Louise M. Culpepper (d.1996, Fort Smith, AK) related to descendant of Harry Christopher Culpepper?

Louise M. Culpepper (d.1996, Fort Smith, AK) related to descendant of Harry Christopher Culpepper?

In the early 1990s my Aunt Lillard Irene Broome Riaff was cared for by a “Louise Culpepper” of Fort Smith. My aunt passed away in 1998 and we were never able to connect back with “Louise”. Though ancestry.com I learned a “Louise M. Culpepper” of Van Buren, AK passed away on 11 Aug 1996. My Aunt Lillard Irene Broome Riaff’s father was Charles Walter Broome, Sr (1860-1949). He had a sister Julia Ethel Broome London (1863-1957). Julia had two daughters; Jessie and Dillard (1890 – 1977). Dillard married Harry Christopher Culpepper (1880-?). They had four sons; Harry C., John L., Arthur C and Harry W.
We never knew if our aunt’s caregiver, Louise Culpepper was a cousin (a descendant of Dillard London and Harry Christopher Culpepper). I am hoping to connect with the Culpepper cousins of mine and also to find out about my Aunt Lillard’s caregiver. Thank you. Jack W. Broome, jwbroome@yahoo.com
Dr. James Furman Culpepper

I am a decedent of Dr. James Furman Culpepper as my grandmother and his neice, Susan Govan Rice, was raised by him and his wife, Jennie. My research into Dr. Culpepper has shown me that he was a unbelievable man as are most of the Culpeppers. I want to learn as much as I can about him and the Culpepper family as well as the family of my grandmothers' (Susan Rice) family. I am especially curious as to what happened to the children that Dr. Culpepper (I guess my great-grandfather) and his first wife, Mary had. In addition, the website states that when his second wife, Roxie, died, she left behind two children which I guess were the two from the first marriage. I am truly confused as the Dr. James F. Culpepper family plot is in Timmonsville and I find buried there, Dr. Culpepper, his three wives, Susan Rice and Walter Carter, James Furman Carter(who died as a child), James Furman Carter, Jr. (my brother who died as a teenager) and Walter S. Carter, Jr. (my father). So what happened to the other children?

Also, I saw on website a note from Mary Lewis Ash that said that my grandmother was the brother of her grandfather, George Baynham Rice. I would love to talk with her somehow.

I hate that I never got to know the Culpepper or Rice families but apparently when my father married my mother, he was not allowed contact with his side of the family.

On an added note, my grandmother, Susan Rice, remained in Dr. Culpepper's home in Timmonsville, SC after marrying my grandfather, Walter Stewart Carter. The house passed to my father and I was raised in that same house and his small doctor's office was in the backyard. Unfortunately, the house was sold in 1994 when my father died. It was a sad day

I would love to find out more....

In the familly of my first cousin, Billy Minter Culpepper b. Aug 23, 1911 I believe one of his daughters was referred to with Gay in her name. It was possibly a middle name. I heard him discuss his family numbers of times but I do not have their names recorded. Only use this as a clue/hint or starting point.
Billy Minter Culepper was the son of James Benjamin Culpepper, Grandson of William Jehu Culpepper and GR-Grandson of John Malcolm Culepper.
I don't know about military service. Minter would be about the right age for WWII. Tommie

I am desperately seeking relatives of a Wm. E. Culpepper from Laurens County Ga. That would be the town of Dublin.
Culpeper, Hamilton in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook

RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA)

Culpeper, Hamilton

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes).

I extracted all of the names (& some other information) from the yearbook & have put them on my genealogy web site (total of 13 web pages, containing over 1,900 records; sorted alphabetically by surname).

The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Please note that I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site, not just data about the families I am researching. I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .

Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

LADY CULPEPPER ELIZABETH JEPHEBE WESTPHAL
My husband's gggg grandmother was Elizabeth Jephebe Westphal (Westfall) born 1705 New York state. Her husband was Michael Peter Harness Snr. Her parents were Jurian Westphal and Syntie (Christina) Van Kuykendall. For some reason all the records add 'Lady Culpepper' after her name but nobody seems to know why. We cannot find any record of her marrying a Culpepper nor of her having any Culpepper ancestor. Don't know if the 'Lady' was an aristocratic title or an assumed one.

Can anyone help solve the puzzle please.
Carol

I am looking for my ancestors. My grandfathers name was Dennis Willard Culpepper and his mothers name was Kanzeda Minurva (?) Sees or Cease? The family name was Culpepper at some point in history but I get differing stories on when and why it changed to Pepper. I know that Dennis was born either 1914 or 15 and I think he was born in WV. I also know that his father passed when he was young but that his mother lived until age 93. If you know of anything PLEASE let me know!!! Thank you.

I had the family history book and during a recent flood the entire family history that I had was destroyed. I was trying to find someone who could help me in locating this family history
I do know it was quite a large book and would be more than happy to pay for this and or any copy that I could receive from someone. I remember talking with several of the Culpeppers at one of the family reunions in Sweet . o if anyone could help me I would really appreciate it. I know that my grandmother was one of 22 children.

So if anyone could help me I would really appreciate it.

God Bless

Marilyn Phillips

They are buried at Oconee Baptist Church Cemetery in Jackson County, Ga. Her grave has a monument. His grave is unmarked.

Have unsubstaniated info that there was a Lord Culpepper in England who was given a large land grant in Virginia. It is my understanding that Culpepper, Virginia received it's name from the Culpepper family.

My information is somewhat detailed but seems to be partly copied from "Coats of Arms" info.
Matthew Culpepper-Mary Rutland, 1896, Simpson and Covington Cos, MS

Hi,

In researching the Rutlands of south MS, I have come across still another question.
I have a Matthew Culpepper married Mary Rutland, April 18, 1896 in Simpson Co, MS. They are found on the 1900 Covington Co MS census. Mary E. Culpepper is buried in the Rutland Cemetery near Mt. Olive in Covington Co. Her date of death is Aug 1, 1902.

BLM records show Mary E Culpepper, formerly Mary E. Rutland, patented 160 acres in Covington Co, June 16, 1906.

I know that a lot of these land patents were actually recorded much later, but if that is the case, why was it still recorded in Mary's name and not Matthew's since Mary was dead by 1906. Or was she? Is the date of death wrong? If so, when did she die?

Mary Rutland Culpepper was the daughter of Hamilton Cooper Rutland and Libbie Ivy Rutland. Who were Matthew's parents? There are no children in 1900. Did they have any children? When did Matthew die and where is he buried?

Thanks for any help in filling in the spaces.

Loretta

Simmie (Sim) Culpepper

I am searching for any information on my grandfather, Sim Culpepper. He has been missing since my dad, S.L. (also named
Simmie) was 7. This would make it around 1929. Sim was married to Lizzie, her full name is Mary Elizabeth. The 1920
census has his name spelled Cime. They lived in the Fordtown/Cromwell, AL area. He was known to play the fiddle at local
barn and school dances.
I am also looking for his sisters, Willie and Eunice. Maybe their children or grandchildren have heard what may have
happened to him.
I would appreciate any information. Thanks

Hi, Looking for information on Sarah or Sara Elizabeth Culpepper. I believe she was married to John Toombs around Paris, Tenn. They had three children, a son, John and daughter Eula Elizabeth( my Grandmother born in 1908 ) and one that died. John Toombs ( the father) died at a young age. Then Sarah (?) married a James William Dehart and they had 4 children, Barny, Ferby, Molly and James. I have learned that Sarah is buried in Ashland, Texas, having died in 1947. However, all searches I have done show Nothing about her. ANY help would be Greatly Appreciated!! I have been told her son, John Toombs married a woman named Hazel Powell..hope this triggers some connections!! Take Care..Diane
