born az died in Chula Vista area, San Diego Calif
had found in Az
Parents: Frank/Francis J. Mannion-Leonora Billy
of a Virgina born 9-28-1910 i don't know who she was married
to......frank noted he was born in Ireland & Leonora Billy
in Hermosillo, Sonora Mexico.
any other info if know by someone please advise.

That's my maternal grandfather. Josefa Robles was his stepmother and we have little information on his biological mother Rosario. Genaro has a twin brother (same birth certificate) but he died young (maybe an accident in AZ). They had an older sister (Maria) but we have no info on her. What we don't know is where Pedro Cuen came from, maybe Spain or what happened to Rosario. Thanks

Hello all.
I have been researching my Kewen ancestry, without much luck. My 2nd great Grandmother Bridget spelled her name Kewen. In research on her brothers, i see different spellings of Cuen, Kuen, McKewen, etc....I know her folks came from Ireland, and Bridget was born in Canada west.
Any info that anyone can tie in, would be appreciated.

I writing to let you know that I am related to Petra Cuen. My mother was Frances Appodaca Schembari, born 10/5/1917. She just passed away on June 28, 2010. Her mother was Celestina Stella Suniga, per our records born around 1891, daughter of Petra Cuen, born 1861 and Jose Amelio Suniga born 1842. My mother's father was Paul Appodaca, born 1/25/1887 and died 4/14/1969.

My Mom, Frances came to San Francisco in 1932 at age 15. She married Joseph Schembari on 4/1/1941. He died in July 1989. Mom had two children, me, born 8/15/1943 and Del born 8/27/49.

found in soc sec: Frank Cuen 8-18-1899-March 1975
a friend visiting the Cemetery wrote down the burial site
info.....if anyone knows who they are please advise.

I have the letter that says that they safely made it to Nogales (AZ?). I would be more than happy to discuss anything with you. I'm not too sure about how Francisco Gourdin is related to me. I'm pretty sure he's my Great Great Great Grandfather. I have photos, I have a letter, baptism certificate, I've got a photo album. I have got so much its not even funny. Hey, Francisco Gourdin did marry Mariana Cuen. Francisco Gourdin had a daughter first, then a son, then a daughter and then a son. They had four children. The marriage of Francisco and Mariana occurred on July 16, 1896. They married at Iglesia de Ntra. Wherever that is. And in Los Angeles. Mariana's mother Dolores C. de Cuen gave her away and Joaquina Contreras was present to support her son Francisco's marriage. Their wedding party consisted of: A.R. Zuniga, F.A.F. or T.A.T. Romero, (currsive is too pretty to make out), Patricia Y. Perez, Sra. A. R. de Zuniga, and Senorita Sofia C. Cuen. I also have a letter from Manuela Cole Gourdin, not sure who it is and not sure what it says because its really pretty spanish, but its addressed from Nogales, (AZ I assume), to Mariana Cole Gourdin in Los Angeles, dated July of 1896. The picture I have of Francisco Gourdin was taken in 1870 and the picture of Mariana C. Cuen in 1896. I also have a certificate of baptism, recording Ana Magdalena and Francisco Cuen and Dolores Contreras. Don't read spanish but I'll say what it says and you can translate on your own:

Certifico que Ana Magdalena Cuen hijade Francisco Cuen y Dolores Contreras nacida en los Angeles, California of dia 22 de Julio de 1878. Recibio el bautismo solemne el dia 11 fr zshodyo fr 1878 el R. P. P. Verdaguer Padrinos Jesus Moreno y Lorena Contreras (or Gortano or something like that......) Libro V de Bautismos folio 49 (some symbol is before 49) n2314. Ntra Sra. la Roema de Los Angeles [Old Plaza Church] 535 N. Main St. Los Angeles, Calif 24 de Abril 1922. (signature) Jore Carnela Cruz.?? (I think....)

My Grandmother was Marion Cole Cuen. Not sure who married a Cole; and where Mariana Cuen and Francisco Gourdin was her Grandparents or parents..... But my Grandmother married young and she married Harold Cliford Dawson. They remained married until Harold Dawson committed suicide in 1984 and grandma died of complications from phyneumonia. She was a bit lost with senile dementia near her last two years.

I have plenty of documents, photos, everything. Most are from so long ago that yeah. Don't know who anyone is but some have their names written on the photos. I also have a lot of "postcard" photos. Once I actually had a MEDAL photograph. It was weird but of course, as a young child, I lost it. It was so old, it must have been from the first time that photos were invented. I never even knew you could put a photograph on a small sheet of medal.

Feel free to contact me. I have plenty to donate to any interested family member who would like photos, or clues to our past. My name is Maria and I am 24 years old and live in Yuma, AZ.

My husband is a grandson to Amelia Cuen, who is a daughter to Fransisco and Delores (Contreras). I have a death certificate for Amelia and some information on her siblings from family notes and census records. Francisco Gourdin was my g gr uncle. In the 1920 federal census, Mariana was a widow. What happened to Francisco? Also, Francisco's father, Pedro Gourdin, was a soldier in Maximillians French invaders. Where in France was he from, and what ever became of him, and his wife, Manuela Galves?

Have a copy of Soc Sec for Harvey T. McFarland born 7-7-1908.......his parents s/a John H.Mc Farland-Amelia Cuen, he was born in Los Angeles, Calif..Harvey applied for Soc Sec in 5-9-1938 & noted at the time he live in Los Angeles, Ca.

Peggy.........I've much info on the Cuen line & Pictures. some I know lived in the Kern County Calif...mid 1870's......related family names in that are were Kildare, suniga,Ruiz.....just to note a few..........a Ventura Cuen had children that married into the Ruiz,Suniga,Kildare........I've info on Ventura 1870 down the line.....if any of these sound familar please contact me............Thank You............Cora

Pedro Cuen Jr., 79, of San Diego died Saturday. He was born in Mexico and was the owner of a coin laundry.

Survivors include his wife, Guadalupe; daughters, Norma Cuen of San Diego and Lupe Mota of Tucson; sister, Frances Toledo of Murrieta; brother, Octavio of Los Angeles; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. tomorrow, with rosary at 7 p.m., Greenwood Mortuary, Interstate 805 and Imperial Avenue, San Diego.

Mass: 11 a.m. Thursday, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 345 Anita St., Chula Vista.

Hi, I am looking for information on Pedro Cuen, Ma. Jesus Cuen, Genaro Cuen. They might have lived in the Espiritu-Alamos area in Sonora, Mexico in the late 1890s. Pedro Cuen might have been a musician with the local orchestra back then. They might have a Spanish background but I'm not certain of that. I'd highly appreciate any information. Thanks.

I have a copis of a Death Certificates for Tomasa Cuen 8-16-1899-10-8-1952 Widow.......no husbands name was shown, her Parents: Feliciano Cordova-Mariana Bracamonte. it was noted she & her parents were born in Arizona.....informant of this death was Rita Valenzuela....also have another for
Guadalupe Cuen 12-12-1887-11-27-1953 died in Maricopa County, Az......Husband "Gerado"...Her Parents shown as
Francisco Cuen-Refugia Valenzuela.......informant was Frank Perez.......her son......any further info some one has let me know................Cora

These are the Cuen's i have found so far. Fransisco (Frank) married Dolores G. Contreras. their children are Francisco (B-1877 CA), Mariana (B-1878 CA), Arturo (B-1880 AZ), Alberto (B-1884 AZ), Enrique (B-1885 Mexico), Amelia (B-1886 Mexico), Euesto (B-1889 AZ).
I found them in the all except Frank in the 1900 census in Los Angeles California. Ed 81, Sheet #2A, Los Angeles Precinct No. 59.
I know that Mariana married Francisco Gourdin and had at least 2 children. they all were living with Dolores in 1900. If anyone is interested in the Contreras information or has any more information, please feel free to contact me. i will share what i have. I am actually researching the Contreras side. Good luck to everyone.

Fernando Quinn was born in 1841, exact date I am not sure, however his wife Natividad Saavedra was born in Spain. His son my great grandfather Jesus Maria Cuen was born in France Aug 8, 1871. My grandfather was born October 11, 1916.
