You mention that Nicodemus and Nelida are your mother's grandparents and that her uncle is Isaac. I'm wondering if this is accurate. My grandparents are Nicodemus and Nelida and my great grandfather is Isaac, who is Nicodemus' father.

Hi Helena, My name is Enrique Gandarillas I myself was born in Arecibo and came to the USA when I was 5 years old. My father Enrique Gandarillas Cuevas was born in Lares, but had relatives in Utuado thru his mother who was Adelina Maria Cuevas Rivera, I remember one cousin of his a Maria (I believe she was Rivera) who was married to a Jose Mateo Pagan They lived in El Coche de Los Angeles. Some of their children where Millie ( who had a driver training school and also owned a store in Lares at one time called Millie's Fashion), America, and Jose Jr. who was involved in politics, also another brother drove and was the owner of three school buses he also built his house round instead of square, which I saw when I visited with my father. Are these the same Pagans in your family? Let me know. Enrique

This is indeed interesting - however the Times article makes an error as Jorge de Cuevas, Marques de Piedrablanca y Guana was born in Santiago, Chile, was a Chilean citizen, son of a Chilean politician (Eduardo Cuevas Avaria) - perhaps the error comes from the fact that that the title was granted by the Kings of Spain to the Cortes Monroy family of which Cuevas may have been linked.

In any case it is fascinating and he did have an "american" born son, George de Cuevas, born in the 30's I believe. Hi Irene, I find this information very interesting. My mother was Cuevas, too. Her name is Baldamina Lucy Cuevas. She was born in Utuado in 1930. Her mother's name was Vicente Cuevas. My mother told me that many of Cuevas people live in that area of Utuado, Lares, Hattillo, Cailes (maybe wrong spelling), and Aceribo. I do not know if we happen to be related or not. I learned that my mother's father was once important business man running tobacco plant in Arecibo or somewhere closer. I think it is fun to find out our family roots. :)

Hi, my name is Helena Ngalle. I live in Virginia, and was born in Chicago, Illinois. We, children of Baldamina Lucy Cuevas (my mother) and Ismael Pagan (my father) are first generation born in USA. My mother was born in Utuado. Her mother (my maternal grandmother) was Vicente Cuevas. I forgot her father's name, but he was once important person running tobacco plant in Aceribo, Puerto Rico long time ago. My father's father (my paternal grandfather) was Joseph Pagan. I do not remember my paternal grandmother's mother's name. I know many of relatives still residing in Aceribo, Utuado, Lares, and Hattillo. My mother told me that we had 4 generations following last name: Cuevas, Pagan, Roman and Acebodo (maybe wrong spelling). I wonder if we are related or not. hi, joel, i can not believe i actually got a respond either there aren't many cuevas or they don't have computers. well tell me some of the names on your family tree and we will see if they may match.. i also have rodriguez and balderas. i hope to find some relatives but our end of the cuevas are old and i guess they are running out.where is dr.arroyo in nuevo leon? i am so waiting to hear from you with some names .thanks

I am also a descendant of Juan Cuevas and have done extensive research on his descendants. I also have Nap Cassibry's book. "The Ladner Odyssey".

I am presently trying to find some info (any info available) on Nancy (Elizabeth) Hill. She was the mother of twin sons (Frank Wesley Cuevas and Wilson Victor Cuevas) born in 1871. Their father was James A. Cuevas. I don't know if they were married as I have not been able to find a marriage record for them. Frank Wesley is my great grandfather.

Nancy's branch on my family tree is not growing....I only have a possilble death year of 1928 for her. Nothing more.

Can you help me with this?

A reply will be greatly appreciated, even if you don't have anything on Nancy.

Saw your posting on the ancestry message board dated 12 Sep 2000.

I am also descended from Juan Cuevas through his son Raymond, then his son James A., then his son Frank Wesley, then his son Ernest Frank, then his son Ernest Frank Jr. (my father).

I am interested in the info you have on the cat island award for valor for Juan, and anything on his descendants, especially those listed above. My dad had some info regarding the island award, but lost it in Hurricane Katrina.

Can you share this with me?

I will be happy to share with you anything you may need that I have on our family.

I am presently trying to find info on Nancy (Elizabeth) Hill, the mother of twins (Frank Wesley Cuevas and Wilson Victor Cuevas) born in 1871 to Nancy and James A. Cuevas.

Can you help me out here? All I have on her is that she died possibly in 1928.

Hope to hear from you soon even if you can't add any info on Nancy. It would be fun to share info on the rest of the family!

My name is Elle. I live/born in Chicago. My mom is a Cuevas from Utuado. She was born in 1932 in Utuado her name is Rosalia Cuevas born to Bonnifacia Torres and Evanjelista Cuevas. I dont think I have the spellings of the names correct. Bonnifacia died in 1977 in Chicago, Evanjelista died in Puerto Rico when my mom was 18. My mom doesnt recall her dads parents name any longer. This may or may not be a connection but you never know.

Jose Pagan was also born in the early 1900's but in Utuado so that rules out sister. I know of no one with that name in the family. Guadalupe Pagan could be a cousin whose family moved away. You may want to find out if the family lived in Utuado at one time. Try talking to any know living relatives to find out if the family came from Utuado. Research church records in Ponce also. Wish you luck.

Hello Elba Cuevas my name is Enrique Gandarillas my father also Enrique Gandarillas Cuevas was born in Bo. Mirasol my grandmother was Adelina Maria Cuevas Rivera, Her parents were Avelino Cuevas Centeno and Vicenta Rivera ?. I remember my father talk about a Pura Cuevas who lived in a small wooden house in the town of Lares that caught on fire on 2-Feb-1945 and burned half the town to the ground no lives were lost as far as I know. He also visited a cousin who was a Cuevas married to a Jose Pagan in Utuado Bo El Coche de los Angeles. Not sure if that's right. Let me know if this is the same family Thank You Enrique.
