthier/Gokey family in Rudolph and visited the St. Phillip cemetery a few days ago. I remember seeing several Crotteau stones, including on for and Israel and I believe a Cleophas. I have a little bit of free time as of late and if you would like I can do a bit of research for you in the records office there. Just e-mail me directly at the address below and give me a few names that you need information on and I will see what I can find for you.

Amber
amberdreamer@hotmail.com

New User

I would appreciate any suggestions.

I am trying to determine the mother of the last three children of Louis Crotteau. The last three deceased children of Louis Crotteau were: HAROLD JOSEPH (b 5 March, 1923 in Cloquet, Carlton Co., MN and d. 3 November, 2007 in Cloquet, Carlton Co., MN, I believe he belonged to VFW and was a private in WWII), MARGARET MARY b. 25 September, 1925 in Cloquet, Carlton Co., MN and d. 11 June, 1999 Fair Oaks, Sacramento, California, and DALE FRANCIS b. 31 August, 1929 Cloquet, Carlton Co., MN and d. 8 May, 2000 Friday Harbor, San Juan, Washington, USA.

It was recorded on Margaret Mary's birth record that her mother's maiden name was HATTER.

If anyone knows the name of the mother of these children---VFW, church, military, cemetery, Bible, etc. records, I would be so grateful hearing from you!

Thank you so much!

Hi Paul,

First of all, I believe a CORRECTION should be made; remove the first name, Christian. I believe that was an error and that the name should just read LOUIS CROTTEAU.

There were quite a few Christian Crotteau's and the one that I think fits with this family is LOUIS CROTTEAU -- "BORN ABOUT 1879" and resided in Barron County, Wisconsin during the 1880, 1900,and 1910 Federal Census and migrated to Carlton County, Minnesota and appeared in the 1930 Federal Census (married to Emeline ?). See the Ancestry.com--ALL RECORDS and select CENSUS & VOTER LISTS.

Also, I was given this information:

ALMA CROTTEAU:
from the California Death Index:

HALL, ALMA MERINA born 01/28/1906 Wisconsin
Mother's Maiden Name: Chartier
Father's Last Name: Crotteau
Sacramento (died) 06/18/1986 547-52-8177 80 yrs.

MY NOTE: Alma Crotteau was born in Barron Co., MN

CROTTEAU, MARGARET MARY
Date of Birth: 25 Sep 1925
Mother Maiden Name: Hatter
certid# 1925-04151
County of Birth; Cartlton

MY NOTE: That is Carlton, Minnesota.

I will keep searching and posting.

Thank you, Paul

Nancy

I am trying to help my friend trace her family history. I don't have much information.

These family members lived in Cloquet, Carlton Co., Minnesota.

Her grandparents were Christian Louis Crotteau. His wife was Katherine (maiden name unknown). Other relatives were Margaret Mary Crotteau and her sister, Alma.

Margaret Mary Crotteau spent part of her childhood in an orphanage. Her sister, Alma. then, raised her.

Does anyone know of any information: cemetery, marriage, church, societies, etc. for this family.

The family tradition is that they are related to Merriwether Lewis.

Any advice or knowledge of this family would be appreciated.

I will share what information I may discover.

Thank you so very much.

Nancy
Hello Kim - My grandmother's youngest brother was named Hilmer Thoreson and he married a Pearl Leona Crotteau in 25 Apr 1948 Zumbrota, Goodhue County, MN and she passed away in 22 Mar 1994. She is burried in Zumbrota Cemetary, Sec E388 1 Zumbrota, Minnesota. Does any of this information seem right to you? I have first cousins in the Minneapolis area that are the children of Hilmer and his first wife. My records show that Hilmer and Pearl never had any children, but she had children from her first marriage to Bennett. Last year when I visited Zumbrota I met Dan Bennett, he lives in Hilmer Thoreson old house that Dan has now upgraded years ago. He is a son of Pearl's. You must know him!

Take Care

Roger
