One of the clues I think you have is the middle name "Bell". Benjamin Franklin Cruzan Sr. and Jane DeVault had a son Garrett born about 1800 which is the one mentioned in the previous message here. Another of their sons, Benjamin Franklin Cruzan Jr. was married to Sarah "Bell" McMichael who was born in Ireland. I'm decended from that line and the Bell name was used several times that I know of as middle names. I think it's worth a try for you to check into this line. Connie

I purchased a marriage certificate at an antique show in Amarillo, Texas today (10-30-04) from Amy J. Plew and D. L. Cruzan. They were married July 24, 1873 in Lancaster, TX (I think Lancaster is in Dallas County).

My Grandmother was Carrie Elsie Cruzan, born in McDonald County, Missouri in 1892. Her father was Marshall Cruzan. Her brothers and sisters were Bertha, Jennie, Lena, Robert, Alta, Bill and Della. She married William Earnest Moore. They migrated to California via Oklahoma about 1915. My mother always told me that my G Grandfather Marshall Cruzan was French. Beyond that, we have no history on him. If anyone out there has any information, I would really like to correspond with you.

Olive Kruzan Bishop birthday has been recorded wrong.
I have seen it as Dec 12, 1860. While looking at the
Waterford Twp, Fulton Co. Ilinois 1860 census taken on June 19th 1860 Olive is only 6 months old, so there is no possible way she was born in Dec of 1860. Hope this correction helps someone who is also researching this line.

My g-g-grandmother was Nancy Jane Cruzan, b. 1836, daughter of Garrett. Here is some information on her line. I found the following census record:

1850 Hamilton Co., IN census:
Cruzan, Garret, age 49 - name was spelled with one 't'
Sarah, age 44
Isaac, age 20
Alfred, age 18
Nancy, age 14
Martha, age 10
Mary, age 5
William, age 4 or 5 - difficult to read
Sarah, age 2

Nancy married (1) Thomas F. Chew on 27-SEP-1856 and (2) Scott Carson on 2-SEP-1869)

Children by Thomas F. Chew & Nancy Jane Cruzan:
Alfred Lennox Chew, b. 1-JUL-1857 IA
Sarah Jane Melissa Chew, b. 1858/59 IA (my g-grandmother)

Children by Nancy Jane Cruzan Chew and Scott Carson:
William A. Carson (b. abt. 1872)

Although I have not found more data on Scott Carson, the 1870 Hamilton Co., IN census lists Scott, Nancy, Alfred Chew, Sara Chew and two daughters named Marietta Carson (age 5) and Cora E. Carson (age 3). Due to the wedding date of Nancy and Scott I am assuming they were by a previous marriage of Scott's. Per the publication The History of Fayette Co., IN, Scott had died as of 1872.

In 1880 Nancy was living with son Alfred Chew and his wife Elizabeth, and by 1900 she was living with son William Carson in Fayette Co., IN. She died in 1901.

SUSANNAH CRUZAN/WILLIAM WILSON - INDIANA

Reuben Wilson was born in Indiana about 1836. His parents were William B. Wilson, born 1810 in Kentucky, and Susannah Cruzan, born about 1820 in Indiana, who were married in 1832 in Washington County, Indiana. They are all on the 1850 census for St. Joseph County, Indiana. Reuben came to Humbolt Township, Coles County, Illinois, in the mid-1850s, married Ellen Hoskins in 1857, had children Thomas William, Margaret Mae, and William Solomon. Any information regarding either of Reuben Wilson's parents, WILLIAM B. WILSON and SUSANNAH CRUZAN, would be greatly appreciated. I believe Susannah may be a child of Benjamin and Sarah B. McMichael Cruzan, but can't be sure. She is not listed as one of their children in the family trees I have seen. Does anyone out there have some information on this lady? Thank you!

The Garrett I have is son of Benjamin Franklin Cruzan Sr. and Jane DeVault. He was born around 1800 in KY and died in 1879 in Cicero ( Hamilton Co.) IN. His first marriage was in march of 1822 to Sarah Jacobs and a second marriage (year ?) to a Phoebe Edwards. I don't have any childrens names, but I bet you could check through Hamilton Co. wills, obits, or something. Sounds like it would be worth a try.

Sherman is the son of John Cruzan and his 2nd wife, Mary Welch. He was born in 1865 in Indiana. I know the family was in Marshall Co. IN but not sure of year they moved to MO. I have Electra Ann Cruzan born Dec1, 1850 in Marshall Co. IN died Aug 21,1904 in Conconully WA. She married James Weddle. her parents were Lemuel Cruzan and Mary Ann Barkus. Lemuel was the son of Benjamin Cruzan and Sarah McMichael.
She had a brother William Manton Cruzan and a sister Jerusha Belle Cruzan.

He was once married to "Rebecca Young", with her he had one Son and 7 Grandchildren, all listed in my Book. Their Son, Benjamin Crusan was married to Mary Kier (4), who may have been the Daughter of James Kier (3) of Thomas Kier (2).

Benjamin and Mary had a Son named Garrett Crusan, Jr (5) and he was married to Eliza Jane Butt.

Garrett Crusan, Sr. married the 2nd time to Margaret Mitchell", with her he had one Son named Robert Crusan. Robert was married to a Martha Kier (3), the 2nd Child of Thomas Kier (2). They had 12 Children, two of which died in Infancy.

Thomas Kier (2) is the 4th Child of my Mother's very 1st Kier Ancestors, named Andrew and Mary Mathis Kier.

In your posted message you have said that your GG Grandmother was Leva Cruzan, daughter of Garrett and Sarah Jacobs. Would Garrettt, Jr. have married again the 2nd time???

Who is Mary Anne Cruzan married to and how would I get a Copy of Mary's Book, titled "The Cruzan Story"???

I need to find Barbara Jean (CRUZAN) Snyder and Ethel L. Winterhalter. I can not find either of them on the Cruzan Board. I have yet to contact a possible Winterhalter Board.

Garrett Cruzan, Senior. (4) who was first married to Rebecca Young, had a Son, Benjamin Cruzan married to Mary Kier (4), Mary might have been the Daughter of James Kier (3), of Thomas Kier (2).

Garrett Cruzan, Senior, was married first to Rebecca Young with 7 Children, 2nd time to Margaret Mitchell with 1 Son named Robert Cruzan, -- and possibly the 3rd time with Rebecca Michell.

Robert was married to Martha Kier (3), the 2nd Daughter of Thomas Kier (2). They had 12 Children, two had died in Infancy.

Benjamin and Mary also had a Son named Garrett Cruzan, Junior (5), married to Eliza Jane Butt.

James and Thomas are the Sons of Andrew and Mary Mathis Kier, my Mother's 1st Kier Ancestors. All of these Kiers are listed in my Kier Genealogy Book.

Mary (CRUZAN) Snyder supposedly has said that Garrett Crusan had another Son named Samuel Y. Crusan. I am wondering "WHICH" one of these Garrett Cruzans had this Son, named Samuel Y. Crusan, "if" he was the Son of one of these two Cruzan men.

I am looking for Robert Cruzan, Jr. (4), b. 8/20/1825, he died on 8/31/1872 and his Wife Emily Knox, b. 12/10/1835, died 6/17/1908. Their 11 Children are ---

#1 -- William Sterett Cruzan (5), b. 10/4/1855, died 8/19/1931.
They had 7 Children, I will list them on another posting.
