POW/MIA Korean War, CULP

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Allegheny County, Pennsylvania as his home of record.

Soldier: CLAYTON JAMES CULP
Born: 1929
Date of loss: September 19, 1952 MIA
US52179802
E Co 38th Inf Rgt, 2nd Inf Division

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find these families. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating these families.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Also have the names Daniel and Lizzie Culp on our list of relatives buried in Fryburg.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. We are trying to complete a family history in memory of my mother-in-law who died in 1994. Thanks!!

Cora Kulp, d/o of Darlington R. Kulp and Elizabeth Gilbert in PA

I am trying to locate the exact date of birth and death and possibly marriage of Cora Kulp, daughter of Darlington R. and Elizabeth Gilbert who lived in Pennsylvania. She most likely she died between 1893 and 1899, although this isn't certain. She had eleven brothers and sisters, three of which died in childhood or infancy. She is not on the 1880 census, at which time her family was living in Shamokin, Northumberland County, although this could be a mistake on the part of the census taker. However, my best guess is that she was born either between 1851 and 1855, or between 1861 and 1867. Also, Cora Kulp is not mentioned in the Farrow funeral records (Shamokin), which has records since the 1870's, indicating that she was married. If so, she was either married to someone outside of Shamokin, or was married after 1880, as according to the 1880 census there were only 39 people by the first name of Cora living in Shamokin and none seem to fit what I know about her.

I would be happy to hear from anyone who can tell me more about this person, or anyone who may be related.

Thanks,

Val

I volunteer at the Culp DNA site and I just wanted to let everyone know that there is a Holiday Special going on for the KOLB & CULP DNA Projects. So if anyone has a male with the last name of Culp or Kolb they can test at a reduced price. The test must be purchased by by Dec 31, 2007 to use the special price.

A project admin. must make the certificate arrangements after the order is placed, so an "invoice" arrangement avoids having to have a credit on your credit card - but that is possible. You'll need to tell us the kit number for us to be able to apply a certificate.

Here are the links to each project:

http://www.familytreedna.com/DNAList.asp?Group=Kolb

http://www.familytreedna.com/DNAList.asp?Group=Culp

Thanks

Bev Culp Epstein

Seth D. Culp

I am stuck as I can only go back to my grandfather, Seth D. Culp who was born February 1, 1856. I heard he was one of 3 or 4 siblings but don't know any names nor where they were born. I do not know his parents names which is what I would like to see if anyone can help here by having some connection. His first wife was an American Indian, of which there was one child, a girl who had a club foot. His second wife was Samantha Richardson from Grand Rivers, KY. I would appreciate any possible information which might help me to continue my research. Can contact me at LHSRetired@aol.com.

Those of you who are searching for Culp family trees might want to look at the Culp DNA site for family trees posted there with DNA results. My family line is on the Kolb results page since I can trace my line back to Hans Casper Kolb. His family all changed the spelling to Kulp and then to Culp. The site for the Kolb DNA is http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/k/kolb/
The site for Culp is http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/c/culp/

Hans Casper Kolb/Culp Landmap/plots of SC

I have 2 maps that show the land area that the family of Hans Casper Kolb settled in Fishing Creek now Chester County SC, originally Camden Dist. These are approximately 1760 and 1770 landholders. One is “Land Surveys on Fishing Creek and South Fork between York Line and Rodman”. The other is “Early Surveys West of Lando, SC”. Hans Casper Kolb was 1st in Bucks County PA and moved to SC about 1750. These maps show the plots of Peter Culp and Henry Culp plus many other names. These were 1st published in the Chester Historical Societies “The Bulletin”. They are not for sale or resale, they are intended for personal use only. I will share these with those who are researching this family.

Culps In Texas

I am looking for my Culp family history and I'm at a stand still. Most of the Culps I know and are related to currently live in Texas, alot of them in Bell County Texas. I would like to research my family tree back to the 1600's atleast but can't even get into the 1800's. Here is the information I know about my family

My Father- Jerry Culp Sr, Born in Georgetown Tx in 1948 to Louise Warren of Athens Alabama who married his father Virgil Culp of Belton Tx. They had six kids including my father Jerry Culp Sr, also was Shirlely Culp, Johnny Culp, Billy Culp, Mary Culp, Jean Culp.

My great grandmothers name on the culp side of the family was Bessie Warren, I don't know when she was born but she died in Temple, texas in the early to mid eighties.

I don't know if this is of any help to anyone that may be related to me but if it is or if you could help me, could you please email me at mydonkeydich@aol.com You can also add me to your buddy list if you would like and we can talk that way as well....Thank you.....Jerry

Culp in Monroe Co., Arkansas

Attention Culp Researchers: Monroe Co., AR Marriage Records Book D Pg 122; "Culp to Poke" "...on the 22 day of January 1865 ...I did duly join in marriage David Culp of the county of Monroe...26 years and Jane Poke of the county of Monroe...22 years..." "J. D. Campbell, J. P."
Does anyone know of this "David Culp"? Jane Poke may be Pruscilla Jane Polk (born abt 1843, Chester Co., SC), the oldest daughter of Charles T. Polk by his first wife Winney Susannah Key. If this is true, please note that Charles T. Polk's second wife was Elizabeth Amanda Culp (born 1825, Chester Co., SC). Also the daughter of J. D. Campbell the J.P.was Nancy Campbell who married John George Polk (born 10 Nov 1847, Chester Co., SC) the son of Charles T. Polk and Elizabeth Amanda Culp Polk. All of these were Monroe Co. residents in 1865.
Sincerely, Roy Polk, (Saline Co., AR)
When we recently took apart the frame that held my grandfather's baptisimal certificate, we discovered a very large, old, old photograph with the following information written on the back:

"Norah Culp Schrock --
My father Henry J. Culp, born in Ohio, 1840 -1926. His mother Sarah Whisler Culp, born in Ohio."

And, on the back side of a piece of wood used for the frame backing we also found a lable with the following written:

"'Mommy' was born Mar 2 - 1818. She was Grandpa Culp's mother. I was 22 yrs old when Henry Culp was born in 1840. I have a little bit off of the base of Mommy's & John Culp's grave stone in the old Yellow Crick cemetery."

If you are interested in the photograph or can shed any light on who these people are, please feel free to email me. I have been trying to figure out if there is any relation to my grandfather, who was Herman Moritz. He lived in Rhinelander, WI. The confirmation certificate was dated 1926.

I have hand-typed pages of information on the descendants of Nathan N. Culp, Jr., born in S. Carolina. He was married to Mary Ann E. (born in GA..and could've been his 2nd wife).

This also contains information about his grandfather, John Culp, born somewhere between 1760 - 1775, married to Ann Neely. He had brothers named Austin, Benjamin and Henry.

There's speculation that John Culp was the son of Peter Culp, who was the son of Hans Casper.

I'd be glad to fax this information to anyone who wishes to see it. Margaret (?) Boone, Lagro, Wabash Co., IN - 7 Nov 1867 Then 17 Nov 1872 to Mary Elizabeth Boone in Denton, Denton Co., TX. Wives names are probably not exactly correct, but hopefully close.
Texas - Mose Culp

Seeking info on Mose/Moses Culp, born about 1875 probably in TX. I just found an obit for my ancestor's sister, Buena, who married a man named Mose Culp. Buena died before they were married a year and they had no children, so Mose probably married again, perhaps around Coryell or Bosque Co TX in the early 1900's. I did locate a Richard Moses Culp, who could be the one I'm looking for, who married a Kellogg and had several children. Perhaps he was married prior to that marriage, as he was born in 1876 which fits the date. Any help would be appreciated. rhall@cisaz.com.

I am researching a CULP family line in Drums Pennsylvania (Luzerne County). All I know is Myrtle Beisel's mother, Mary Salome Culp 1859-1930, lived in Drums possibly on a small farm of her parents. The name's of her parent's, I believe, are Abram and Sarah Culp. Abram was born in 1852. I have no information on the mother/wife.

Any information, leads, or ideas as to where I might be able to search starting from them would be appreciated. This seems to be a major brick wall!

Thanks
