The Day They Shook the Plum Tree, by Lewis, 1963, has the most inaccuracies about Hetty and her family, beginning with her birth date being wrong.Hetty's real life is even more fascinating!
Hetty's daughter married Matthew Astor Wilks, great grandson of John Jacob Astor who went down on the Titantic. The wedding took place after he signed the pre-nuptial.
There were many scandals in the 1890's.
Hetty loaned the City of $4,500,000. about that time.
No one else would.
There are more than 100 books, and 1500 files regarding Hetty at; a Frugal Woman's Museum, in her hometown, New Bedford, ma. The largest collection of her family history anywhere!

I found an interesting website at heritagepursuits.com, gives references on my Palmer and Cryder families. I am thinking that my direct ancestors Philip and Nancy McClintick Cryder, John and Arabella Cryder Palmer would be buried here. My Palmer and Cryder families lived in Union and Summerford Townships. The Cryder name was used in the Palmer family as a middle name several times through the generations

Where is this cemetery located?

Thanks,

Jeff

While researching my MUSSELMAN surname in Ross Co., Ohio recently, I was given a short biography on Henry MUSSELMAN my GGGGGG-great stepgrandfather giving Henry's wife's name as Elizabeth Cryder d/o Michael Cryder giving this information that you posted "he moved to Ohio going down the Ohio river on a flat boat from Pittsburgh to the mouth of the Scioto and then up the Scioto on a keel boat three miles north of Chillicothe." I am most interested in more information on these Cryder's will glady swap my Musselman information for your Cryder information. I have marriage affidavit of Henry & Elizabeth Cryder/Musselman.

Thank you in advance.

Georgeanna Hallemann
ghallemann@yahoo.com

Sue, THANK YOU for replying! I have waited a long time to catch up with someone who may know something. My husband, Morris Hollingsworth, is the son of Vara Hazel Cryder, daughter of George M. Cryder, son of Asher Lee Cryder.

I have not been able to find out anything about Etta, although I have a lot of family photos of her. I understand her name was really Henrietta Hill.

I know Asher had a brother named Solomon who died in the Civil War. I know their mother was Rebecca Cryder, and I know she is listed on the Guillon Miller Cherokee rolls. I know she, Asher, Etta and George relocated to Georgia after the war.

My husband's cousins have told me that Rebecca was married to a Phillip English, but I have not been able to verify this, or anything more about the family. These cousins have gotten other information wrong about other family members.

I would appreciate any help you can provide. I have a great deal of information regarding George Cryder to present day, but nothing more in past times than I have told you.

Thanks again, Cheryl (Bakerinv@hotmail.com)

Hi: you will find a biography of Alexander McCall's father, listing land and children in: Revolutionary War Soldiers of Western North Carolina, Burke County, Vol 2....now, you should be able to get this book from an ebay bookseller by the name of "bookmomma"....go to ebay and go through their search button....plug in sellers name....when you get to her, just go to any auction she has and hit the hyperlink entitled "ask seller a question"....ebay will send an email to her for you. He was quite the substantial landowner, too, and it does show that Alex married Mary Cryder. pages 184-185.
If this does not work...write to me and I will give you a phone number for the publisher...and I know they have a copy of this.

If these people lived this close to our GRIDERS/CRYDERS, I'm wondering if you shouldn't be looking under various spellings of: Crider, Grider, Gryder.

Our GRIDERS/GRYDERS, often corrupted to CRIDER, built the Revolutionary War Fort called: Fort GRIDER and also known historically as Fort CRIDER, in old Burke county, now Lenoir, Caldwell County (formed in 1841) .

Regards, Melissa

Hi: Unfortunately, I don't have a whole lot yet...maybe someone else reading this will be willing to share with the rest of us. I know there's more data coming in to me on the Tucker family...just got off of the phone with someone today who has more info....what I'm about to post here HAS NOT been verified as to Grider ancestors..just so you know...but I have to run my files somehow with connections for now:

The Incomplete, UNVERIFIED GRIDER file kept by Melissa Grider, Port Washington, WI

Generation No. 1

1. WILLIAM1 TUCKER, BLACKSMITH,TUCKERSBARN was born in unknown; he would have been the famous owner of Tucker's Barn, right near Fort Grider; he also probably did blacksmithy work side-by-side with John Grider, Sr., who was supposed to have been a blacksmith. He married NANCY GRIDER Aft. 1770 in The old Rowan County or the newer (1777) Burke County, NC, daughter of as of yet unverified ancestor of: FREDERICK/FRIDLIN(IMM.1736) GREITER/KREUTER and BARBARA EYLER/EULER. She was born 1748.

More About WILLIAM TUCKER, BLACKSMITH,TUCKERSBARN:
Occupation: Blacksmith
Owner: Of the Lenoir-famous Tucker's Barn, supposedly a "tavern" where local voting and mustering took place; evidently very close to Fort Grider (see also 1925 Lenoir newspaper commemorative news accounts)

Children of WILLIAM TUCKER and NANCY GRIDER are:
i.	Joseph2 Tucker.
ii.	William Tucker,War1812Vet, b. Abt. 1793, Burke County, North Carolina; d. August 17, 1834, Arkansas; m. Mary Unknown.

More About William Tucker,War1812Vet:

Descendants: Mary Burnett,
email: maburn@ix.netcom.com--not sure if still good

Migration: 1820, To Phillips County, Arkansas

Military service: Bet.
