Looking for family of Elizabeth Cullen, born about 1767 in Dublin. She married Thomas Wilkinson and had at least two children: Patrick (my 3rd great grandfather), born around 1800 and Anna, born in 1803. Patrick immigrated to Canada (Montreal) about 1822, Where he married Mary Anne Lavery in 1825, and died during the cholera epidemic in 1831.

Date: 1882; Baptism name: Margaret Mary; Surname: Power; Parents names: Patrick Power & Honora CULLEN; Residence: Conception Hr. (my note: Hr. is abbrev. for Harbour); .....

This all I know about my GrGrandparents. I've been trying to find more info. on both my CULLEN & POWER families.

Hello...wondering if your CULLEN family would be related/connected to the CULLEN families in Conception Harbour, Nfld area. Considering that centuries ago when families emigrated from Ireland/England/Scotland to Newfoundland, many families settled & moved around to the various settlements, communities, towns for fishing, employment & family reasons.

I have CULLEN ancestry & have been trying to go back from around 1880's.

Trying to locate info on Peter Cullen (born ~1828 in Ireland). He died in 1896 in Cleveland, OH. Peter started Cullen Bros. Brickyard in ~ 1893.

He married Mary Martin (b. 1830 in Ireland).

They had four children: Minnie Cullen, John Cullen (my great grandfather), James F. Cullen, and Thomas Victor Cullen.

If any of you can give me some info regarding Peter I would greatly appreciate it.

Brothers Richard Cullen(born 1798 in Great Gonerby, Lincolnshire) and Thomas Cullen(born 1801 also in Great Gonerby) left in 1822 for USA on board the ship"Emulous". The parents of the brothers were George Cullen and Dorothy Pickworth. Richard was accompanied by his spouse the former Mary Robinson. The couple in 1822 married in Great Gonerby.

I haven't been able to find any of them in USA sources. If you have any info, it would be greatly appreciated.

Blanche Cullen (father of illigitimate child 1917)

In October of 1917 Blanche gave birth to my mother and then left her at a home for unwed mothers / orphanage in Debuque Iowa. Records indicate she was born under the name of Arvilla Cullen. Arvilla was later adopted and her name was changed to Helen Virginia Kane; after marriage her last name was changed to Marten.
Blanche died several years ago and took the name of Arvillas' father to the grave with her. Mom died 2 years ago knowing we were still searching for her fathers name. I am looking for help in doing so. We know he lived in Rockford Ill in 1917 and we believe he was Italian. These are some of the names of individuals possibly having information that have popped up along the way: Mary Fowler; Crotty sisters; Manuella Scrol Fisher and Maria Grenke-Snider. Any info qould be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Yes. You refer to the first Mary Dunbar Cullen. (The one born in 1831)
I see her referred to sometimes as "Mary (May) Dunbar".
My great grandfather(John) had a sister "Mary Dunbar", and in turn named his daughter (my grandmother) Mary Dunbar Cullen.

Thank you. Mary (Dunbar) Cullen was a daughter of Hugh Dunbar and Una MacQuarrie. Her grandparents were John Dunbar and Janet MacIntosh and Allan MacQuarrie and Janet MacLean.

How interesting. Then you're in the line with the Keith's. My g grandfather was John, who married Bridget Cardiff. I have the basic structure of the Cullens going back to Thomas, and I knew about the Crawfords and the paisley thing(and poor humble Robert). But you've fleshed it out for me a little more. I did not know about Thomas's mother
having the name Brownlee and being Scottish. Also the Napoleonic war
connection is rather neat. Also, I've never heard Drogheda, County Louth mentioned. Thanks so much for this new info.

I descend from David Cullen's sister, Annie (Cullen) Keith. She was my maternal great2 grandmother. Her grandfather Thomas Cullen married Margaret Adam on 4 January 1806 at Stevenston, Ayrshire, Scotland. Thomas Cullen's father, Robert Cullen was Irish. His mother, Isobel Brownlee, was Scottish. Thomas was born in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland (presumably where his father came from). He served in the British Navy during the Napoleonic Wars. After his service was finished, he made his way to near Motherwell, Scotland where his mother was from to find work in the coal mining industry in and around Glasgow. Margaret (Adam) Cullen was a daughter of John Adam and Janet Caldwell. Robert Cullen, son of Thomas and Margaret, married Janet Crawford, daughter of David and Ann (Hunter) Crawford of Paisley, Scotland. David Crawford was a son of Hugh Crawford and Elizabeth Ross. Ann (Hunter) Crawford was a daughter of John Hunter and Janet Dickson.

Bridget Cardiff was my great grandmother. Her daughter, Mary Dunbar
Cullen was married to my grandfather, Vincent Kirby. Mary's birth certificate shows that she was born in 1899 in PEI. So It was probably shortly after that when John and Bridget moved to Stellarton, since I know my grandmother Mary grew up there.
I have very little info on the Cardiff's, so your post is very helpful. Thank you!

You may not even receive this, as your original email is from 2005,
but it caught my eye since we have the same great grandparents.- John and Bridget. I'm the granddaughter of Mary Dunbar Cullen Kirby. She emigrated to Massachusetts in 1918-19 approximately, after growing up in Stellarton. Clarence and Anne were my grandmothers brother and sister. I remember her mentioning Clarence quite often.

Walter Herbert Cullen was first married to a Claire, they had two children that I know of. Walter Edward and Claire. As far as his marriage to Ruth, I believe they had a daughter Adelle. Walter Edward is my grandfather, although he died before my parents even met.

I don't know if this will help, but Abon Hassan's first husband was a Walter Edward Cullen aka Frank Gillette. He was an acrobat and had two sons with Abon, a Walter Herbert Cullen and an Edward Cullen although my records show he died around the age of 14 in 1909 only a couple of years after Abon is shown to have married Melville. Walter Herbert is show to have had two children [Walter Edward, Claire] with his first wife [Claire] and another two [Merriam Ruth?, Adelle] that I know if with his second wife [Ruth].

Mary Cullen Kane was 67 years old when she died in 1895 in New York City. Her father was John and her mother was Mary (no maiden name provided).

Still looking for the origins of my greatgrandmother.
T;hink they came from Cork. Father was Michael Cullen, Mother
was Mary O'Brian. Margaret was born approx 1842 so for the

No, I'm not related, just enjoy the search, its addictive.
If that was your James Cullen, he was back with his family by the 1911 census, so may not have been away that long,( It may not be him), nearly 50% of the names I have searched for have a possible prison record, some of the reasons for imprisoning people seem very minor by todays standards.
I found a possible marriage for him, District Delvin, Year 1882, Jan-Mar, volume 3, page 157, but couldn't find his wifes matching entry, so very hard to say if its them.

There is a birth for Michael Cullen with mothers name recorded, Ellen/Ellina/Helen Dempsy, plus some of Ellen and laughlins other children.
