First, there is a very good sale on new DNA tests until June 30, click the link below or contact me directly at berniecullen@gmail.com

DNA testing has found links, sometimes going back hundreds of years, between families that use different spellings and/or belonged to different churches:

1) A Cullinan born in Co. Waterford matched an Irish-American with ancestors from Waterford who uses the spelling Cullen.

2) A Catholic Cullinan with roots in Kerry looks like he matches two Protestant Collins families from the southern US which have been in the US since the 1700s--further testing to confirm this is underway.

3) A man in England who comes from a Protestant Cullen family from Ireland tracing back to the 1700s at least matches our largest group of Cullens, the "O'Cullens" of Wicklow.

In many case, these DNA tests are confirming family traditions, sometimes the connections between families are unexpected. Everyone researching their family history who named Cullen or who has a living male Cullen relative should seriously consider taking a DNA test--some are less than $100, you just scrape the inside of your cheek to give a sample, and you can keep your results private if you like.
