They are in the 1900 census. It was under John Ames with John Cuneo under it in brackets. If you look at the actual census page, the handwritten name could be very easily mistaken for Ames but knowing it is Cuneo makes it easy to see
that it is actually written as Cuneo and not Ames.
I cannot find passenger info to New Orleans; I guess records were destroyed in one of the earlier floods or break in the levee.
