Wendy tells that Robert and Elizabeth had about 10 children. Good breeders the Cubbins. Charles with both his wives (Ellen and then Ann) had 20 children with a couple of deaths. Twins also. Cheers
I am tracing Charles Lloyd Cubbin of Liverpool Born 1843. His father was Thomas. You mentioned Robert married Elizabeth in 1818 and had children. I think maybe Robert was a brother/Cousin of Charles' father Thomas Cubbin. All children names of Robert and Elizabeth's children coincide with Charles and Ellen's children and his children to his second wife Ann. If I find anything to substantiate this I will let you know, but it may be a bit of info for u to go further with. Cheers and best of luck in your searches. Marg.
I am trying to track Charles Lloyd Cubbin. His father was John Cubbin, Joiner. Charles married twice, Ellen Worthy, and Ann McTighe, widow (nee Green) Charles had a son Robert, who migrated to Australia and was killed in WW1. Charles also had a brother Robert. At this stage I have not found any more on Charles previous family. Any help would be appreciated.

yes - this is exactly the same Thomas Cubbin who was my gr gr grandfather! I am a descendent of his oldest daughter Esther who shows up as born circa 1855 in that 1871 census.

What is your relationship? Are you descended from one of the other daughters?

amazing to see a response (lucky I caught it) after all these years!

James Cubbon

I am currently researching Thomas Cubbin, master mariner, and the loss of his ship the Serica off the coast of Madagascar in 1868, in which his sons Thomas and James died. I am aware that he and his wife Mary had five daughters – at least one of them born after they escaped from the shipwreck – and according to the 1871 Isle of Man census the whole family was then living at Rose Hill House, Braddan.

If this is YOUR Thomas Cubbin I would very much like to exchange information. Hope to hear from you via ancestry.co.uk,

Regards,
Valerie Cottle

Thanks Dawn, any info would be appreciated. As far as I can make out Albert's father was Charles born 9th April 1843.
Charles died 17th March 1917 aged 74 and burried 20th March 1917 his wife named Ann died 16th December 1915.
She was buried in West Derby. Children Mary Elizabeth, Albert, Ann Gertrude, Robert (died in WW1 August 1915) he was formerly 3rd Dragoon Guardsman and Buried at Malta.,
Evelyn, Harry, Nellie, Thomas. Ofcourse I am relying on remaining family who are rather aged themselves so all this info may not be terribly accurate, however some of it may ring a bell. Harry also died in WW1 killed at Flanders 20th April, and formerly 6th Dragoon Guardsman. Mother of Gertrude, Albert's wife, was Louisa Mines formerly Pearce.
Albert left England and arrived in Australia in 1912 on SS Orama his birth date was 27th Sept., 1886. Gertrude born in England on 2nd June 1885 arriving in Australia with her two sons Clarence and Ernie (my records show that Ernie was infact Robert so am a little confused at present) she lived at 80 Greenleaf Street Liverpool England. Well atleast someone in the family did, whether a Cubbin or Mines. But think it was Albert and Gertrude or maybe one of Albert's rellies. Hope atleast some of this info will help with anything you can send me, even if it is to clarify same.

Thank you.... Margaret.

Hi Marg,
I was very interested to see that you mention the Cubbin family of Liverpool.
As you may know the Cubbin name originates in the Isle of Man - just a few miles North-west of Liverpool.
My wife's great, great grandmother was Margaret Monica Cubbin, born about 1827/8
In 1851 census she was a servant in Rodney Street, Liverpool.[a wealthy street, even today!!]
In April 1852 she married gggrandad Thomas Ralph Ashley.
Sadly both Margaret and Thomas died in the 1860's and 4 of their children were in the Brownlow Hill "workhouse", Mount Pleasant, Liverpool in 1871.
However, Charlote Amelia Ashley married a rich German immigrant, Ernst Zacharias, and they settled in Waterloo, Liverpool, and raised 5 children - one became a surgeon, another got to own a cotton mill!!
Do any of these names/facts accur in your tree?
Margaret Cubbin's father was John Cubbin, a Joiner by trade.
I hope you may be able to help
Best wishes,
Alan Brooks,
Waterloo,
Liverpool, UK

Hi everyone,

This is what I know so far Robert Cubbin/Cubbon was born in the Isle of Man possibly Malew abt.1797. He married Elizabeth Quayle in Malew IOM in 1818. I have found 1 child born in the IOM Catherine in 1820, sometime after that they have moved to Whitehaven in Cumberland and had 4 more children John b.1827, Mary b. 1829, Robert b.1835, and James 1840. Robert died i think abt.1876 in Whitehaven. Im sure there would have been more children. I'd love to hear from anyone who has had any luck with this side of the family.

Cheers Jodie
Hi,

Here are the following marriages (below) for a Charles L Cubbin and a Charles Lloyd Cubbin that I found listed on the Free BMD site:
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

*********************************************************************************************
Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
___________________________________________________
Marriages June 1866
Cubbin, Charles L. ----Liverpool--8b----88
Worthy, Ellen ----Liverpool--8b---88
___________________________________________________
Marriages Sept. 1884
Cubbin, Charles Lloyd--West Derby---8b--795
McTighe, Ann --West Derby--8b--795
******************************************************************************************
If Charles L. Cubbin and Charles Lloyd Cubbin are one in the same and this is his two marriages, a copy of the marriage records may give you Charles' father's name as well as the father's names of both of his wives.
You may be able to order the marriage records on-line from either Lancashire, or Liverpool record offices . See the website below for county sites and their e-mail addresses.

English Record Offices & Archives on the Web:
http://www.oz.net/~markhow/englishros.htm

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Lionel C.

Yes these names are in my family but the birthdates are a number of years later. My John and Thomas came from the IOM to the US and settled in Memphis, TN raising a large family of which I am the last male in my direct line.

They are buried in Memphis and were major forces in building the city. The Cubbins brickyard is well known in Memphis. As a matter of fact, when work is done downtown there are always BUBBINS bricks dug up. They are amazing. The brickyard was sold in the 1800s and is now the location of the Shelby County Courthouse.

I am trying to find the info I have stored about your family as they were listed in a number of items and in a census showing them to live with my family. I will send ASAP.

I too am related to a Thomas Cubbin who came over to Liverpool between 1891 and 1901and as far as I'm aware right now none of his immediate or extended family were in wirral or liverpool around 1860. The name Cottier doesn't ring any bells either. If you'd care to give me some dates/locations in the iom then I can keep an eye open as I try to unravel the Cubbon genealogy.

My great G/father was Charles Lloyd Cubbin, born June 1843, he had two marriages, and his 2nd marriage to Ann produced my G/father Albert Cubbin. Charles died in 1917, we think, and had around 25 children. With Ann, 2nd wife, he had the following: Evelyn, Nellie who married Wildrid Hare, Ann, Thomas, Albert who married Gertrude Alice Mines , Robert, Harry, and Mary Elizabeth, who married a Thomas Carter Albert and Robert came to Australia in 1912. Robert was killed in WW1 aged 24yrs and Harry was killed in WW1 aged 20 yrs in 1915 his regiment being 6th Dragoon. Guards (Carabiniers) It appears that all lived in Liverpool, England. Maybe you can help or know of someone. Thanks Marg.

I'm looking for Elizabeth's family she could have been born in England or IOM, I don't know. She did marry George Henry Walker in 1866 in Bradden, but their first 4 children were born in Lancs, the 5th back on IOM and before the 6th, about 1873, they had come to Canada, by 1880 they had settled in London, Ontario. She passed away there in 1924. If any of this sounds familiar, I'd love to hear from you!
