This is a long shot, but I am trying to find any relatives of Bill + Yvonne Crumb, from Edmonton, Canada. Bill was a Canadian Airman during WW2, and he and his wife, Yvonne were billeted with mum's family in Haxby, nr. York, England in June 1944. I believe that Yvonne was pregnant or had a baby at that time. Mum believed that as he had his wife with him, that he might have been an officer. Though mum was only 12 at the time, she still remembers them, and wonders what had happened to them. She's now 78 and it would be nice if I could find anything out for her. I don't know how common the Crumb name is in Canada.

Hi Steve, My name is John Crumb, and I'm just starting to search. You're the first or second one I've written to.We are all (as far as I know so far) from the Dunnville Ontario Canada area. I hope I can open a can of worms for you! Feel free to write back, and I'll give you all I know. One quick question.Have you or anyone else ever heard of the musical gifts that seem to follow the Crumb gene around? I mean seriously amazing musical gifts.None that I know of ever used it professionally, but they very easily could have. Thanks, JohnCrumb

Hi! I'm very new in the areas associated with geneology, but nonetheless,am very excited.Although I'm unable to relay any information on Lannelle and Stephen, perhaps something I am able to say at some point may trigger a response from someone else.It may even assist you in some small way.To the best of my knowledge, and with what I've been able to put together. Our family consisted of simple folks in and around the Dunnville Ontario Canada way.Mostly farmers. My name is John Crumb,I'm 50 y/o born 14/11/59. My dad is Archibald Albert born Aug./02/29 his dad,(same name) born 1898 WW1 veteran/ his dad Elias was married to Catherine Carter lived in Byng on the outskirts of Dunnville Ontario Canada. These folks are my immediate family, but in the same general area there are plenty more with the same surname. One very interesting "trait" of many of the Crumbs (at least around these parts)is the fact that many of them were extremely gifted musically.None that I know of used their musical gifts professionally, although many easily could have including myself.Milo Crumb passed away a couple of years ago.He was a big man with thick fingers.A violin looked like a toy when he held it,but those fingers were as nimble as elf wings.Have you ever heard of the musical gifts given the Crumb family? That's all I have for now. JohnC

Bryce S. Crumb

In 2002, Bryce S. Crumb left a query at the Denison board at genforum.genealogy.com concerning Mary Denison wife of Daniel Wise, m. 16 December 1740. He asked "for BMD on Mary Denison's parents, grandparents, etc as far back as the ancestry goes." I finally found an answer for him, but there are no posts from him after 2003. Does anyone know him? If so, please direct him to http://rootscrazy.wordpress.com/ where he will find the answer.

Mary [Denison] Wise was one of MY "brick wall" ancestors, too.

This is an old message so I am hoping that this forum is still active...

Hello Douglas - I am working on a family tree for McIntee-Brighouse (also Hopkins & Cole). Ernest McIntee from Dunnville was my grampa (married to Mona Brighouse - father of my mother Muriel Hopkins/McIntee). Ernest was the son of Price McIntee - son of James McIntee. Our ancestry goes back to the Crumb family as well including James Albert McIntee and Mary Ann Mains. I would love any info you might have to share with me and I would especially love to obtain a picture of them. I believe the pictures help to bring my family tree to life and I love seeing them!
I have a family tree on ancestry however, I had to cancel my membership as I am currently out of work and caring for my 82 year old father (James Hopkins) who was recently diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's. If you are interested, you could send me your email address and I can "invite" you to view my family tree so that you can access the information I currently have. If I am unsure of the accuracy of the info...I put a "?" by the entry (just so you know).

Hi everyone. I have noticed that no one has written on this message board for awhile so I am hoping that people are still interested.
My name is Dianne Stone. My mother's name was Muriel McIntee, daughter of Ernest McIntee who was the son of Price and Jennie McIntee. The parents of Price McIntee were James William McIntee and Sarah Jane Crumb. I have been working on a family tree and I would really like to share info with anyone connected. I would also love to obtain pictures if anyone has any. I am working on bringing the McIntee tree up to the current time so that anyone who meets a "McIntee" will know how we are connected. I have a few missing links as I don't know all of the info on my grampa Ernest's brothers and sisters...and their families - who they married...names of children...names of grandchildren, dates, etc. I think it would really be great to find out who is related to who in today's times. Anyone is welcome to contact me by email at whisperstone6@hotmail.com (don't forget the "6"). I live in Niagara Falls, On

Clara Fisk's Crumb Genealogy lists William as possibly oldest son of Phineas and Sally (Ross) Crumb. Phineas is the son of William and Jerusha (Edwards) Crumb. William is the son of William and Mercy (Saunders) Crumb, and William is the son of Daniel and Rachel (Roberts) Crumb, oldest ancestor in Ms Fisk's book.

I have parts of this family (Phineas back to Daniel) in my database & will be happy to send it your way.

Actual title of book is: The Crumb Genealogy: Descendants of Daniel Crumb of Westerly, Rhode Island - she published it in 1956. It is available at the Library of Congress (where I first stumbled upon it), I believe through loan at an LDS FHC, and for purchase through a number of genealogical book sellers online. There are a number of references to this text throughout this message board.

Re: The possibility of John Croome being Daniel Crumb's father. A researcher for the New England Historic Genealogical Society had this to say on January 21, 2003:
"John Macoone: Possibly the 'John Mackane' or 'John Croome' of the John and Sara transport list (and perhaps a McGowan or Maclain whose accent could not be understood. He settled in the vicinity of Cambridge and married Deborah Bush on 11/8/1656. They had four daughters: His wife died in 1664 and he married Sarah Wood the following year: Their children were: John b 14 June 1666, Daniel, b 18 Feb. 1668; Elizabeth b. 17 Jan 1669; Margaret b. 20 Feb. 1761; Peter b 21 Feb 1673. John Macoone, the father, "resided on the south side of the river, and was living in 1676."

So if "John Croome" is actually Daniel Crumb's father, Daniel Crumb would have been born in 1668, a little young for Rachel Roberts who was born 12 years earlier, to marry. I believe Daniel Crumb's birthdate has always been earlier than this. What do you say?

Crumb from Duanesburg, Chautauqua County, Jamestown, Schenectady County, (NY)

I am told my grandmother Anita Crumb was born in Jamestown, NY, located in Chautauqua County. Anita(h) Crumb is my mother's father's mother. (Gumbus was her married name). Anita Crumb married Joseph Gumbus, and my Grandfather and 2 (or 3) great uncles were from that family. He in turned married Geneva Estelle DeVeau of Port Jefferson NY.

Back to Crumb:
My mom used to visit "a cousin"....related to Anita(h) Crumb.... in Duanesburg NY in the 50's and 60's. Their last name was Crumb as well. They had a dairy farm. It once had a fire and they saved all but two cows. The names she remembers are Nills and Beedah. The spelling could be totally wrong, but this is how she remembers saying/hearing them.

that is all the info I have. We know VERY LITTLE bout my grandfather's maternial side of the fam and would love to learn more! Thanks!

~~Kristina

Actually I have that book as do many others I am certain. Though I paid far more than fifty cents (pout pout)

You might find it interesting that the original Gaelic spelling was more in this temper "Chruim" with a few other varieties. It seems the small Chruim/Crumb clan was initially established around a "bend" in a river and this is where the name originated. Though I have not confirmed this.

Thank you for your reply, and if you are interested in selling that original book from Clara Crumb Fisk, I would be happy to buy it. Name a price.

Scott S. Crumb, Descedent of Daniel Crumb of Westerly RI

"The name Crump is said to have been derived from the nickname "The Crump or Crumpt", meaning, "The crooked or bent": and was probably given originally to one answering to that description. The name is found on ancient records spelled various ways: Crumpt, Crumppe, Cramp, Crompe, Crombe, Crome, Crombie, Cromb, Cromp, Crump and Crumb." Taken from the Crumb Genealogy, Descendants of Daniel Crumb of Westerly, Rhode Island, compiled by Clara Crumb Fisk. Sarasota, Florida 1956.

I am not related to this family, but my daughter purchased the book written by this lady, for the sum of .50 cents at a Goodwill Store in South Florida. My hat is off to Clara Crumb Fisk as she did her genealogy work before the advent of computers and the internet.

Will gladly do lookups. dedor7020@yahoo.com

Thank you so much for your reply...I had another reply with the same info...but I am interseted in one thing you said...that Daniel Crumb used the name Croome at least once...How do you know that? Where did you look to find that info? I am limited by what I can find because of sheer ignorance and being a novice at this and am really interested to know what other places I can look to find things. I am beginning to believe that John Croome is indeed the father of Daniel. ..it will be interesting to finally have a positive link between the two...good luck on your search and I would love it if you would share your findings...Kathleen

Dear Kathleen:

I have recently found what I believe to be almost certainly Daniel Crumb's father. His name was John Croome (a spelling Daniel used at least once among several others) who was a west Highland prisoner from the battle of Worcester in which Cromwell defeated Charles II. Many of these prisoners were shipped to the Americas and John was one of them, shipped over on the John and Sarah of London, Mastered (her Captain) by John Greene. It landed in Massachucettes in 1652. I have yet to find a positive link though I am very certain of a connection... be patient with me on this one...

Yours,
Scott Simeon Crumb (descendent of Daniel Crumb)

Eliza Crumb from Chenango County NY

My ancestor is Elizabeth (Eliza) A. Crumb born Sept 1815 in Chenango County, NY. She married Joseph B. West from Madison County, NY about 1838. They had a child Charles C. West in Nov 1839. The 1850 census shows them living in Pompey,Onondaga, NY, 1855 census in Mansfield, Cattaraugus Co. and then they settled in Little Valley, Cattaraugus co, NY for the 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1900 census.

Eliza's parents are listed in the 1900 census as being from Rhode Island. It appears that this Crumb family migrated from Rhode Island around 1800-1810. A possible line is Daniel from Westerly, RI. married to Lucy Tift.

I would love any info on Eliza and or this Daniel Crumb line.
