CROZIER DNA PROJECT - first results coming in

The Crozier Y-DNA Project is now up and running with Familytreedna at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Crozier

The project has three main aims: discover the origins of the surname, identify the geographical location of the various branches of the family and help individuals overcome their genealogical brickwalls by linking up with their genetic cousins. The project is open to males who carry the Crozier/Crosier surname (and variant spellings). If you are female you will require to find a brother, father or uncle to supply a sample.

This month is a particularly good time to join as there is a discount sale available until the 30th of September. The Project recommends taking the 37 marker test as this narrows matches and gives a better calculation to the most recent common ancestor. It is possible to join the Project from this link
https://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspx?code=X67891&...

The results from our first two participants both from Fermanagh have begun to arrive back from the lab and already we can tell they are from different unrelated families.

Please feel free to email me for further information.

Every good wish
Alasdair Macdonald

Francis Rawdon Moira Crozier

I am trying to determine the connection, if any, between my father’s grandfather and Captain Francis Crozier.

My great grandfather’s name was Francis Rawdon Moira Crozier Spaul. He was born in Stoke, Devon, England between July 1864 and March 1865. (This information is deduced from his age as shown on his wedding certificate and subsequently on the birth certificate of his daughter, my late grandmother, Una Spaul). Francis’s father’s name was Acheson Crozier Spaul.

Acheson Crozier Spaul was a Lieutenant in the Royal Marines. His wife was Maria Geoffrey. My father, Desmond John Francis Williams (who is now in his eighties) remembers hearing some talk in the family about a family connection with the North West Passage expedition when he was a boy.

Some time ago my parents were watching a BBC show about the North West Passage. They were extremely surprised when they heard the full name of Captian Crozier which had the same first four names as my father’s grandfather.

I am not sure if we are descendants of Captain Francis Rawdon Moira Crozier’s family but it seems to be a possibility.

Do you have any information that would help?

I would be grateful for any information you can provide.

James B. Crozier, 1835-1/22/1887, Ireland > PA>Iowa

JAMES B. CROZIER, deceased, was a farmer residing on section 10, Oregon Township. He was a native of Ireland, born in 1835, and was a son of John and Fanny Crozier, who came to America in 1847, and settled in Washington County, Pa., where they remained until their death. The subject of this sketch came to America with his parents when twelve years of age, and remained with them until he was sixteen. He was reared on a farm, and as a farmer spent his entire life.

In 1866, James B. Crozier was united in marriage, in Washington County, Pa., to Miss Sarah Morrison, a daughter of Benjamin and Rebecca Morrison, who were natives of Pennsylvania, the former being of Scotch-Irish, and the latter of Irish descent. She was born in Pennsylvania, March 18, 1845. Her parents both died in that State. Mr. and Mrs. Crozier were the parents of seven children, five of whom are living—Dawson J., William J., Roy H., Laura Fa. and Howard B. Walter and Belle are deceased.

Mr. Crozier came to Washington in December, 1866, and settled on the farm now occupied by Mrs. Crozier. At that time he was in very limited circumstances, but by hard work, economy and good management, assisted by his amiable wife, he left at his death a farm of 222 acres of fine land, all of which is under a high state of cultivation. His death occurred Jan. 22, 1887. Mr. Crozier was regarded as one of the best citizens of Washington County. He was a kind and affectionate husband, and indulgent father. The widow still resides on the home farm, which is cultivated by her sons. Everything around the place denotes thrift and enterprise. On the premises is a good residence, barn and other necessary out-buildings. In addition to general farming, her sons are engaged principally in raising stock.

Portrait and Biographical Album of Washington County Iowa
1887
page 439

James Crozier

Hullo out there, I am trying to trace my great grand father, he was born in Ireland towards the later side of the 1800s, his family apparently moved from Cork to Dublin and then to Armagh and eventually to Belfast.
Here he apparently met and married my great grandmother Rebeca(sorry I have no maiden name). They had 4 children, (James or Jackie, Freddy, Ernest and Ethel)Ithink my greatgrandfather was a watchmaker or jeweler by trade ,as well as a handy musician.
Around 1908-9 he disapeared, apparently with a circus ochestra and made his way to Canada(Iam not sure where he landed) but we believe he enlisted in the military-ww1 and later re-married and had other children and possibly continued his work as a jeweler. He is apparently burried somewhere in Vancouver.
Iam desperately trying to contact anyone who may have known or heard of my greatgrandad or his extended family and even possibly relatives or decendants of his that are still alive today,I would greatly appreciate any information that you may have as I am compiling a family geneology chart , thankyou
I MAY BE CONTACTED AT THE ABOVE E-MAIL ADDRESS OR POST A MESSAGE HERE AS I HAVE ADDED THIS SITE TO MY FAVORITES ,CHEERS

Robert Gustavus Crozier

Robert G Crozier is listed in the United States 1880 census in Hill, Texas. His age at this time was 73. He is living with his daughter Mary Susan and her husband Richard Curr Donaldson and their children. On the census there is a descrepancy in his birthplace. His daughter list her father's birthplace as Ireland and Robert list his birthplace as Tennessee. I have tried to find him in earlier census but have not had any luck. He was married to Susan Hardy. I can be e-mailed at mlhreh2@hotmail.com Margaret Holmes

William Crozier - Ship Owner & Master Mariner

I am trying to find information on William Crozier who was born abt 1794/1798 presumably in England, but could be Ireland. He was married to Mary Ann Napper on 5 May 1834. In various documents he is known as a Master Mariner and Ship Owner, but I cannot seem to find where he was born or where his children were born. Those born after civil registration in 1837 were born in Blackheath, Kent, England, which is where he seemed to remain and probably where he died. The children of whom I am aware are:

Mathilda Gibson Crozier born abt 1833 married John Edward Smith in Greenwich, England.
William born abt 1835 and married Jane Bowles in South Africa then disappeared???
Gibson Napier Holmes Crozier married Harriet Porter Rhodes Wood in South Africa
Philip Augustus Crozier born 5 April 1842 married Mathilda Laby.

William could have had a brother named George and another named Robert who possibly came to South Africa in the early 1800's so would presumably have been older than William.

Thanks
Tessa

Peter Frederick IVES b 6 Oct 1939, Banbury

I'm really keen to find Peter Frederick IVES, born in Banbury, Oxfordshire on 6th October 1939, son of Francis Fred IVES, a chauffeur, and Nellie Joan nee BUTLER. Francis and Joan married in Middleton Cheney near Banbury, Oxfordshire in 1935.
Peter may have a sister Sally IVES who may have married a dentist [name unknown!] and/or lives in Australia [place unknown!].
Peter and Sally were probably raised by their grandparents, Frederick William BUTLER and his wife Frances Nellie nee GASCOIGNE.
After WWII Joan married my brother, Frank CROZIER, and their daughter [my niece] recently learned she had secondary cancer. She and her newly-found half-brother would love to be able to contact Peter or Sally, who probably have no idea of their existence.
Any suggestions on tracing Peter and/or Sally from New Zealand would be very much appreciated!! Thankyou!!!

Christine may have graduated McKinney High School then attended Southern Methodist University. Frank worked for the telegraph company.
My particular interest is in Frank's wife, Claude. I'm fairly sure she is my great grandfathers sister. Appears she may have been born around 1878 in Georgia. If I'm right, her brother is Robert James Smith.
Any help would be appreciated.

Looking for information about ancestors and descendants of Agnes Crozier, allegedly born in Scotland 1800-1810, only daughter of Lord Crozier of Edinburgh, disowned because she scandalized the family by running off with a family servant (stable master, stable boy or some such; the story I got was kind of vague), ended up in Canada where her daughter Agnes (born about 1837 in Scotland) married a man by the name of Deans. Daughter Agnes Deans is in the 1881 Canadian census for Ontario as widowed, head of household. Any help in tracing will be greatly appreciated.
Sid Dean SidDean@hotmail.com

Here is one for you all:
"Crozier Family"..."Hold Annual Reunion Thursday at Reeves Park"...The Crozier family held a reunion at Treeves park, Thursday. The attendance was larger than last year. Those in attendance from Findlay were Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Crozier, Mrs. Lewis Richardson and Isaac Bellingsley. The following are the officers for the ensuing year: President: R.W. Crozier, Arcadia...Vice-President:M.Z. Crozier, Washington Twp...Secretary: George Hosler, Arcadia...The next reunion will be held at Riverside park the third Thursday in August 1911.

********this is the article in its entirety**********

Christian Frederick Crozier

I am trying to develop the family history of Croziers of
Philadelphia and Michigan. Christian F. Crozier was
married to Mary J. Mcderment (sp?) in Phila. on 16 Jul
1854. The children born to this couple are: Carrie Crozier
b.21 Oct 1855; William H. Crozier b.17 Feb 1858; Emma
Crozier b. 4 Nov 1862; John Crozier b.26 Oct 1865; Lydia
Crozier b. 11 Oct 1868; Nellie Crozier b. 11 Sep 1872;
Mary Crozier b 12 Dec. 1879. Christian Crozier is believed
to have been born abroad, birthplace unknown. Sometime
after the birth of Willliam the family is believed to have
moved to Boyne City, Michigan. We are trying to learn
where Christian was born and more about their life in
Boyne City.

Robert CROZIER bn c1856 IRL > Glasgow, SCT 1880s+

Hello -- I am seeking information about the birthplace and parents of my great grandfather, Robert CROZIER, born c1856 in Ireland.
Robert was married to Mary STODDART in Glasgow, SCT on 7 July 1881. According to the marriage certficate, he was 25 years old at that time. His address was 106 Burnside Street and his occupation was iron foundry labourer. The same document says his parents were Edward CROZIER & Margaret, nee MARTIN.
By the time of the 1891 census, Robert and Mary were living at 57 Clyde Street (Glasgow) with their four young sons who were all born in Glasgow -- Robert born 1881, John born April 1884 (my grandfather), Edward born 1886, and Samuel born 1888. Robert, a foundry labourer, was age 34 at the time and, according to the census entry, he was born in Ireland (but an exact location isn't specified).
I have done some searching of Irish records for an appropriate Edward CROZIER and, while I have found a couple of "possibles", I haven't been able to find one married to a Margaret MARTIN.
Robert died sometime between 1891 and 1926 because he is listed as deceased on the marriage certificate of his son John in 1926.
I would be very interested to hear from anyone who is researching CROZIER in either Ireland or Glasgow, SCT during the time periods I have mentioned.

Elizabeth Crozier was born in 1845 in Pennsylvania. She later married David Warren who was born in 1839 from Kentucky. They raised most of their children around Van Buren, Missouri (Jackson County) and Center Township, (St. Clair County, Missouri. Elizabeth and David were my great-great grandparents. I know of their children's names and where they settled, but I know very little of David and Elizabeth's ancestors at this point. Their children are Dollie, Sarah (Sally), Emily (Emma), Robert, William, Fredric, etc. I don't have the census sheet in front of me at this time. If anyone has any information on these Missouri Crozier-Warrens, I would love to hear from you.

Mark Allgood
