Dana, My line is through Narcissa's brother Wade Hampton.I did some family research briefly in 1986 and received some information from Dorothy Brackens.I found this about three weeks ago.First I have two listings of W.H.Cumbee in the civil war records.Firstis confederate army south carolina state troopers pvt.co.2nd regiment south caorlia troopers.Dates August 1st.,1863 to february 2nd.1864.the second pvt.co.K.5th regiment of South Carolina reserves november 10th 1862. to february 10, 1862.Next item I have is deeds of Hammond Cumbo, the first has him selling his land to Jesse Salcher. This deed is from December 1855 and has Z.P.Claxton as a witness. At the top of the deed it says Thomas Cumbo to Jesse Salcher. Is this a clerical error or does this mean anything?another part of the deed has Hammond Cumbo buying some land from Jeptha Couch and Elizabeth Couch. My grandfather Watson Cumby's grandmother on his mother's side was a Couch with indian blood. My grandfather Watson looked indian and so did several brothers and sisters. Is there anything to this?was there a group of indians in Edgefield that were hiding thier identity? Also as far as Stephen goes I believe he was the father of Hammond. The Cumby men in our line hadchildren late in life.Hammond was 50 when his last child was born.Wade Hampton cumby was 60 years old when my grandfather Watson Andrew was born, watson was 40 years old when his son was born and Watson Andrew Cumby jr. was 37 when his son was born.If you want a copy of the deed let me know.thank you.
