Yes, I have James Cummins in my database. He was the first son of Christopher Cummins Sr. and an unknown woman. James was born abt 1795 in Kentucky County Virginia about the time Kentucky became its own state. He was supposed to have died in KY in 1861. James married three times. His first wife was Hester Nesbit, b. abt 1795 in KY; d. 1834 in KY. They must have married before 1824. The birthdates of their first few children seem to be open to debate, but it seems that Julia Ann was born abt 1825 and died in 1899. She married 10 June 1847 in Bracken County KY to Nimrod McCarty (McCarthy). Their marriage bond was published 23 Apr 1847 on page 200 of the Bracken County Marriage Bonds Volume for 1797-1859. Her name is spelled July Ann Cummins, but it is assuredly Julia Ann. Nimrod McCarty and Nathaniel McCarty offer security and Alfred Murray attests to the bond. Nimrod was born abt 1825 and died in Willow Creek. His father was Nathaniel McCarty. They had 8 children: Mary Hester, David, James Thomas, John W., Charles, Martha, Henry, and Sarah.
James Cummins was the first known of Christopher's children, born abt 1795 and my ancestor, Elijah, was born the last of Christopher's children 19 July 1848 to his third wife Susan Crawford. Chris Sr. was still having children when his granddaughter Julia Ann was about to give birth to his great grand daughter Mary Hester in 1849.
How are you connected to the Cummins family?

Nimrod McCarty Julia Cummins'daughter, Sarah, married John Calvin Breckenridge Ramey in Pendleton County, KY. They were my maternal great grandparents. I am curious where you found Nimrod's father to be Nathaniel. I have spoken with another researcher who seems to be sure that it is David McCarty and his mother is Rachel Price. Thank you so much for the information concerning the marriages. I haven't had a chance yet to go back that far. May I ask how you are connected to the Cummins family?

I, too, have a Cummins connection in Kentucky. I have Julia Cummins m. Nimrod McCarty. They were from the Bracken and Pendleton County areas of Kentucky. I've been told by another researcher that Julia is the daughter of James Cummins and Hester "Hetty" Nesbit and that James' father was Christopher Cummins. However, I haven't had time yet to verify this information.

False entry in Ky line with Daniel Cummins

Someone had emailed me a GEDCOM containing Daniel Cummins as being in my line, my Aunt Sally had researched in Falmouth, Ky. and told me that the Cummins were from Scotland, yet Daniels' line was from Austria. After looking at the dates, it seems that Daniel was supposed to have a son named Christopher Cummins Sr. b. 8/17/1778 d. 1/15/1860 who married Elizabeth Davis, now this Daniel Cummins supposedly married Mildred Coney 3/27/1821, this cannot be, either the dates are wrong or they are the wrong people. Christopher was born 50 years before the marriage of his mother and father. Can someone lend some light on this subject.

Thanks a bunch,
Cathy

On your posting you have names from VA & KY. Can you tell me about a Daniel Cummins b. 1765 VA & died abt 1844 in KY? My paternal grandmother was a Gladys Cummins married to Sherman Hance. From what I can gather, her father was William Johnston Cummins b. 1878, KY and d. 1954 in MO. His father was Willis or Wilson Cummins b. 1856 in KY and d. 1899 in MO. His father was William Johnston or Johnson Cummins b. abt 1833 in KY d. 1890 in KY.

I am not sure about the line from there. Some have said it was Daniel Cummins (m. Mary Eliz. ?) b. 1805 KY d. 1886 and then back to Daniel Cummins (m. Polly Dearmon or Dermin) b. 1765 in VA and d. abt 1844 in KY.

Can you help me at all on these lines?

Thank you in advance for your time.

Celia,

In answer to your question "Where was Mable living in September 1968?" -- don't know, but would guess Kimball, SD.

In answer to your question "Was John's wife's name Elizabeth?" -- don't know.

Ok, so Virgil left Florence and went on to marry Mabel. What bothers me is the statement you made "Ken was raised for most of his young life by his maternal grandparents although he remembers going on a train ride to see his father and the family in Kentucky." To my knowledge, the CUMMINS line that I'm attached to in South Dakota has never lived in Kentucky. Have you tried connecting with the CUMMINS lines from Kentucky?

And tell me, what brought you to South Dakota to seek the CUMMINS? Just the names? or you have documentation or family knowledge of roots in SD?
I have been working with the many Cummins lines from Kentucky and none of them have had a Virgil. The only Virgil Scott Cummins I ever found was one who filed for his SS# in South Dakota. Our Virgil moved around some my grandfather knew very little about him. I have a good picture of Virgil with his mother in 1927 in Westfield New York.
I appreciate your looking into your information for me, but I think I shall try some other routes now. Thank you very much.

If you use a tree program like FamilyTree maker or one of the other fine programs out there you will not have trouble as her father is her father in both trees and let the other folks figure it out if they have a problem as I have several double Cummins and Ford on both sides. You will find in you history walk back into the past that family traveled together when it was time to move so that their family lines may cross several times on both side of the family mothers and fathers so just enjoy the knowledge that you have such a close family connection in history

Lee Ferguson gggrandson of Silas Buchanan Cummins and Leonia Janie Ford

Nothing like coming 10 years late to the table. I am the daughter of Sally Cummins Wernsmann and the granddaughter of Virgil Kee and Maybelle Cummins. I do not believe grandpa was married before Maybelle. He died in December of 1953. I have always been told that it was from brain cancer.

The only remaining children of Virgil and Maybelle are Gerald and Richard (Dick).

It's interesting to find threads like this because we were told it was 'none of our business' by grandma.

Re: Arminda Cummins

I have run into this problem a couple of times on my cummins tree as well with intermarraige. I had to delete the person then go back and add again, when I did this and the box pops up for the name and everything there is a place at the top underlined that allows you to pick from someone that is already in your tree, click on that and pick the person you need, click on the add and it will automatically add that person. BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO THIS. It is easier to go to the male overview page and delete the wife I have found. This will leave the children and you can go back and add their mother. If you delete the male side, I have had it delete everything for the parents and offspring and had to redo the entire thing. Make sure when you add the mother back in that you click on the add wife of the children under her and then click on the someone in your tree, ohterwise you will get a wife added that is not shown above the children. This is the only way I know to solve your problem. Hope this helps.

Am looking for information as to parents and orgins of Alexander Cummins dob abt 1815 and a Nancy dob abt 1819, we believe Blakely that were married in Carrol county Indiana May 12 1833. We are not sure of the Nancy our Alexander married but we do know she was born in Indiana and their childrens names were Sarah Jane Cummins dob abt 1834,John Cummins dob abt 1840, Martha Cummins dob abt 1842, Susannah Cummins dob abt 1843, Reuben "RC" Cummins dob 1844 and James Cummins 1845-1874. We have compiled the descendancy but cannot seem to locate anything in Indiana as of yet on lineage farther back. We also know that the family moved into Missouri and Oklahoma and Alex and Nancys trail end in TX. We believe they probably died in TX. Any leads out there

Looking for the family of Cummins in Montreal Quebec.
Josephine Bernadine Benson married Henry Cummins Sept 2, 1904 in the Methodist Church.

They had children:
Henry
Lavinia (Venie)Foster m. Stanley Brennan
Ethel
Dorothy
Victor Arnold m. Francis Anne Cooper

Either Victor or Henry was a Fire Chief in Quebec. The story is a little muttles. I am assuming it is Henry and the story also goes that he added a s to the Cummin name to get the job due to religious connotations.

I cannot find any of the children's births and only the two marriages.

Hoping to either connect with others of this family or someone who can help fill in the missing pieces

Suzy, this isn't Jamie -- this is Lowell Krahn, another descendant of Lowell Blaine Cummins. I would really like to keep in touch with you. Do you have an email address and telephone number? I'm easiest to reach at work. Work phone is 312-752-1165 and my email address is lkrahn@atgf.com. I look forward to hearing from you. It is always GREAT to find Cummins relatives. My grandmother talked about Zeloura with fond memories, as they were first cousins. Thanks so much for the reply!!

I am going to go out on a limb here, (as happens in family trees sometimes) and share what I have. I have been going through some very old pictures and have found a Cummins link in my family. I have several pictures from the early 1900's. I suspect my connection with the Cummins is through the Travis name. I have a photo of a Harold E. Cummins born October 27, 1921 to a Mabel Travis (maiden name). The photo was taken May 27, 1922. I also have a photo of an Emily Elizabeth Cummins taken when she was 3 months 2 weeks and 5 days. It was taken with a postcard camera. I also have a photo taken down by the James River (Virginia?) with several individuals in it. The back of the postcard picture says this:

"This is a bunch of us on a picnic down by the James River. Left to right, me Virgie and Elizabeth, a Mr. Fisher from Baltimore MD, a Mrs. Frazier, Hubby, baby, Mr. and Mrs. Harp and baby. They live just across the street from me at Camp Taylor last summer".

I am not sure if these folks are Cummins or not, but if this rings a bell, please let me know. I suspect there is a connection between Mabel Travis and my great great grandmother Millie A.Travis or perhaps my great grandmother Ruby Travis and that would explain the correspondence. Camp Taylor may be referring to the WW1 military camp in Louisville, KY about that time. I have other photos of men in WW1 uniforms but I am not sure who they are.

I also have a photo of a Ray (or Roy) Curtis whose last name is not mentioned on the back of the photo (I suspect Curtis is his middle name as I have no known connection to any Curtis family). I am not sure if this is related to anything posted here, but it seemed like a good place to start. I will share all I have and email the photos to anyone who thinks they may see a connection to their own family.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Am looking for any information on my grandmother. Who her parents were, etc. She was married to Andrew Almon Jeffers, then married Carl Pomroy (Pomeroy). I know she passed away in the 1960's in Terre Haute, IN. Would appreciate your assistance.
