Yes she could have been his sister, Austin had a daughter named Sybil M as well and in my notes I have "Jacob Croy" as possible father to Austin, probably from census info.
Austin's DC didn't list any parents.

Wonder if my Sybil Marie Croy, born in Vermont, 1816 was possibly a sister to your Austin... Sybil's death certificate said her father was Jacob Croy from Germany and mother Sybil ODELL from Vermont. Sybil Marie Croy married Henry Munson and lived most of her life in Ohio. She died in 1911.

Hi Nancy,
You would need to give me more info on your family - on what you are looking for or what you have on Austin, to see if I can help.
This Austin died in Michigan.
He was first married to a Martha (?), then a Mary (Cummings).
Austin and Marthas son, John D Croy is the branch the tree I am working on takes. Austin A Croy, John D Croy, James A Croy, Clarence W Croy, James Andrew Croy.
I got a copy of his (Austins) death cert, but it doesn't list any parents, and his obit gives no further info on parentage either. There were quite a few Croy sons and daughters, they could have named a child after him - if your Austin has a different birth date.
I have a bit of info on related Croys.

Hi Greg
I don’t know if I didn’t see your original email or if I didn’t understand it and planned on looking it up. Anyway I see what you mean about Almira no longer in the Henry Fisher household in 1860 and the 11 year old Amanda in N.M. Lake’s household is the right age. Maybe Elizabeth took her relative Amanda in to help her with her children Mary and Henry before she was married? Elizabeth was 23 at the time so I doubt that Amanda was her daughter however I know Henry (my great grandfather) was her son so I assume Mary one year older was her daughter. Another question is who is the Mary, 16 years old with Henry Fisher in 1860? The 1850 census said his son Hester A. was 6. Have you found anything else new about this?
P.S. I can’t view the pilot at home, my computer is too old, I have to look at it at our library.
Fran
Hi Nancy,

I've been researching this line from Jacob & Sarah (Stoner) Croy. My great5grandparents were John & Rebecca (Croy) Stoner. Jacob & Rebecca Croy were children of Jacob & Mry (Huston) Croy. John & Sarah Stoner were I believe children of John Stoner Sr., a Rev War soldier buried in Blooming Grove Twp., Richland co., OH.

These two families lived on adjacent land in Greenfield Two, LaGrange co., IN; and both Jacob Croy and John Stoner are buried at Eagle Cemetery, Greenfield Twp, LaGrange co. I have a photo taken last year at the cemetery of Jacobs tombstone.

I have been reseaching quite a bit on Jacob & Sarah (Stoner) Croy line.
Re: Croy Family of Missouri

We might be related. My former father-in-law, now deceased, was Glen Hays Croy, whose hometown was Jamesport, MO. His father was Enoch Alexander Croy, born 13 Dec. 1863. He was 24 yrs. old when he married Ida Ellen Hays, born 27 Dec. 1869. Enoch was a farmer and cattle breeder in the Jamesport/Trenton/Gallatin area. Enoch and Ellen were both 24 yrs. old when they wed. This info is on the back of two small photos given to me by Elizabeth Bray Croy, wife of Glen Hays Croy, while I was married to their son, Milton Glen Croy (born 17 Mar 1941; died 2003 or 2004 in FL).

Glen Hays Croy had quite a few sisters; I remember him mentioning Barbara, Lilly and Jeannette. I think he also had a brother who had moved to Arkansas. I think his name was Hart.

Glen attended Chillicothe Business College and worked selling stationery and office supplies in central and western MO. He later worked as a county auditor of the state. When Warren Hearnes was governor, Glen became Assistant Treasurer for the state. They lived for many years in Jefferson City, MO.

Glen's wife was Elizabeth Bray Croy, also from the Trenton/Gallatin/Jamesport area. They had three children, one of whom was stillborn. Their daughter, Suzanne, graduated from Jefferson City High School and married Richard Myer. They had a son and two daughters and, eventually, grandchildren. The family farmed and operated a window-cleaning business in Jefferson City and Columbia, MO.

Glen and Elizabeth's son, Milton Glen Croy, also graduated from Jefferson City High, attended the U. of MO at Columbia, worked as an engineer and also, for a time, as an aartist for the state. Milton married me in 1965 in St. Louis County. We had a son in 1969 in CA and another in 1970 in MA. We divorced in 1977.

Glen and Elizabeth are now deceased and are buried in Jamesport, probably in a Methodist cemetery because they occasionally attended a Methodist church in Jefferson City.

Thanks for the info, it helps a lot. I do not know Margaret's maiden name or where they married. I'm working on that. Do you know if Westview cemetery was previously called Blackswood cemetery? In the Roseanna Croy Dawson diaries she refers to it a few times. That is where she says John Croy is buried. He died in 1898. He is my gg grand father. Also his wife Martha Paulina All Croy, she died in 1889 after giving birth to my g grandmother Mary Croy Rogers.

Hi, Christopher. I saw your message, and I would be interested to know if you have any information about Anna Croy, born about 1801, in Vermont. She married James English Robart in Portage county, Ohio, I believe. I understand that her eldest daughter, Minerva Robart, born about 1825, in Ohio, married Nathan Brier Jones. Minerva and Nathan are my 3rd great grandparents. They lived in Kalamazoo and Branch counties, Michigan, then Keokuk county, Iowa, where Minerva apparently died about 1861. They had eight children. I would appreciate any information you might be able to give me. Thanks

Please Help! Croy of Giles Co, VA

OKay, here's the information I know....

1860: District 20, Giles Co, VA
William Clybern 67
Christina Croy 56
Lemuel Clybern 25
Eliza Clybern 25
James Clybern 3
Elizabeth Clybern 1

I thought that this William Clybern was my ancestor...until I did the DNA test.

1850: District 20, Giles Co, VA
W Clyburn 57
Christian Croy 50
(S)amuel B Croy 16
Sarah E J Croy 9

This is the same family group from the above 1860 census. The Lemuel listed above is incorrectly listed as Samuel in this census. He appears as either Lemuel, or Lemuel B on all other census records. He later marries and has a son, James William Clayborn, from whom I descend. We ASSUMED that he was a Clayborn through and through, but we missed this information on the 1850 census until after we got the results of the DNA test back. Obviously William Clyburn living with Christina is not Lemuel's father. Christina Croy is obviously his mother, but I have no additional information on her other than she was b. about 1804 in VA and that she lives in Giles Co in 1850 and 1860.

The DNA Results point to either Wilbourns or Blackwells(I think?)....not Croy...so even though Christina Croy is his mother there remains a mystery because if Christina Croy is a widow and Croy is her married name, then her husband may not have been the father...but I dont even have her husband's name at this moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

-John Clayborn

Mary (Huston) Croy Roberts, wife of Jacob Croy

I had received information from a Croy/Huston researcher in California, in which it was stated that her brother had received a letter from Fred E. Croy, a while back, which said that Fred had found the gravestone of Mary (Huston) Croy Roberts, and that the stone said she was “wife of Jacob Croy.”
I wrote Fred early this month, and had a phone call from his wife Mary, last week. She told me that Fred had not been doing any active research for the last few years because of his health and eyesight. She told me that they had found the tombstone at what she called “Plain City Cemetery,” which I have been able to identify as Darby Township Cemetery, just southeast of Plain City, Madison county, Ohio. Plain City is in both Darby Twp., Union county and Darby Twp., Madison county.
Mary (Huston) Croy was not married long to George Roberts, who predeceased her, and they had no children, so her children residing near her buried her under her first married name, Croy. Next to her is the tombstone of her granddaughter, Eliza Ellen Marquis, daughter of John & Eleanor (Croy) Marquis. There is a photo of the Eliza Ellen Marquis stone here:

http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~rocky/madison_cems/darbytwp/m...

Fred’s wife sent a couple of photos that they had taken of Mary Croy’s gravestone. Actually two stones. One had been broken by a fallen tree limb, so Fred & Mary Croy, had a new one installed in 2003.
The original stone reads:

In Memory of
MARY CROY
wife of
JACOB CROY
who died August 9th, 1824
Aged 63 Years

The new stone reads:

IN MEMORY OF
MARY CROY
AUG 8 1824
AGED 63 YEARS
WIFE OF JACOB CROY
Forever In Our Hearts

Written with a finger in the surrounding cement is “JUNE 2004 F. E. CROY”

Something recently caught my eye, while looking for Mary Roberts in the 1820 census in Ohio. The only two that appear, seem to be the same person. There is a Mary Roberts in both Darby Twp, Union county, and Darby Twp, Madison county. In both censuses she is listed immediately after James Russell; probably her son in law who married Elizabeth Croy.
In Union county, in the Mary Roberts household there is 1 male 16 to 26 years of age, 1 female to 10, and 1 female 45 &c. In the James Russel household there is 1 male to 10, 1 male 10 to 16, 1 male 16 to 26, 1 male 45 &c, 2 females to 10, 1 female 10 to 16, 1 female 26 to 45. Also on the same page is a James Marcus (possible misspelling of Marquis?)
In Madison county, in the Mary Roberts household there is 1 male 16 to 26, 1 female 10 to 16, and 1 female 45 &c. In the James Russel household we have 2 males 10 to 16, 1 male 16 to 26, 1 male 45 &c, 2 females to 10, 1 female 10 to 16, 1 female 26 to 45. Also directly below Mary Roberts enumeration in Madison county is John Marquis, with 1 male to 10, 1 male 26 to 45, 2 females to 10, and 1 female 16 to 26.
It seems to me that these were the same people (more or less) counted twice in two locations, probably near each other. Would like to know how others feel about this.
I have posted two photos of the Mary (Huston) Croy Roberts gravestones on my genealogical files and links at my homepage: http://www.chrisbarttels.net/

Christopher Barttels
Dayton, Washington

Fran,
I found some info that might help both of us if my hunch is right. 1850 Census Monroe Township, Perry Co, Ohio is listed a Henry Fisher (49) married to Elizabeth (45); their children are Lucinda (14), Elizabeth (12), Margaret (10) Henrietta (8), Hester A. (6) and Almira (1). It looks like on that last one that the Cesus taker might have accidently written an "L" or perhaps Amanada's real name is this other one. If you don't have access anywhere else, you can see it at pilot.familysearch.org. Please email me at reachgfb at yahoo dot com. Thanks, Greg
P.S. all the ages match up from 1860 Census so I think a high chance for a match. Link to site follows: http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#surnam...

William and Catherine Croy had a daughter named Rosa but I know nothing else about Rosa. Do you know if she married Willard Philibaum? Does anyone know anything about Elgie Mae Croy? She married Charles Huston. Lived in Ohio and Indiana and had 5 children. James, Marie, William, Audry, and Bessie. I know her name at her death was Elgie Simmons. She may have had Indian blood also. I have heard she was mixed blood, but have no proof of that.
