hello Kelsey
This is very much appreciated !

The boy was born about 1905 to 1907. I believe the parents divorced quite quickly, we have a portrait of the boy and his mother alone, when he is about a year old. Family oral history has it that he may have been adopted by a couple named Brailey, and that his name from that point was Allan Brailey. He is supposed to have lived in North Dakota and Minnesota.

My personal email is westwardfrontier@yahoo.com

cheers !

Hi Scott:
Don't forget to check out the graves of Sylvia's parents at the Glouster Cemetery (Craddock and Hannah Butler). Then there were her half sister and husband, Hannah and William Morris. And her sister, Charlotte Joseph. I am sure there are others too. There are other Hopes relatives at the Maplewood Cemetery. I have lots of information about her mothers family. If you want to contact me for more information my email address is: sylvia@scspdx.com
Regards
sylvia

Hi Polly - I am Scott Curfman, your Uncle Harrison's third child. I have fond memories of Uncle Kenny and Aunt Billie. My brother, Jim is deceased and my sister Ellen is living in Mom and Dad's house in Mt. Vernon. We're headed to Glouster on Weds. to visit family historic sites and I found your posting as I was doing some pre-trip "homework." Would love to hear from you, my email is scottcurfman@sbcglobal.net

Are you Steve's sister? By the way, Sylvia's maiden name was Butler, not Baker. Her Family owned and operated a couple Hotels in Glouster. Her mother, Hannah Fox Butler, ran the hotels while her Father, Craddock Butler, was a self taught engineer and died in a steam explosion at the Trimble brick factory. Trying to remember all the connections is a strain on the brain! Fortunately, Your Aunt Beth and Uncle Harrison left us quite a bit of info on the Family.

Hope to hear from you - Scott

Yes, I have some information on Charles death. It is probably from the Columbus Dispatch.

CURFMAN - Charles Vinton, 51 Mayfair Blvd. Survived by wife, Silvia Mae; 5 sons, Dwight, Lester, Harrison, Loyal and Kenneth; 3 daughters, Mrs. Leona Smart, Mrs. Authorene Orr, Ruthana Wright; 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Service will be held Saturday, 2 pm. Schoedinger State-st Chapel, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Friday. Interment, Sunset.
I typed it as written. It is really Sylvia.
I am related through Sylvia Butler. She was my Great Grandmothers half sister. And her mother was my great great grandmother. And I suspect my grandmother was named for her (and I was named for my grandmother).
If you want any more information, please email me directly @
sylvia@scspdx.com
I do have more data about the kids, and possibly about the Butlers, since I know someone else who was researching them.
Thanks
Sylvia

Hello,
I am trying to find death record of Charles Vinton Curfman,
husband of Sylvia Butler, daughter of Cradick (Caradoc-Welsh)Butler. Cradick is an older brother of my grandfather, Messach Butler. Cradick and Messach(named after his father) were of a large family. The three oldest were born in Wales. Cradick was the eldest and Messach was the youngest, born in Mercer county,PA. There are Butler descendents in western PA. and all over Ohio.
I gather you are connected by the Curfman family. Do you have any info on C.V. Curfman's death? I have Sylvia's death record.

My grandmother had an older sister in North Dakota. She married a William Curfman, but the marriage was very shortlived. This was in 1905. They also had a son in that year, and we have a portrait taken a year or so later, of her, Pearl J. Sidney Merry, with the little boy.
I am hoping to find out what happened to her son. Perhaps he was taken back by the Curfman family.
If someone has any information about this William Curfman, married on 12 November 1905, in Mandan, I would welcome hearing from them.

My personal email is frontierchaserle@yahoo.com
cheers !

Hi Margaret,

All I have is this clue:

1790 Federal Census, Maryland, Baltimore Co., Mine Run Hundred, p. 24
Daniel Coufman, 2 males over 16, 7 males under 16, 1 female
Mine Run Hundred is that part of Baltimore Co just over the Pennsylvania state line, through which the road ran south from York Co PA to Baltimore MD.

Daniel seems to have been in the process of selling some Baltimore Co land when he died, according to his will.

If you are a descendant of Daniel, would love to compare notes.

I don't know much about the MD land system, except that there was a constant round of re-surveys and boundary disputes. Daniel Curfman is believed to have been born and raised in nearby York Co PA, but I've seen no proof & probably never will. I can place him in Baltimore Co only between 1790-1793. He was probably there a few years earlier, as the last tax record for Daniel Curfman in York Co is 1783. In 1794 his child was baptized in Frederick. He died there about March 1805, probably in his early 60s. The estate settlement case you cite is not this Daniel, but his son Daniel Jr. His son George died just before Daniel Sr, and may have owned land in BA Co. From the Will it is not clear.

"Item it is my will and I order that if any of my children should die without lawful issue his or her share shall be equally divided among the survivors and their heirs -- and as I have sold a tract of land lying in Baltimore County to Christopher and Daniel Walker I do hereby empower and authorize my sons Daniel and Henry or either of them to convey the same according to contract and I also authorize them to convey a tract of land sold by my son George by Good Deeds --."

There must be a plat map somewhere that would answer your questions. Wishing you the best.....
I am descended from Daniel Curfman who died in 1805. He was probably born in Pennsylvania. I believe Barbara was his second wife. Do you have a source for her maiden name? I have not been able to locate their marriage record, nor one for his first wife, Catherine.

No. I descend from George, son of Daniel. George died shortly before his father. His death record says his mother was Catherine. George was 40 when he died. Barbara, the widow of Daniel, was still having babies. Regularly. That's a bit of a stretch.

I realize that this Daniel is regarded as, and probably is, the son of the immigrant Daniel, but I have seen nothing definitive. Also, I don't know where people have found that Barbara's maiden name was Shall. Any ideas?

Jan,

George's parents were McClelland Curfman(1862-1921) and Nora Matilda Kilbury(1872-1964). If you need a complete database all the way back, e-mail me. Sorry it took awhile to respond...I'm not a big rootsweb fan, so I don't check the message boards as often as I should. Anyone else thats reading this note my e-mail address change(HistoryHunter@alltel.net).

Dan
