There was a mine explosion at Marianna Mines in 1908. I don't know if Lewis might have been there or not. A number of the miners were not able to be identified. I am not sure of the location of Marianna in relation to Nottingham Twp.

As for Lewis, I did find him with parents and siblings in 1880 in Butler Co., PA. His father was Robert, and his mother Francis (sic) Unknown. For the life of me, I cannot find this family in the 1870 census, nor can I find this Robert in any earlier censuses. If you or someone else can track him back to his parents, and if they end up in the family I think they might, I should have some info for you on earlier generations that I would happily share. The first step is to find this Robert's parents, and I have grown bleary eyed trying without success. Please let me know if you are able to find Robert's parents.

Mary Lou

I have nothing that either proves or disproves that we're talking about the same man. "My" Alexander Crouch was born c. 1831 in Kent County, Maryland, lived in Baltimore in 1860, enlisted with Co. E, 87th Pennsylvania Infantry, in York, Pennsylvania, in 1861, and lived in Sharpsburg, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in 1890. He was a plasterer by trade. The data that you have I lack and vice-versa, so I can't say if we have a match or not. Mine may have died in 1894, but that is not solid.

CROUCH-CHRISSMAN connection

William T. CROUCH, b ca 1832, MD married Mary E. CHRISSMAN about 1858 in OH or IL. She was the daughter of Jeremiah CHRISSMAN and his wife, Mary who were living in Akron, Summit Co., OH in 1850 census. William and Mary's son, Eugene CROUCH, b Mar 1859, IL, was listed as a nephew and living in the household of his aunt, Margaret RHODES CROCKER in the 1880 census of Sacramento. This is "The" CROCKER family of Calif. I am trying to figure out if it's the CHRISSMAN or the CROUCH line connected to the RHODES family.

Yes, I have furnished Bruce with transcriptions of REV WAR documents for Thomas Evans' widow Ann Howerton Evans and also John Riley and his wife Nancy Evans Riley..both prominent pioneer families in the area. We are just mystified as to where all my Groom/Grooms families went to from there. I know mine went to Polk Co TN around 1851 after fatherinlaw William Riley died. Thanks so much.
Anna Crouch Sheets had entered Crouch/Delk/Riley etc info a few years ago while she was actively doing some family research. I recognized many of the names from my research and wanted to find her. If you are familiar with the family there at Fentress Co TN, you may have the same information. Please contact me at meljr09@msn.com as I would love to share info with someone who knows the area and old families. Mine left Fentress Co about 1851 for Polk Co TN and then into Leon Co TX.

In 1924 Anna's brother Josiah T. Crouch's probate notice was published. Included in list of heirs were Oscar, Nelson and Maude Densmore. I suspect that one of Josiah's Crouch siblings married a Densmore. Of course want to know more.

Linda Guynup Dewey

Recently discovered that my gg grandmother Anna HARE, whose maiden name I've been searching for more than 20 years is ANNA CROUCH, b 1819/20, in Peru, Clinton County, Ny. Her parents were JOHN CROUCH (b 1793, Vt.and Charlotte no maiden name (b 1795, Vt.)

Found John in 1820-1850 censuses, Clinton County, Ny,then in 1870, he (at least JOHN CROUCH b 1792 Vt) appeared in Essex County. Living with: CATHERINE KIZE, b 1826,(fits a slot in my ggg grandfather's 1840 census in Clinton County ). Is this my John Crouch?

Another of John Crouch's children was John R., who moved to Illinois about 1861. Found J.R. Crouch in Livingston County, Illinois -- right age and right parents' birth locations.

Is my John Crouch part of the group of Crouches that migrated from Vermont to Pennsylvania, early 1800s? If so, he went off on his own. Believe two of his sons spent sometime in Erie pre-Civil War.

Linda
