My grandfather and his siblings lived in Georgia. My grandfather name is Thomas Albert Cureton, he has passed away now in 1989. I am looking for any information. My grandfather’s parents had passed away before he was grown and his siblings raised him in Georgia. I don’t have too much information about the siblings because of different religions between the families, they kind of grew apart. One half, my grandparents were Jehovah Witness in Chicago, IL. and my grandfather’s siblings went into Muslim religion. I know that my grandfather brother name was J E Cureton or James Cureton not sure but my grandfather called him J E., most of the Muslim side of the family changed their names. History I know is that my grandfather met my grandmother Mary Prince – Henderson in Tennessee moved to Chicago, IL had 3 three children Thomas Jr., Monroe-passed away 1970, Juanita. My mother is Juanita Cureton and she spoke about visiting Cinn. Ohio with my grandparents and her and Ramona (my mother's cousin,Doris/Azzizah daughter)

It would be really grateful if you would reply if any of this information sounds familiar or if you have more information regarding the Cureton origin.
I have heard and read about the same information you have about the Cureton family. My grandfather and his siblings lived in Georgia. My grandfather name is Thomas Albert Cureton, he has passed away now in 1989. I am looking for any information. My grandfather’s parents had passed away before he was grown and his siblings raised him in Georgia. We all have to have some relation somewhere. My grandmother Mary Prince-Henderson who later became a Cureton was from South Carolina. Any information is grateful please email me cureton650@comcast.net not sure how long my subscription will run.

Thanks alot to all who reply.

Re: Charity (Sarah) West Cureton 1831

This John Cureton 1797-1853 only died in Missouri, buried West Family Land, Barry County, Missouri. I show him born in Georgia. He spent much time in Arkansas with his cousin William Cureton who was born Sept 14, 1798 in Pendleton, Anderson, South Carolina. William's father is Thomas Cureton born 1769 in Sparta, Hancock, Georgia. William's mother is Mary Hawkins born about 1769 in Little Peedee, South Carolina. Thomas and Mary were married about 1795 in Sparta, Hancock, Georgia.

Some report that Thomas and Mary are the parents of your John but I have never been able to prove this neither has the research of my very active Cureton cousin. Your John had to be part of my Cureton line as a John acquired land in Arkansas at the same time that my Thomas did in 1830 and 1839 and my William was in Crawford County Arkansas by 1831. Arkansas archives report a John Cureton served as judge of peace in Washington County 1836-1838.

The only family that I show for your John Cureton is his wife Sarah West and daughter Mary Jane born March 10, 1833 in Fayetteville, Washington, Arkansas.

The father of my Thomas Cureton is Richard Cureton born June 10, 1737 in Duck Creek, Kent, Delaware. Thomas' mother is Martha Anderson born about 1743 Sparta, Hancock, Georgia. Richard and Martha had twelve children one whom was John Cureton born about 1768 in Sparta, Hancock, Georgia and married to Mary Landers about 1794 in Sparta.

After Georgia and South Carolin many of the Cureton family lived in Tennessee. Thomas' brother Robert is buried in Cocke County, Tennessee. My Thomas moved to Arkansas from Tennessee.

I am still trying to prove where my Thomas Cureton died as it was not in Arkansas where his son William and grandchildren all lived in Ozark, Arkansas. Some have reported that Thomas is buried in Texas, Missouri as is his brother Richard Cureton and their sisters Hannah, Jean, Rebecca and Winnifred.

I have much Cureton family information and a few stories.

I do not have her parents' names, although the names of Thomas and Elizabeth Cureton appear on the marriage entry (they could be siblings).

She died between 1825 and 1829.
Hey Cuz!!! It is good to hear from you. There is not much info out there, Let me tell you what I know,. My gf was Jim and his daughter, Violet was my mom. We used to go to Clarence's house when I was small. Slarence and Jim were brothers, father was Hillary. Hillary's father was James Franklin Cureington. He and 2 brothers, Aaron and Frank came to Louisiana from Bullock/Pike county, Alabama in the 1860-70s. They each spelled their last name differently. In Franklin parish, there are Currington's and Curington's and Cureingtons all within 1 mile of each other, with no knowledge that they are cousins!! Email me privately--I live in Shreveport, Sharron

Mary: I have read with interest your messages on this board concerning the cureton family from missouri. I am decended from the JOHN CURETON, whose children went to California, when he died in 1853. I would like to share my information with you and compare your notes and mine. Thanks, for all that you contribute to the cureton genealogy.

Sue

Was your father James R. Cureton, Solomon's 5th child? Born about 1903? He is shown on the 1910 census as being 7 years old. I think the migration may have been from Pulaski County Georgia > Henry County Alabama> Arkansas. My research is on Thomas Dalton Cureton, son of Solomon Pulaski Cureton and Alice Lenora Alman. Thomas was 2 years older than James. Please e-mail me at WdnThings@aol.com. We might want to compare notes on this line. I show James as being born October 8, 1914, died December, 1968, do not have a day. Thomas was born January 12, 1901, died October 27, 1992.Have more info, look forward to hearing from you.

Good news to hear of another Cureton/Curington researcher!

Several Cureton men were given land grants because of Revolutionary War service...William Cureton Sr., William Cureton Jr., Richard Cureton & perhaps one other. I don't have my notes in front of me, but I believe that William Sr. & Richard are listed in early tax lists in Washington & Wilkes Counties, Georgia before that area became Hancock County.

I am very much interested in your research. I knew there were Curetons in the Atlanta area, but do not know much about them. I thought perhaps the Curetons from the Atlanta area were the ones who later moved into Coweta County. I assumed it was the same line. My ggg-grandfather was in Talbot County by 1839. Other Curetons were in Jones, Crawford, Bibb, Muskogee, & Upson counties in that time period.

My name is James Cureton and I am looking for information on any relatives (parents and siblings, NOT children) of John Cureton and Frances Thweatt. I have TONS of sourced information on his children BUT I don't have any sourced information on his parents. Some listings show:

1) Thomas Curiton as his father [1704] Quit rent records in virginia...but no connection showing him the father (other than some people listing him...he gave birth to a john in 1660

2) Richard Cureton who married Margaret Cureton. This is in the english record, but it never connects this as the father of john cureton. he gives birth to a son John in 1659. A richard and margarett did come to america from england in 1685 though and this would make sense.

Does anyone have any sourced information on here (i.e. official registers or similar)??????

James Cureton

Hello, my name is Doan Cureington Moran and I just started my family tree search. I live in Alexandria, LA but all of my family is from Franklin Parish. My father is Calvin Cureington and his father was Clarence Cureington. I have learned that his father, James F. spelled his name with two r's as Currington (some of Clarence's brother's did as well). From what I can tell, his father was John Cureton who married Martha Ann Emerson. That is as far as the search would take me on that side of my father's family until I saw your posting. How can I help you and can we work together? Please feel free to contact me at the above email or call me anytime at 318-640-1955. Do you have more info on the Cureton line after that?
