In reply to Norma L. Cullison Myers

Fred Cullison Tasher was my father; Jacob Tasher was my grandfather; Lillie Cullison was my grandmother. I am not able to find any thing on Jacob Tasher. I was told that he went to Alaska when my father was a boy and was going to send for my grandmother and the children but was never from again. Any information I can get would be appreciated.

Irish / Scottish Heritage

I looking for the link(s) to the Cullison family's European history. I'm not concerned with where they moved to, or their history in the US, rather where they were from in Europe and their history there. After all that's where the genealogy should start. I believe Cullison could be a deteriorated/distorted form of the Irish surname Sully. I also have some records that it is a Scottish surname, (often spelled differently- i.e. Coulson, Colison, etc,) possibly a Sept surname under the Clan MacDonald. If anyone can either confirm/deny or add to this information it would be of great help. I hope to find the European ancestors as far back as the times of kings and queens- possibly a coat of arms or a tartan. Acurate information gets first response; speculation welcome.

Volume II, Cullison Descendants from Maryland Westward, St. Mary’s County Roots, is now available.
This book covers the descendants of Joseph and John Cullison of St. Mary’s County, Maryland as well as the descendants of William Cullison of Loudoun County, Virginia who may be a brother to Joseph Cullison of St. Mary’s County. The approximately 370 page volume is indexed and contains maps and pictures.
The story of the St. Mary’s County Cullisons, many of whom earned their livelihood on the Chesapeake Bay and rivers of Maryland, contrasts with the stories of the descendants of Bennett, son of John, many of whom were drawn to the legal profession and some of whom became judges.
Also included in Volume II is a chapter on the black Cullisons of St. Mary’s County and a chapter with corrections to Volume I, Cullison Descendants from Maryland Westward, Baltimore County Roots, published in 2000, 745 pages, which covered the descendants of William, Jesse and Eb’n Cullison of Baltimore County, Maryland.

Introductory prices for Volume II, are: $40.00 softcover; $46.00 hardcover.
It pays to order at the introductory prices since after April 15, 2001, the list price for softcover will be $59.50 while hardcover bindings are an additional $12.00, or $71.50 for Volume II.

Both Volumes may be ordered from Higginson Book Co. (978-745-7170)
Consult Higginson Book Co. for current prices on Volume I.

Please allow 6-12 weeks for delivery of your copy after ordering.
(This was a non-profit project and the prices quoted cover the printing costs. I receive no royalties from sales.)
Cullison Family in MD before 1790

For the past 20 years, I have been researching this family, beginning in MD and following them west.
It appears that there were three Cullison brothers in early Baltimore Co. records, Jesse, William and Eb'n with possibly sisters Martha and Susanna.
Most of their descendants went to Ohio, then Indiana and Illinois before going further west.
There also were Cullisons in St. Mary's Co., about 1742, but I have not been able to make a connection between the two groups of Cullisons in MD.
I have information on both groups and will share.

Bruce Cullison and Minnie Weiss

I have a booklet titled " The Bruce and Minnie Cullison Family History" dated December 1, 1960. My mother Bessie Edna Weiss Miller attended many of the Cullison family reunions as she was a half sister to Minnie Weiss Cullison.
Christian Weiss was the father; however, each a
had a different mother.

I have located other half sisters: Emma Weiss was a full sister to Minnie, there is a Jennie that was a half sister to my mother but may not have been to Minnie. Also, there is an Effie that is related. The mothers names range from Dozier, Curry, Reaugh, etc.

If anyone can give me a hand in straightening this mess out I certainly would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Ken Miller
