Hi Ruth

Trying to help Reva with CSONTOS line. By any chance you know the ancestral village?
For a second there I thought that KARKHECK will not be found but there were 12 that came thru Ellis Island. www.ellisislandrecords.org
Did find small number of KARKHECKs in Germany's phone book.
www.dastelefonbuch.de

I'm a first cousin of members of the Karkheck family of Rosedale, Queens, NY. I'm very interested in learning more about the family and descendants of Rudolph Csontos, who married Marie ("Mamie") Karkheck. I'd like to share my information with any NY/NJ Csontos descendants.

I believe I can answer some of your questions. It looks like your husband's grandparents were Bill and Ann Csontos. My father, Edward Rudolph, was the oldest, with Dorothy, Henrietta (Helen), and Bill following. Ann had done extensive research on the Csontos family so maybe someone has her paperwork. You won't find much before Rudolph because when he and his brother John were 8 & 10 years old, their father died and they were brought totally German, no Austro-Hungarian because their mother didn't know any. Marie's last name is Karkheck and her parents were born in Ridgewood. I understood from my father that they were here for many, many years, not recent immigrants even when he was born. DOn't know if any of them even knew their grandfather's first name.

Does that help?

Hi

I am also looking for my grandmother's relatives. As far as I know she came from Hungary in the 1890's. She was married to a George Barany. I don't know where they lived in Hungary, possibly Budapest. So far I have not had any luck in finding anything on the web about the Csontos, other than there are a lot of them listed in phone directories.

Pat

I am researching my great-grandfather, Julius Chontos (Gyula Csontos). He was born in the early 1870s, and his death cert says his parents were Frank and Juliana Csontos.

US Cencus records show he immigrated in 1879, ending up in Throop PA. He married Barbara Kis and had 5 children: Frank, Helen, Mary, Joseph, Julius, Louis.

I have no information on his native town, or siblings.

Hi,

I am trying to trace my grandmother's family tree. She was an immigrant from Hungary. She was born in 1899 and came from Budapest. She lived in Duquesne PA and died in 1994. Her name was Elizabeth Csontos and she married a Forsthoffer who was also and immigrant but he was from Germany. I've been searching and searching. Maybe we're related.

Hi,

My grandmother's maiden name was Csontos. She was born in 1899 in Hungary and came over here about 1917 or 1918. I don't know anything else about her origins, she died in 1994 and hardly spoke English. Maybe we're related.

Csontos in Hungary

Hello: My husband's family is from the Budapest area & I have found that his great grandmother was Erzsebet Barsi (1842-1885), from her birth record - her parents are Janos Barsi & Katalin Csontos. They were living in Baracska, Fejer, Hungary at the time of her birth. So far I have found 9 children for Janos & Katalin. If anyone knows about Katalin I would love to know more about her.
If you find a town for your family, be sure to check the LDS files to see if they have filmed church records there, you can then trace your family in Hungary & not guess or wonder.
Dianna

Hi. My father's name is Alladore Csontos and also lived with his father Alexander Csontos in Bridgeport, Conn. I also know that Irma Kulchar is a relative of mine, although I don't remember off hand how. How old was the Aladore Csontos you remember? My father was born in 1941. Is this one too young. Also is the family farm you recall, was it called the Demetas Farm? That has been a recurring story from my childhood as well. Please let me know if this information is helpful. You can just respond to my email at csontos@yahoo.com. Thank you. It's finally good to know that others out there also have the most difficult name to try to have someone spell.

Csontos from NY/NJ

My husband's grandfather came from Rosedale, Queens, NY. He moved to Jersey City, Hudson, NJ as a young man.
The farthest back on the Csontos line is Rudolph Csontos and wife, Marie Karcek. They are my husband's great grandparents. They are both buried in Rosedale. My husband's grandfather was born in 1918, so I'm figuring 20-30 years prior for his parents. I'm not sure which generation would have been the immigrants.
While poking around in FamilyHistory.com's databases of passenger lists from Austria, Galicia Poland, I found:
Istran Csontos immigrated on the ship "Noorland", arrival NY 18900207.
I found in the NY Naturalization 1907-24 database a petition for Naturalization for a Charles Csontos, 315 Lenox Ave (no city listed) on 11 FEB 1921.
I hope this info helps someone. I don't believe they are directly related to my husband.

I know this name from my childhood. We referred to relative as Uncle Al(Aladore Csontos). I do not believe he was an uncle but actually a cousin but he was older so we called him Uncle Al. He lived in Connecticut around the Bridgeport area and had immigrated from Hungary. I am also looking for info on my grandmother, Irma Kulchar. She was also from Hungary near Budapest. I remember stories of a family farm in Connecticut. Unfortunately, my grandmother and mother are no longer living, which make this search harder. Please let me know id you have any info. Thanks.
