Hello, I understand you posted this message many years ago but I am studying Drama at Liverpool John Moore's university and we are currently researching into the Cunard family and the Cunard building in Liverpool as we are devising a performance on the building which will be shown in late April to the public. I am very interested in people that visited the building or worked there and would like to share their stories or knowledge of the building as it would be a great help and incredibly interesting.

Look forward to hearing back - or feel free to E-mail me.

Thank you

Sarah Conley

sarah.conley92@hotmail.co.uk

Great work on researching Cunard everyone! I am a Cunard and trying to (finally) pull together my family ancestory. I've reviewed lots of old documents and files that have led me back to the mid-1800's in Nova Scotia. Any help you could provide to get me past this would be helpful. I've gotten as far as:

George E. Cunard
He is my 2nd great grandfather
Birth: 1830 in New Brunswick, Canada
Death: Sept 1870 in New Brunswick, Canada

Married to:
Susan P. Taylor
Birth 14 Jun 1837in New Brunswick, Canada

I am thinking his George's father might be:

Edward Cunard
Birth 1798 in Halifax, N.S.
Death Sept 11, 1851 in Halifax

But not totally sure yet. Ideas?
Thanks,
Derek Cunard

I have started a DNA Project for the Cunard-Conard (and various spellings)lines....especially those from Thones (Tuenes) Kunders of Germantown PA. Descendants on this line started the Cunard Cruise line (Samuel Cunard) and Charles Conrad, the astronaut is also an descendant.

You can view this project's goals at:

www.familytreedna.com/public/Cunard-Conrad

This covers any spelling. A few of the variations are on the site.

If you have questions or are curious, you may email me directly at: aulicino@hevanet.com

Best wishes,
Emily

I am doing research that my Aunt started for the DAR. She mentions a Samuel Cunard a descendent of Thones Kunders that established the first line of ocean steamers which are the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth Lines.
She shows that Samuel married Hannah Kinderdine and his father was Cornelus Conard and his mother was Priscilla Bolton.
Is this the same Samuel Cunard that was related to you?

My e-mail is barrich@qconline.com

Thank you very much for any information.

Several years ago I purchased at auction a desert/tea set of china. It is marked on the back, below a crown: "The Cunard Steamship Company". Then, written in plain copy are the words: "Grosvenor China Stoniers Liverpool". I am interested in selling it at this time. I have a photograph, but I don't think it can attach here. Please let me know if you want to see the photo and I will email it. I would appreciate anyone there who can tell me more about it. --- Glenda

Hi Erik,
Your the first post I've seen on the Cunard's in shipping.
I'm Not really as interested in the Cunards as I am the the Ross or that might have been in business with them. My ggrandmother alway said that one of her grandfathers had been in business with the Cunard that built or owned the QE.
But beyond the names Sir Robert Ross or James Ross or James Sands I am at a stand still.
Most of the Rosses and Sands came to the US in the 1850's but a few remained in the UK.
As far as I know there is no family relation, but any long shot is good.
Pat Frazier
zetataual@prodigy.net

CUNARD family

I have worked over 40 years principally on the descendants of Thones Kunders (1652-1729)
He had a grandson Samuel and a grandson Robert, cousins, who went to Canada as tories
in 1783. I have lists of children of them.
They were born in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
Cunard, Cunard are not Irish names and these
were taken upon arrival in America, 1682. The Irish family you probably ought to search
is KENNARD, KINNARD or similar.
I have a complete list of Sir Samuel, eldest
son of Abraham, son of Samuel, son of Hery
son of Thones Kunders.
Somebody gave you a bum steer, but good luck
to you. Samuel, by the way, b 1787, was the
founder of the Lines--which they sold in 1870
and is far to young to have been your ancestor, and he was the oldest of 8 sons,
2 daughters. Have 35,000 desc. of Kunders in
my files. These are mostly Quakers, no Catholics except in later days thru the spouse. Originally CUN'erd, some have taken
ka-NARD' believing that more elegant...EC
Cunard

after 40 years of research on the Kunders/
Conard/Cunard family, I can tell you with some
certainty that your family did NOT have any
kinship with the Cunard steamship folks. And
none of our folks were Catholic. I might suggest
you look at Cunardi or Conardi or some Latin
form, but from here it looks like we have weeded
out Thones Kunders as an ancestor.
