I have two small watercolour paintings about 4"x6" of country scenes with a stream and person standing depicting summer and winter; however, they are not the same scene. There is no date showing, though it could be below the frame, which we have never removed. My wife was given these by her mother who was born and raised in Toronto.

George and Sarah CULVERWELL, London Eng 1851 onwards

Hi all,
I am helping a friend with her Culverwell line. George Culverwell born c 1823 Devon (as per 1881 census) married c 1857 Sarah WALKER (bn Cheshunt Herefordshire April 1836).
Unable to locate any of the family in 1851, 1861 or 1871 census, so only have 1881 to go by (Sarah was a widow by 1891 census).
Children of the marriage ( all born London, Kensington area) George bn c 1858, Emily c bn 1864, Frederick bn c 1867, Archibald bn April 1870, Annie bn c 1873, Joseph bn c 1875.

George junior married Elizabeth and had one child; Emily emmigrated to Brisbane, Australia and married, Annie supposedly married William Perkins and migrated to Argentina where at least 2 daughters Margaret and Grace were born, but when William died, they returned to London, where Annie remarried (to unknown male)and daughter Grace went to Brisbane to live with her aunt Emily Culverwell. Any information regarding any of the above would be greatly fully received,
regards

Lesley
Melbourne, Australia
Only recently we discovered that he had been
married previously in 1877 to Johanna Griffin
(before he married my gt. grandmother Annie Kate Newbery Ruggles). T.
E. and Johanna had 4 children . Two
daughters that both died within a year of their births and Thomas Edward
born 1881 in Holborn, and James Charles born
1883. Johanna Griffin was charged with the murder of James Charles
when he was only 5 weeks old , she drowned
him. However, she was tried as being mentally unfit and was committed
to the Insane Asylum. She was the first
woman to be tried as such. (I guess now it would be called Post Partum
Depression from Childbirth) Thomas Edward
(the child) disappeared and in 1890 Thomas Edward Sr. married Annie .
On his marriage certificate it states that he was
a batchelor. As I said I have the Culverwell records back to 1600 and
if we could connect your T. E. jr. to mine I would
gladly send this information on to you.

I am looking for information or places to find information on land ownership in the Somerset area. During the 1800's and prior, the Culverwells (George Woodhouse Culverwell and his father George Culverwell) are thought to have lived in West Monkton, Nether Stowey and either Wilton or Williton.

If anyone has direct information on the Culverwells or knows of the best resources (tax assessments etc) I would apprecite your information and guidance.

I need your help. Would you please look up anything on the following
and get me the census returns if possible?

There is an entry in the 1930 Federal Census for a Thomas E. age 50,
born in England and with English parents, living in Detroit in Wayne
County, Michigan. He is a steelworker and is married to Sadie L, age
52, born in Michigan with Michigan parents. He first married at 47 and
she at 36. His father-in-law is living with them, Charles A St John,
age 83, a widow, born Michigan of a New York father and an English
mother. There seems to have been a community of C~ in Wayne County -
the census records 10.

I am interested in all of the Culverwell name. It has been a long
struggle to find this Thomas Edward Culverwell born to my gt.
grandfather and his first wife. We thought he may have died at an early
age but this has proven to be not true.

Whilst there, they had two daughters, Margaret b.c 1898 and Grace b c 1900. William died in Argentina in the 1900-1908 period, Annie returned to England with the girls and remarried. we have been unable to locate the girls birth records or Williams death record.
Any help on locatingmarriage record for Annie Culverwell 1890-1897 would be greatly appreciated.
Lesley Australia

I am trying to locate details on MARGARET PERKINS, said to have been born in Tucaman, Argentina around 1898. Her parents were William Perkins and ANNIE CULVERWELLm c 1895. Both William and Annie were English. Annie returned to England when William died, taking the girls with her. When in England Annie remarried (we do not know to whom)around 1910.The girls were not included in the new family. Margaret went to Canada whilst still a teenager, and was said to have joined the army as a nurse. The younger sister Grace went to australia, where she married, had three children and died in her 30's. Contact was lost with Margaret at this time. I hope this rings bells with you!!
regards,
Lesley Australia
