I knew when the Lavaca County was mentioned it would concern the line of Francis Gillespie Culpepper. He and his family group traveled by wagon train to South Texas. I do not know why that particular area was chosen. I believe that the family story is pretty accurate that when they came to a place to stop he got out on the ground and said "this will be our Home Sweet Home. He thus provided the eventual name for Sweet Home Texas. He lived to be 99 1/2 years old. My ancestor William Henry also lived to be quite old as did several of their siblings.
I know one other descendant of Francis Gillespie who lived in Dallas, Texas. I live near Dallas in Grand Prairie, Texas.
William Henry and his wife Sarah Leslie lost three sons in the Civil War. His son John Malcolm survived. In about 1888 John Malcolm and his family moved from Randolph Co. Alabama and migrated first to Arkansas and then on to Hopkins County Texas.
It is not supposed to make much difference but next time you try the Culpepper Chronicles Web site put in this address Http://www.gen.culpepper.com or do a search for Culpepper Chronicles. It is a fantastic source for Culpepper information Mostly the research of a man named Lewis Griffin. I appreciate your response.
