My branch of the Cupp family was with George Washingtons army them one Cupp went to Tenessee and one to a northern state according to my Grandfather. He said that the family name Cupp came from George Washington's army secretary who was recording names of new soldiers that were Polish mercenaries pais to be on the British side; but tey changed sides to be on the Americans side. As their names were recor3ded the Polish spelling was too complicated so just the name Cupp was recorded. Thanks: Charles Cupp
